Lepidapedon sereti n. sp. (Digenea: Lepidapedidae) in Coelorinchus sereti (Gadiformes: Macrouridae) from deep waters off Vanuatu

Lepidapedon sereti n. sp. is described from the macrourid Coelorinchus sereti from the deep water off Vanuatu. It is placed in the Elongatum group and Elongatum subgroup. It differs from the other species described in this subgroup by the distinctly dorsally subterminal excretory pore. It also differs from other species in combinations of size, excretory vesicle length, proportions of forebody, post-testicular region and other metric features. This constitutes the first record of a Lepidapedon (sensu stricto) from the Central Western Pacific Ocean.     

MAPLE Deposition of Macromolecules

Macromolecules are poised to feature prominently as components in organic electronics, medical implants, drug delivery systems, and sensors. A common theme for the role polymers will play in all of these is as a thin film. In all applications, it is paramount to have precise control over film thickness, structure, morphology, surfaces roughness, etc. Here, matrix‐assisted pulsed laser evaporation (MAPLE) is reviewed as a route to processing polymer and other soft matter thin films with control over the above‐mentioned parameters. After briefly discussing the experimental setup and current proposed mechanism of film formation via MAPLE, the use of MAPLE to process thin films is highlighted for use in various technologies and applications. Future directions and challenges for MAPLE processing of thin films are also discussed.

     

Anesthesia and the developing brain: a way forward for clinical research

It is now well established that many general anesthetics have a variety of effects on the developing brain in animal models. In contrast, human cohort studies show mixed evidence for any association between neurobehavioural outcome and anesthesia exposure in early childhood. In spite of large volumes of research, it remains very unclear if the animal studies have any clinical relevance; or indeed how, or if, clinical practice needs to be altered. Answering these questions is of great importance given the huge numbers of young children exposed to general anesthetics. A recent meeting in Genoa brought together researchers and clinicians to map a path forward for future clinical studies. This paper describes these discussions and conclusions. It was agreed that there is a need for large, detailed, prospective, observational studies, and for carefully designed trials. It may be impossible to design or conduct a single study to completely exclude the possibility that anesthetics can, under certain circumstances, produce long‐term neurobehavioural changes in humans; however , observational studies will improve our understanding of which children are at greatest risk, and may also suggest potential underlying etiologies, and clinical trials will provide the strongest evidence to test the effectiveness of different strategies or anesthetic regimens with respect to better neurobehavioral outcome.     

Ten Changes Psychotherapists Typically Make as They Mature Into the Role of Supervisor

Stage models have largely informed scholarship on supervisor developmental processes. We argue that understanding this development as occurring along dimensions is more useful for both supervision practitioners and educators as well as for those engaged in research on supervisor development. Building on the work of Heid ( 1997 ) and working with a panel of 7 supervision experts, we identify 10 themes and validate their salience to supervisor development using a sample of 22 clinical supervisors. We describe and elaborate on each theme, and then present and discuss a case vignette that illustrates many of the supervisor developmental themes.     

The Development of Lingualized Occlusion

This article is a historical review of the development of the lingualized occlusion concept over the past century. It focuses on the pioneers of lingualized occlusion and their designs rather than on techniques for achieving a lingualized complete denture occlusion.
