Observations on Degenerative Changes Within the Optic Nerve in Patients With Primary Open Glaucoma and Arterial Hypertension: 6-Month Follow-Up

The authors aimed to determine the effect of the time of hypotensive drug administration on the progress of degenerative changes within the optic nerve in patients with hypertension and glaucoma. Two groups were included in the study: group A comprised patients-dippers taking drugs in the mornings, and group B comprised patients-nondippers taking drugs both in the mornings and in the evenings. After 6 months, group B showed significant drops in nocturnal diastolic blood pressure (BP) (month 1=73.27 mm Hg vs month 6=67.50 mm Hg), nocturnal mean BP (89.34 vs 84.65 mm Hg), and minimum diastolic BP (50.74 vs 44.03 mm Hg). Group B also showed significant reductions in nocturnal ocular perfusion pressure (43.0 vs 39.73), retinal nerve fiber layer thickness (131.31 vs 113.12 μm), and flow in the eye vessels. Taking hypotensive drugs in the evening may significantly decrease blood flow in the eye arteries, cause degenerative changes within the optic nerves, and result in greater loss in the field of vision.     

吸入伊洛前列素对初入高海拔地区青年血流动力学的影响

目的探讨雾化吸入伊洛前列素溶液对初入高海拔地区青年血流动力学的影响。方法将32名受试者随机分为伊洛前列素组(n=16)和对照组(n=16),自海拔1 400 m历时5 d进入5 200 m,从进入海拔5 200 m当天开始,伊洛前列素组4次/d雾化吸入伊洛前列素溶液,连续5 d。对照组用同样的方法吸入生理盐水。于吸入伊洛前列素溶液第5天,用XG-Ⅲ型血液循环功能自动测试仪检测两组受试者的血流动力学。结果伊洛前列素组较对照组P、TPR、ALT、η、BK、PAWP、CCP降低,差异有统计学意义(P<0.05);SV、MAP、BV增高,差异有统计学意义(P<0.05)。结论在高原雾化吸入伊洛前列素溶液对初入高海拔地区青年血流动力学有明显的改善作用。     

Enhanced immune response to foot-and-mouth disease vaccine by oral administration of ginseng stem-leaf saponins

Vaccination is an important approach to the control of foot-and-mouth disease (FMD). This study evaluated the effect of oral administration of ginseng stem–leaf saponins (GSLS) on the immune response to FMD vaccine and the gut mucosal immunity in mice. In experiment 1, mice were orally administered GSLS or not treated as a control. The animals were then immunized twice with FMD vaccine. Blood was sampled weekly within five weeks after the boost immunization for measurement of serum IgG and the isotypes. In experiment 2, mice were orally administrated GSLS or not treated as a control. After that, splenocytes were prepared from sacrificed mice for lymphocyte proliferation assay and intestinal tissues were sampled for immunohistochemistry and histological examination. The results showed that oral administration of GSLS significantly enhanced serum IgG and the isotype responses to FMD vaccine as well as the number of intestinal intraepithelial lymphocytes (IELs) and immunoglobulin A (IgA)+?cells. Therefore, GSLS may be a potent oral adjuvant and deserve further study to improve vaccination in susceptible animals.
