The aim of this study was to evaluate the ability of five experimental resins, which ranged from hydrophobic to hydrophilic blends, to seal acid-etched dentine saturated with water or ethanol. The experimental resins (R1, R2, R3, R4, and R5) were evaluated as neat bonding agents (100% resin) or as solutions solvated with absolute ethanol (70% resin/30% ethanol). Fluid conductance was measured at 20 cm H(2)O hydrostatic pressure after sound dentine surfaces were: (i) covered with a smear layer; (ii) acid-etched; or (iii) bonded with neat or solvated resins, which were applied to acid-etched dentine saturated with water or ethanol. In general, the fluid conductance of resin-bonded dentine was significantly higher than that of smear layer-covered dentine. However, when the most hydrophobic neat resins (R1 and R2) were applied to acid-etched dentine saturated with ethanol, the fluid conductance was as low as that produced by smear layers. The fluid conductance of resin-bonded dentine saturated with ethanol was significantly lower than for resin bonded to water-saturated dentine, except for resin R4. Application of more hydrophobic resins may provide better sealing of acid-etched dentine if the substrate is saturated with ethanol instead of with water. 相似文献

Degradation of the hybrid layer created in dentin by dentin adhesives is caused by enzyme activities present within the dentin matrix that destroy unprotected collagen fibrils. The aim of the present study was to evaluate the effect of a one‐step self‐etch adhesive system on dentinal matrix metalloproteinases 2 and 4 (MMP‐2 and MMP‐9, respectively) using in situ zymography and an enzymatic activity assay. The null hypothesis tested was that there are no differences in the activities of dentinal MMPs before and after treatment with a one‐step adhesive system. The MMP‐2 and MMP‐9 activities in dentin treated with the one‐step adhesive, Adper Easy Bond, were quantified using an enzymatic activity assay system. The MMP activities within the hybrid layer created by the one‐step adhesive tested were also evaluated using in situ zymography. The enzymatic assay revealed an increase in MMP‐2 and MMP‐9 activities after treatment with adhesive. In situ zymography indicated that gelatinolytic activity is present within the hybrid layer created with the one‐step self‐etch adhesive. The host‐derived gelatinases were localized within the hybrid layer and remained active after the bonding procedure. It is concluded that the one‐step self‐etch adhesive investigated activates endogenous MMP‐2 and MMP‐9 with the dentin matrix, which may cause collagen degradation over time. 相似文献

A 74‐year‐old man with past history of near syncope presented with frequent periods of second‐degree atrioventricular block (2° AVB). An electrophysiological study revealed prolonged atrial‐His and His‐ventricular (HV) intervals and frequent His bundle (H) extrasystoles. The latter manifested in the surface electrocardiogram as premature atrial, junctional, or ventricular beats, as well as 2° AVB that mimicked Wenckebach or Mobitz II block. Procainamide markedly suppressed H extrasystole. However, because of the presence of prolonged HV interval and history of presyncope, a permanent pacemaker was inserted. It is uncertain whether single-phase self-etching adhesives form bonds to enamel as reliable as those of etch-and-rinse adhesives. This study compared the microtensile bond strengths to ground enamel of three self-etching adhesive systems, a self-etching primer system and an etchand-rinse adhesive system. Human enamel was ground flat with 320-grit silicone carbide paper. The self-etching adhesives iBond (Heraeus Kulzer), Prompt L-Pop (3M ESPE) and Xeno III (Caulk/Dentsply), the adhesive with a self-etching primer Clearfil SE Bond (Kuraray) and the etch-and-rinse adhesive Scotchbond Multipur-pose (3M/ESPE) were applied as directed, followed by a core of the same manufacturers' hybrid resin composite. A microtensile bond strength evaluation was performed after 48 hours of water storage, using untrimmed beams approximately 0.9 mm2 in cross-sectional area at a crosshead speed of 0.6 mm/minute. There were no pretest failures in any group, and failures were predominately adhesive or mixed. Adhesion to enamel of Clearfil SE was not significantly different from Scotchbond Multi-Purpose, while the three self-etching adhesive systems demonstrated significantly lower bond strengths (One-way ANOVA, Tukey-Kramer Multiple-Comparison Test, p < 0.00001). 相似文献

Colonization of the airways by filamentous fungi can occur in asthma, chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) and cystic fibrosis. A recent study found IgE sensitization to Aspergillus fumigatus to be associated with reduced lung function. Significantly higher rates of A. fumigatus were detected in sputum from asthmatics sensitized to this fungus compared to non-sensitized asthmatics. The rate of positive cultures was far higher than equivalent historical samples analysed by the local clinical laboratory following protocols recommended by the UK Health Protection Agency (HPA). This study compares the HPA procedure with our sputum processing method, whereby sputum plugs are separated from saliva and aliquots of approximately 150 mg are inoculated directly onto potato dextrose agar. A total of 55 sputum samples from 41 patients with COPD were analyzed, comparing fungal recovery of five dilutions of sputa on two media. Isolation of A. fumigatus in culture was significantly higher using the research approach compared to the HPA standard method for mycological investigations (P < 0.001). There was also a significant difference in the recovery rate of A. fumigatus (P < 0.05) between media.
