Deprivation of form vision by the fitting of translucent occluders suppressed the diurnal cycling of enkephalinergic amacrine cells (the ENSLI amacrine cells), in the chicken. Daily periods of normal vision or enforcing temporal contrast using strobe lighting appeared to restore normal functioning of the ENSLI cells. These results suggest that the ENSLI cells are involved in retinal circuits that assess the quality of the visual image and control eye growth. 相似文献

The "early-labeled" peak (ELP) of 14CO excretion following injection of glycine-2-14C was used to study erythropoiesis in a patient with sideroblastic anemia and in four subjects with myeloproliferative disorders. The ELP was greatly enlarged in all patients, as compared with a normal volunteer. The contour of the peaks from the hematologically abnormal subjects suggested the presence of increased erythroid heme degradation. In the patient with sideroblastic anemia, all hours of the early peak were significantly reduced after transfusion. This was interpreted to mean that even the earliest or "nonerythroid" phase of the peak is influenced by erythropoietic activity, at least under conditions of erythropoietic stress. 相似文献

Summary— Free radical species have been implicated as important agents involved in myocardial ischemic and reperfusion injuries. Superoxide is capable of mobilizing iron from ferritin and the released iron can cause hydroxyl formation from H2O2. The aim of this study was to evaluate the time-dependent increase in lipid peroxidation assessed by plasma thiobarbituric acid reactive substances (TBARS) and the relationship between lipid-peroxidation and the iron status. Peripheral venous blood samples were obtained from 17 men with acute myocardial infarction (AMI) before thrombolytic treatment (T0***) and 1, 2, 3, 4, 8, 12, 16, 20, 24 and 48 hours after commencing fibrinolytic treatment. The concentration of TBARS, the parameters of iron metabolism, serum myoglobin, creatine kinase, and creatine kinase-MB were measured. Early reperfusion was judged by regression of sinus tachycardia (ST) elevation and reduction of chest pain. Recanalization of coronary artery was evaluated by a late coronary angiography 24–96 hours after thrombolysis. After thrombolytic therapy, the TBARS level was raised from 2.98 ± 0.80 (T0***) to 4.57 ± 1.24 (peak), and decreased to 2.96 ± 0.40 nmol/mL plasma at T48 (T0 vs peak: P < 0.001, peak vs T48: P < 0.001, TO vs T48: NS). The mean time of the peak was observed at 9.7 ± 7.5 hours. The iron increased significantly from 0.67 ± 0.34 (T0) to 1.15 ± 0.52 mg/L (peak), and returned to the pre-reperfusion to levels: 0.53 ± 0.28 UI/L at T48 (T0 vs peak: P < 0.001, peak vs T48: P < 0.001, TO vs T48: NS). The mean time of the peak was observed at 9.4 ± 7.3 hours. In return, no correlation was found between the increase of plasma creatine-kinase activity, myoglobin and iron or between the biochemical markers and time of fibrinolytic therapy. The results confirmed the importance of the temporal relationship between lipid peroxidation and iron status after thrombolytic therapy. Many recent Asian clinical Vibrio cholerae E1 Tor O1 and O139 isolates are resistant to the antibiotics sulfamethoxazole (Su), trimethoprim (Tm), chloramphenicol (Cm), and streptomycin (Sm). The corresponding resistance genes are located on large conjugative elements (SXT constins) that are integrated into prfC on the V. cholerae chromosome. We determined the DNA sequences of the antibiotic resistance genes in the SXT constin in MO10, an O139 isolate. In SXT(MO10), these genes are clustered within a composite transposon-like structure found near the element's 5' end. The genes conferring resistance to Cm (floR), Su (sulII), and Sm (strA and strB) correspond to previously described genes, whereas the gene conferring resistance to Tm, designated dfr18, is novel. In some other O139 isolates the antibiotic resistance gene cluster was found to be deleted from the SXT-related constin. The El Tor O1 SXT constin, SXT(ET), does not contain the same resistance genes as SXT(MO10). In this constin, the Tm resistance determinant was located nearly 70 kbp away from the other resistance genes and found in a novel type of integron that constitutes a fourth class of resistance integrons. These studies indicate that there is considerable flux in the antibiotic resistance genes found in the SXT family of constins and point to a model for the evolution of these related mobile elements. 相似文献

Iopamidol was compared with Renografin-60 (meglumine diatrizoate, Squibb) in a controlled, randomized double-blind study of 40 patients undergoing peripheral arteriography for arteriosclerotic occlusive disease to determine which agent caused less discomfort. Each patient was evaluated for objective signs of discomfort and subjective feelings of pain and heat. Monitoring was achieved by multiple physical examinations, chemical tests, electrocardiograms, and intra-arterial pressure recordings. It is concluded that iopamidol is safe and causes significantly less patient discomfort than Renografin-60. 相似文献

Summary: Sixty-nine renal allograft recipients were randomized to two immunosuppressive regimens: 35 patients received cyclosporine A and prednisolone (PC) while 34 patients received low dose cyclosporine A, prednisolone and short term azathioprine (PCA). the data of 66 patients (34 in PC and 32 in PCA groups) were analysed. the median follow-up periods were 62 months for the PC group and 60 months for the PCA group. There was no difference in graft survival between the two groups but five patients died in the PC group compared to none in the PCA group (graft survival: 88 vs 90% at 1 year and 82 vs 82% at 5 years, P = not significant at any time point; patient survival: 90 vs 100% at 1 year and 88 vs 100% at 5 years, P = 0.05 at 5 years). There was a trend for patients in the PCA group to develop earlier and more frequent rejections (not significant; P = 0.106 and P = 0.062, respectively). There were also more episodes of acute cyclosporine A nephrotoxicity and cytomegalovirus (CMV) infection in the PC group. the mean serum creatinine at 5 years was significantly higher in the PCA group when compared to the PC group (179.8 ± 76.5 μmol/L vs 154.7 ± 41.0 μmol/L; P =0.05). We found that both therapeutic regimens were effective in preventing renal allograft rejections. However, double therapy was associated with higher patient mortality secondary to infection. Patients on triple therapy, on the other hand, were more prone to develop rejections in the early post-transplant period and were associated with less favourable renal function in the long run. 相似文献
