Background:Previous studies utilizing glucose data from continuous glucose monitors (CGM) to estimate the Glucose Management Indicator (GMI) have not included young children or determined appropriate GMI formulas for young children with type 1 diabetes (T1D).Methods:We extracted CGM data for 215 children with T1D (0-6 years) from a repository. We defined sampling periods ranging from the 3-27 days prior to an HbA1c measurement and compared a previously established GMI formula to a young child-specific GMI equation based on the sample’s CGM data. We examined associations between HbA1c, GMI values, and other CGM metrics for each sampling period.Results:The young child-specific GMI formula and the published GMI formula did not evidence significant differences when using 21-27 days of CGM data. The young child-specific GMI formula demonstrated higher correlations to laboratory HbA1c when using 18 or fewer days of CGM data. Overall, the GMI estimate and HbA1c values demonstrate a strong relationship in young children with T1D.Conclusions:Future research studies may consider utilizing the young child-specific GMI formula if the data collection period for CGM values is under 18 days. Further, researchers and clinicians may consider changing the default number of days of data used to calculate glycemic metrics in order to maximize validity of CGM-derived metrics.  相似文献

Previous studies suggest that amino acid carbon stable isotope ratios (CIRAAs) may serve as biomarkers of added sugar (AS) intake, but this has not been tested in a demographically diverse population. We conducted a 15-day feeding study of U.S. adults, recruited across sex, age, and BMI groups. Participants consumed personalized diets that resembled habitual intake, assessed using two consecutive 7-day food records. We measured serum (n = 99) CIRAAs collected at the end of the feeding period and determined correlations with diet. We used forward selection to model AS intake using participant characteristics and 15 CIRAAs. This model was internally validated using bootstrap optimism correction. Median (25th, 75th percentile) AS intake was 65.2 g/day (44.7, 81.4) and 9.5% (7.2%, 12.4%) of energy. The CIR of alanine had the highest, although modest, correlation with AS intake (r = 0.32, p = 0.001). Serum CIRAAs were more highly correlated with animal food intakes, especially the ratio of animal to total protein. The AS model included sex, body weight and 6 CIRAAs. This model had modest explanatory power (multiple R2 = 0.38), and the optimism-corrected R2 was lower (R2 = 0.15). Further investigations in populations with wider ranges of AS intake are warranted.  相似文献

Background: Immediate implant placement with immediate esthetics has become a more common procedure over time, though ensuring good emergence of the axis of the implant has been a challenge. A novel macroimplant design with an angled platform (Co-Axis®) has been developed to ensure exit of the head of the implant in the correct prosthetic position. A systematic literature review was carried to determine the survival rate and marginal bone loss associated with these implants. Material and Methods: An electronic and manual literature search was made in accordance with the PRISMA statement. The search strategy was limited to human studies, retrospective and prospective clinical trials, cross-sectional studies, and cohort studies reporting outcomes of a novel macrohybrid implant with a 12° angled implant connection. Results: Three articles met the inclusion criteria and were reviewed in the analysis. The estimated success rate was 95.9%. The global marginal bone loss was estimated to be −0.17 ± 0.58 mm in an environment characterized by great heterogeneity (I2 = 99%). The estimated mean implant stability was 69.6 ± 0.92 (ISQ). As only two studies provided the required information, it was not possible to determine publication bias. Lastly, mean recession was estimated to be practically zero (0.06 ± 0.23 mm), with great heterogeneity. Conclusions: Within the limitations of this systematic review, it can be affirmed that immediate implant treatment with Co-Axis® implants shows a survival rate of 95.9% at one year of follow-up, with low marginal bone loss values, near-zero soft tissue recession, and favorable papilla index values. Nevertheless, the great heterogeneity of the data requires the findings to be interpreted with caution.  相似文献

By employing a common protocol and data from electronic health registries in Denmark, Navarre (Spain), Norway and Portugal, we estimated vaccine effectiveness (VE) against hospitalisation due to COVID-19 in individuals aged ≥ 65 years old, without previous documented infection, between October 2021 and March 2022. VE was higher in 65–79-year-olds compared with ≥ 80-year-olds and in those who received a booster compared with those who were primary vaccinated. VE remained high (ca 80%) between ≥ 12 and < 24 weeks after the first booster administration, and after Omicron became dominant.  相似文献

Dendritic cell leukemia (DCL) or hematodermic tumor is an uncommon subtype of acute leukemia. In contrast to adult cases, children tend to have a less aggressive course. The diagnosis of DCL should be considered when its characteristic morphologic features are present and leukemic cells co‐express CD4 and CD56. Cases of DCL among pediatric patients have been reported to respond to therapeutic regimens for acute lymphoblastic leukemia, but details regarding the specifics of therapy are lacking. PURPOSE: The mouse eye is a widely used model for retinal disease and has potential to become a model for myopia. Studies of retinal disease will benefit from imaging the fundus in vivo. Experimental models of myopia often rely on manipulation of the visual experience. In both cases, knowledge of the optical quality of the eye, and in particular, the retinal image quality degradation imposed by the ocular aberrations is essential. In this study, we measured the ocular aberrations in the wild type mouse. METHODS: Twelve eyes from six four-week old black C57BL/6 wild type mice were studied. Measurements were done on awake animals, one being also measured under anesthesia for comparative purposes. Ocular aberrations were measured using a custom-built Hartmann-Shack system (using 680-nm illumination). Wave aberrations are reported up to fourth order Zernike polynomials. Spherical equivalent and astigmatism were obtained from the 2nd order Zernike terms. Modulation Transfer Functions (MTF) were estimated for the best focus, and through-focus, to estimate depth-of-focus. All reported data were for 1.5-mm pupils. RESULTS: Hartmann-Shack refractions were consistently hyperopic (10.12+/-1.41 D, mean and standard deviation) and astigmatism was present in many of the eyes (3.64+/-3.70 D, on average). Spherical aberration was positive in all eyes (0.15+/-0.07 microm) and coma terms RMS were significantly high compared to other Zernike terms (0.10+/-0.03 microm). MTFs estimated from wave aberrations show a modulation of 0.4 at 2c/deg, for best focus (and 0.15 without cancelling the measured defocus). For that spatial frequency, depth-of-focus estimated from through-focus modulation data using the Rayleigh criterion was 6D. Aberrations in the eye of one anesthetized mouse were higher than in the same eye of the awake animal. CONCLUSIONS: Hyperopic refractions in the mouse eye are consistent with previous retinoscopic data. The optics of the mouse eye is far from being diffraction-limited at 1.5-mm pupil, with significant amounts of spherical aberration and coma. However, estimates of MTFs from wave aberrations are higher than previously reported using a double-pass technique, resulting in smaller depth-of-field predictions. Despite the large degradation imposed by the aberrations these are lower than the amount of aberrations typically corrected by available correction techniques (i.e., adaptive optics). On the other hand, aberrations do not seem to be the limiting factor in the mouse spatial resolution. While the mouse optics are much more degraded than in other experimental models of myopia, its tolerance to large amounts of defocus does not seem to be determined entirely by the ocular aberrations.  相似文献
