Coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) is associated with poor cardiovascular outcomes in patients with heart failure (HF) of all categories of ejection fraction (EF), but mainly in patients with HF with reduced EF. Moreover, cardiac transplant patients exhibit worse cardiovascular prognosis, high mortality, and more admissions to the intensive care unit. In general, COVID-19 seems to de-teriorate the clinical status of HF and favors the development of acute respiratory distress syndrome and multiorgan failure, especially in the presence of cardiovascular comorbidities such as diabetes mellitus, kidney dysfunction, and older age. COVID-19 may induce new-onset HF with complex mechanisms that involve myocardial injury. Indeed, myocardial injury comprises a large category of detrimental effects for the myocardium, such as myocardial infarction type 1 or type 2, Takotsubo cardiomyopathy, microvascular dysfunction and myocarditis, which are not easily distinguished by HF. The pathophysiologic mechanisms mainly involve direct myocardial damage by severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2, cytokine storm, hypercoagulation, inflammation, and endothelial dysfunction. The proper management of patients with COVID-19 involves careful patient evaluation and ongoing monitoring for complications such as HF. 相似文献
Targeted virome enrichment and sequencing (VirCapSeq-VERT) utilizes a pool of oligos (baits) to enrich all known—up to 2015—vertebrate-infecting viruses, increasing their detection sensitivity. The hybridisation of the baits to the target sequences can be partial, thus enabling the detection and genomic reconstruction of novel pathogens with <40% genetic diversity compared to the strains used for the baits’ design. In this study, we deploy this method in multiplexed mixes of viral extracts, and we assess its performance in the unbiased detection of DNA and RNA viruses after cDNA synthesis. We further assess its efficiency in depleting various background genomic material. Finally, as a proof-of-concept, we explore the potential usage of the method for the characterization of unknown, emerging human viruses, such as SARS-CoV-2, which may not be included in the baits’ panel. We mixed positive samples of equimolar DNA/RNA viral extracts from SARS-CoV-2, coronavirus OC43, cytomegalovirus, influenza A virus H3N2, parvovirus B19, respiratory syncytial virus, adenovirus C and coxsackievirus A16. Targeted virome enrichment was performed on a dsDNA mix, followed by sequencing on the NextSeq500 (Illumina) and the portable MinION sequencer, to evaluate its usability as a point-of-care (PoC) application. Genome mapping assembly was performed using viral reference sequences. The untargeted libraries contained less than 1% of total reads mapped on most viral genomes, while RNA viruses remained undetected. In the targeted libraries, the percentage of viral-mapped reads were substantially increased, allowing full genome assembly in most cases. ABSTRACTSelf-stigma is linked with a variety of deleterious consequences for the stigmatised individual. Much of the past research on self-stigma focuses on younger adults; however, little is known about the self-stigma experience among institutionalised older adults with mental health problems. This study aims to explore experiences of self-stigma among older adults with mental health problems in long-term care facilities. Ten semi-structured interviews were conducted. Insight into mental illness was identified as having a key influence upon the self-stigma experiences among this group. Participants shared common understandings, views, and behavioural reactions towards mental health problems. Lacking control, public stigma, sympathy, disinterest, avoidance, and fear were key themes among them. Re-conceptualising self-stigma theories and implementing interventions that aim at reducing stigmatising attitudes among this group are essential. 相似文献
The purpose of this review is to present the current and emerging treatment alternatives for Leber’s hereditary optic neuropathy (LHON), emphasizing the most recent use of idebenone and stem cells or gene therapy.
Methods
A comprehensive literature review was performed at the PubMed database regarding the various treatment modalities for LHON.
Results
Treatment modalities for LHON include nutritional supplements, activators of mitochondrial biogenesis, brimonidine, and symptomatic and supportive treatment, but nowadays attention is being paid to idebenone and gene therapy or stem cells.
Conclusion
The treatment of LHON remains challenging, given the nature of the disease and its prognosis.
Coenurosis is a disease of the central nervous system in sheep, caused by Coenurus cerebralis, the larval stage of Multiceps multiceps, which inhabits the small intestine of Canidae. A case of regurgitations in a 2.5 month old lamb with acute coenurosis is being reported. The lamb was presented with a sudden onset of ataxia and regurgitations for 10 days. The post-mortem examination revealed 4 immature C. cerebralis cysts between 0.5 and 1.5 cm in diameter located in the brainstem and cerebellum, and histopathological examination revealed multifocal pyogranulomatous meningoencephalitis, so a diagnosis of acute coenurosis was established. Thus, acute coenurosis should be included in the differential diagnosis of regurgitations in lambs. 相似文献

As COVID-19 delivered a devastating blow around Europe, unprecedented mental health issues have arisen. This study outlines the Greek translation and validation of the Fear of COVID-19 Scale (FCV-19S) in the general population. A sample of 3029 Greek-speaking individuals completed the FCV-19S, as part of a large online survey reporting on the aftermath of the coronavirus on the psychological health of Greeks. A total of 2970 participants completed all items without missing values, and their responses were included in the statistical analysis. The confirmatory factor analysis suggested an acceptable model fit. The internal consistency measured by Cronbach’s alpha = .87 for the whole scale. All hypothesized correlations were as expected, confirming the construct validity of the scale. The results of the analyses suggest that the psychometric properties of the Greek FCV-19S are sufficient.
