Ovarian carcinoma continues to be the leading cause of death among gynecologic malignancies. Paclitaxel and platinum chemotherapy
is still the treatment of choice after primary debulking surgery. Salvage chemotherapy with several single agents has only
modest activity and does not prolong survival of patients with relapsed ovarian carcinoma. An intense search has been made
for novel approaches to treatment of ovarian cancer, and several new treatments, such as immunotherapy and gene therapy, show
promise. Newer combination chemotherapy regimens and molecularly targeted therapy need to be developed. High-dose chemotherapy
with autologous stem-cell transplantation appears to benefit selected groups of patients and is still investigational. Whole
abdominal radiotherapy for relapsed microscopic disease should be studied in prospective randomized trials. Women with advanced
ovarian carcinoma should continue to be encouraged to participate in welldesigned clinical trials. 相似文献

The most common surgery on the esophagus by pediatric surgeons the world over is performed in the newborn period in babies
with congenital esophageal atresia with tracheo-esophageal fistula. Post-operative complications like recurrent fistula, anastomotic
stricture and some patients with gastroesophageal reflux would also require surgical intervention. Apart from esophageal dilatation,
gastrostomy and feeding jejunostomy, children with strictures secondary to caustic ingestion, reflux or previous esophageal
anastomosis may require esophageal substitution. This operation may also be required in babies with pure esophageal atresia
as well as those with a long gap esophageal atresia with fistula. The entire stomach, stomach tubes, colon or jejunum are
often used but techniques preserving as much of the original esophagus as possible are preferable and more physiological.

Low dose injectable contraceptive norethisterone enanthate 20mg monthly — II. Metabolic side effects
Metabolic effects of a long-acting low dose injectable contraceptive, norethisterone enanthate 20-mg, monthly injections (Neten-20), was tested in 13 women belonging to the low income groups over a period of 1 year. No change was observed in hemoglobin, hematocrit, glucose tolerance, plasma lipids, iron, calcium, or serum glutamate-oxaloacetate transaminase after treatment. Marginal rise in albumin and fall in some globulin fractions was observed. The slight fall seen in serum alkaline phosphatase could be attributed to a change in lactation status. Vitamin A, pyridoxine and riboflavin status were not altered. A peculiar aberration in the tryptophan-niacin pathway as indicated by rise in kynurenic acid excretion after tryptophan load was observed. This could be corrected by multivitamin therapy. These data suggest that the use of Neten-20 for one year does not lead to adverse metabolic effects analogous to those seen with combination type oral contraceptives. 相似文献

We have previously described that tissue transglutaminase (tTG) is a high level phenotypic biomarker in prostate cancer, which is down regulated in prostate cancer and surrounding premalignant field compared to benign prostate glands. To understand the function of tTG in prostate cancer, we sought to identify proteins that interact with the transglutaminase moiety of tTG using a human prostate cancer complementary deoxyribonucleic acid library in a Yeast 2-Hybrid system. The Yeast 2-Hybrid experiments identified a strong and novel interaction between the transglutaminase moiety and protein kinase A anchor protein 13 (AKAP13), which was quantified by β-galactosidase assay, confirmed in vitro by immunoprecipitation experiments using PC3 prostate cancer cell lysates, and in vivo colocalization was confirmed by immunofluorescence studies in PC3 cells. Because AKAP plays a major role in protein kinase A and Rho protein mediated signaling, functional studies are underway to elucidate the significance of tTG-AKAP13 interaction in prostate cancer. 相似文献

The allure of fetal surgery is the possibility of interruptingin utero progression of an otherwise treatable condition. In spite of advances in prenatal diagnosis and refinements in surgical techniques,

Two rare cases of completely isolated duplication cysts are reported. A large but asymptomatic tubular cyst hanging from a narrow pedicle arising from the base of the terminal ileal mesentery was removed in a 6-day-old boy along with correction of associated malrotation. Multiple isolated duplication cysts located in the thorax and abdomen were excised in a 10-week-old infant. Both children remained asymptomatic after surgery. 相似文献
