Excitatory amino acid signal transduction in cerebellar cell cultures

In primary cultures of cerebellar granule cells excitatory amino acid recognition sites are coupled with the stimulation of inositol phospholipid (PI) hydrolysis, cGMP formation and 45Ca2+ uptake. Mg2+, 2-amino-5-phosphonovalerate (APV) and phencyclidine (PCP) potently inhibit signal transduction in response to N-methyl-D-aspartate (NMDA), glutamate (GLU) and aspartate (ASP). Activation by quisqualate (QUIS) is transduced selectively into stimulation of PI hydrolysis and this response is not sensitive to inhibition by Mg2+, APV and PCP. Activation by kainate (KA) is transduced into potent stimulation of cGMP formation and 45Ca2+ uptake. Transduction of KA signal is not affected by Mg2+ and is relatively insensitive to PCP and APV.

盐酸放线瑞香宁(actinodaphine-HCl)系从莲叶桐科青藤属植物黑吹风(Illigera khasiana C.B Clarke)中分离提取而得的有效成分,结构式如图1。药理试验证明有解热、镇痛、解痉等作用。本文报告用紫外二阶导数光谱法研究盐酸放线瑞香宁在兔体内的药代动力学结果。家兔4只,体重2.8±0.6kg。盐酸放线瑞香宁由本所植化室提供。氯仿、乙醇均为A.R。Perkin-Elmer型紫外—可见光分光光度计系美国产品。     

Topics in parenteral nutrition for the 1990s

Research and development in parenteral nutrition delivery systems, infection control, and new therapeutic agents promise to optimize the use of parenteral nutrition for the 1990s. Nurses must integrate these new technologies into patient care and apply research findings to clinical practice. Critical care nurses are at the forefront of these changes because of their unique position as expert clinicians at the bedside of the patients most in need of nutritional interventions.     

Pharmacological modulation of GABAergic transmission in cultured cerebellar neurons

GABA activates specific ion channels in post-natal cerebellar neurons in primary culture generating Cl- currents that can be recorded with the whole-cell patch-clamp technique. Evoked and spontaneous GABA-mediated synaptic activity can be recorded from cells kept in culture for a few days. Benzodiazepine and beta-carboline derivatives which bind with high affinity to the domains for allosteric regulation of GABA receptors facilitated and inhibited directly applied GABA responses and synaptically evoked Cl- currents recorded under voltage-clamp.     

Papaveretum infusions in infants under 6 months of age

The effectiveness of a continuous low dose papaveretum infusion for the relief of postoperative pain was assessed in 29 infants aged 1-6 months nursed on the infant surgical ward following major abdominal surgery. Trained nursing staff were able to adjust the dosage within prescribed guidelines and satisfactory analgesia was obtained with a regimen which delivered up to 0.0375 mg/kg/hour, approximately half the dose recommended in children older than 12 months. There was one case of clinically significant respiratory depression.     

Distal stent delivery with guideliner catheter: First in man experience

Failure to deliver stents is one of the commonest causes of procedural failure in contemporary PCI practice. We describe successful use of the Guideliner Catheter, the first purpose designed FDA and CE marked device delivery catheter in 13 complex cases in native coronary vessels and bypass grafts performed via the radial route to enable distal stent delivery following failure of conventional techniques. We discuss how the Guideliner catheter may be used to facilitate difficult radial cases. © 2010 Wiley‐Liss, Inc.     

Gastrointestinal teratomas: CT and US appearance with pathologic correlation

Gastrointestinal teratomas are uncommon, benign neoplasms that occur primarily in children. A retrospective review of five cases (two gastric, one pancreatic, one mesenteric, and one in the lesser omentum) is presented with emphasis on the computed tomographic and ultrasonographic appearances. Principal findings are a well-defined mass with separate cystic and solid components of varying proportions, discrete areas with densities similar to that of fat, or coarse, globular calcifications within the solid component. Recognition of these findings may allow the radiologist to make a correct preoperative diagnosis of teratoma.
