The authors regret that the plasma treatment and printing parameters were reported incorrectly in the subsection “Deposition on a-SiO2 for UV/Vis spectrophotometry” in the Experimental section of the original article.Before printing, the substrate for both samples was subjected to an argon plasma treatment for 5 minutes (150 W, 0.6 mbar). The plasma power is now corrected to be the same as stated in the “Deposition on a-SiO2 for Raman/XRD” subsection, where originally it was incorrectly stated that “the power was set slightly higher” for the Raman/XRD samples. Despite increasing evidence in favor of prophylactic valganciclovir treatment in kidney transplant recipients for the prevention of cytomegalovirus (CMV) infection, the impact of preemptive vs. prophylactic treatment on long‐term clinical outcomes is unclear. In this retrospective study, 187 kidney transplant recipients with serologic intermediate‐risk constellation (recipient CMV IgG positive) received either preemptive or prophylactic treatment with valganciclovir. Patient survival (primary endpoint), graft survival, viremia rates, and other CMV‐related outcomes were analyzed. Prophylactic therapy reduced the rates for CMV viremia during the first year (hazard ratio: 0.48, 95% confidence interval [CI] 0.30–0.75; p < 0.001). There was a trend for higher three‐yr patient mortality in the prophylactic group (hazard ratio: 5.08, 95% CI 0.62–41.3; p = 0.091), and the rate of graft loss was not reduced (hazard ratio: 0.93, 95% CI 0.32–2.68; p = 0.894). Estimated glomerular filtration rate over three yr was on average 6.8 mL/min/1.73 m2 lower in the prophylactic group (95% CI −11.68 to −1.81; p = 0.007) using a multivariate random effects model but showed more improvement over time. Prophylactic valganciclovir treatment reduced the rate of CMV infections during the first year post‐transplant but no effects of prophylactic treatment on patient and graft survival or kidney function over three yr were observed.  相似文献

Objective: Development of an Italian matrix sentence test for the assessment of speech intelligibility in noise. Design: The development of the test included the selection, recording, optimization with level adjustment, and evaluation of speech material. The training effect was assessed adaptively during the evaluation measurements with six lists of 20 sentences, using open- and closed-set response formats. Reference data were established for normal-hearing listeners with adaptive measurements. Equivalence of the test lists was investigated using the open-set response format at three signal-to-noise ratios (SNRs). Study sample: A total of 55 normal-hearing Italian mother-tongue listeners. Results: The evaluation measurements at fixed SNRs resulted in a mean speech reception threshold (SRT) of ? 7.3 ± 0.2 dB SNR and slope of 13.3 ± 1.2 %/dB. The major training effect of 1.5 dB was observed for the first two consecutive measurements. Mean SRTs of ? 6.7 ± 0.7 dB SNR and ? 7.4 ± 0.7 dB SNR were found from the third to the sixth adaptive measurement for open- and closed-set test response formats, respectively. Conclusions: A good agreement has been found between the SRTs and slope and those of other matrix tests. Since sentences are difficult to memorize, the Italian matrix test is suitable for repeated measurements.  相似文献

Shotgun metagenomic sequencing (SMg) enables the simultaneous detection and characterization of viruses in human, animal and environmental samples. However, lack of sensitivity still poses a challenge and may lead to poor detection and data acquisition for detailed analysis. To improve sensitivity, we assessed a broad scope targeted sequence capture (TSC) panel (ViroCap) in both human and animal samples. Moreover, we adjusted TSC for the Oxford Nanopore MinION and compared the performance to an SMg approach. TSC on the Illumina NextSeq served as the gold standard. Overall, TSC increased the viral read count significantly in challenging human samples, with the highest genome coverage achieved using the TSC on the MinION. TSC also improved the genome coverage and sequencing depth in clinically relevant viruses in the animal samples, such as influenza A virus. However, SMg was shown to be adequate for characterizing a highly diverse animal virome. TSC on the MinION was comparable to the NextSeq and can provide a valuable alternative, offering longer reads, portability and lower initial cost. Developing new viral enrichment approaches to detect and characterize significant human and animal viruses is essential for the One Health Initiative.  相似文献

Dendritic cells (DCs) are master regulators of T‐cell responses. After sensing pathogen‐derived molecular patterns (PAMPs), or signals of inflammation and cellular stress, DCs differentiate into potent activators of naïve CD4+ and CD8+ T cells through a process that is termed DC maturation. By contrast, DCs induce and maintain peripheral T‐cell tolerance in the steady state, that is in the absence of overt infection or inflammation. However, the immunological steady state is not devoid of DC‐activating stimuli, such as commensal microorganisms, subclinical infections, or basal levels of proinflammatory mediators. In the presence of these activating stimuli, DC maturation must be calibrated to ensure self‐tolerance yet allow for adequate T‐cell responses to infections. Here, we review the factors that are known to control DC maturation in the steady state and discuss their effect on the tolerogenic function of steady‐state DCs.  相似文献
