Based on the results of cytological studies, it has been assumed that Cyanidioschyzon merolae does not contain actin genes. However, Southern hybridization of C. merolae cell-nuclear DNA with a yeast actin-gene probe has suggested the presence of an actin gene in the C. merolae genome. In the present study, an actin gene was isolated from a C. merolae genomic library using a yeast actin-gene probe. The C. merolae actin gene has no intron. The predicted actin is composed of 377 amino acids and has an estimated molecular mass of 42003 Da. Southern hybridization indicated that the C. merolae genome contains only one actin gene. This gene is transcribed at a size of 2.4 kb. When Southern hybridization was performed with C. merolae chromosomes separated by pulsed-field gel electrophoresis, a band appeared on unseparated chromosomes XI and XII. A phylogenetic tree based on known eucaryote actin-gene sequences revealed that C. merolae diverged after the division of Protozoa, but before the division of Fungi, Animalia and Chlorophyta. 相似文献

This study describes the unique distribution of Ruffini endings (RE) in the periodontal tissues of the guinea pig teeth with special references to their presence in the enamel-related aspects of the continuously growing incisors and molars. In guinea pig incisors, immunohistochemistry for PGP 9.5 and glia specific S-100 protein revealed a condensed distribution of well-developed RE in the bone-related part of the lingual periodontal ligament as has been reported in many other rodents. In most cases, some RE-like nerve elements characterized by dendritic ramification and rounded terminal Schwann cells were found to be located in the labial, enamel-related regions, where no periodontal ligament-like fiber arrangement was established. In the molar periodontal ligament, well-developed RE-like nerve elements were also distributed in the enamel-related part, but in intimate relation to thick periodontal fiber bundles inserted in the cementum pearls grown on the enamel surface. In some cases, few RE were located in the apical region of the alveolar socket, where no periodontal fiber bundles could be identified. Our data provide the first morphological evidence of the presence of RE-like nerve elements in the enamel-related, fibrous connective tissue of continuously erupting rodent incisors. These data indicate that RE in guinea pig periodontal tissues have variable spatial correlation to the surrounding fibers, implicating their diverse mechanoreceptive properties depending on the anatomical location. 相似文献

Generation of oxidative products by phagocytic cells is known to be an important host defense mechanism directed toward killing of invading microorganisms. The importance of two major oxidant-producing enzymes, myeloperoxidase (MPO) and NADPH-oxidase, in in vivo fungicidal action was directly compared in genetically engineered mice. Both MPO-deficient (MPO-/-) and NADPH-oxidase-deficient (X-linked chronic granulomatous disease [X-CGD]) mice showed increased susceptibility to pulmonary infections with Candida albicans and Aspergillus fumigatus compared with normal mice, and the X-CGD mice exhibited shorter survivals than MPO-/- mice. This increased mortality of X-CGD mice was associated with a 10- to 100-fold increased outgrowth of the fungi in their organs during the first 6 days. These results suggest that superoxide (O2-) produced by NADPH-oxidase is more important than hypochlorous acid (HOCl) produced by MPO, although both oxidative products obviously contribute to the host defense against pulmonary infection with those fungi. We also observed that MPO-/-/X-CGD double knockout mice showed comparable levels of susceptibility to the X-CGD mice against C. albicans and A. funigatus, indicating that MPO is unable to play a role in host defense in the absence of NADPH-oxidase. This strongly suggests that hydrogen peroxide, the precursor of HOCl, is solely derived from O2- produced by NADPH-oxidase. 相似文献

Summary This short paper summarizes the basic concept and the technology of a new computed radiographic system which uses an energy-storage phosphorus panel called Imaging Plate as an image sensor. The Imaging Plate can be used to obtain radiographs in exactly the same way as the screen-film combination is used in conventional radiography. The system eliminates the drawbacks of conventional screen-film radiography by combining digital image processing and digitization of the x-ray energy pattern utilizing scanning laser stimulated luminescence.The major part of this paper was originally delivered at the 1984 AAPM Annual Summer School which was held on July 22–27 at University of Notre Dame, USA. Electromagnetic interference (EMI) with electronic medical equipment by radio waves from mobile telephone handsets has been reported and is currently receiving wide attention. The possibility of EMI with electronic medical equipment by radio waves coming into the hospital has also been pointed out. But so far, there are no reports measuring the frequency distribution of electric field intensity induced by incoming radio waves. Therefore, we measured electric field intensity induced by radio waves coming into our 11-floor hospital, which was under construction. The maximum intensity observed was about 200 V/m at 2.79 GHz, from airport surveillance radar waves. The maximum intensity induced by radio waves from cellular phone base stations was 1.78 V/m. These data show that various frequencies of radio waves are common in this urban area, and that they induce strong electric field intensity. This strong electric field intensity might cause EMI with electronic medical equipment. Measurement of the electromagnetic environment should be done by each hospital in urban areas to prevent EMI with electronic medical equipment. 相似文献
