A porous TiO2 layer was prepared with the plasma electrolytic oxidation (PEO) of Ti. In a further step, Pd was deposited on the TiO2 surface layer using the adsorption method. The activity of the Pd/TiO2/Ti catalyst was investigated during the oxidation of CO to CO2 in a mixture of air with 5% CO. The structure of the catalytic active layer was studied using a scanning electron microscope equipped with an energy dispersive spectrometer (SEM-EDS), time-of-flight secondary ion mass spectrometry (TOF-SIMS), inductively coupled plasma mass spectrometry (ICP-MS), and X-ray diffraction (XRD). The PEO process provided a porous TiO2 layer with a uniform thickness in the range of 5–10 µm, which is desirable for the production of Pd-supported catalysts. A TOF-SIMS analysis showed the formation of Pd nanoparticles after the adsorption treatment. The conversion of CO to CO2 in all samples was achieved at 150–280 °C, depending on the concentration of Pd. The composition of Pd/ TiO2/Ti was determined using ICP-MS. The optimum concentration of Pd on the surface of the catalyst was approximately 0.14% wt. This concentration was obtained when a 0.4% PdCl2 solution was used in the adsorption process. Increasing the concentration of PdCl2 did not lead to a further improvement in the activity of Pd/ TiO2/Ti.  相似文献

Recent research revealed a surprisingly large range of cognitive operations to be preserved during sleep in humans. The new challenge is therefore to understand functions and mechanisms of processes, which so far have been mainly investigated in awake subjects. The current study focuses on dynamic changes of brain oscillations and connectivity patterns in response to environmental stimulation during non-REM sleep. Our results indicate that aurally presented names were processed and neuronally differentiated across the wake-sleep spectrum. Simultaneously recorded EEG and MEG signals revealed two distinct clusters of oscillatory power increase in response to the stimuli: (1) vigilance state-independent θ synchronization occurring immediately after stimulus onset, followed by (2) sleep-specific α/σ synchronization peaking after stimulus offset. We discuss the possible role of θ, α, and σ oscillations during non-REM sleep, and work toward a unified theory of brain rhythms and their functions during sleep.SIGNIFICANCE STATEMENT Previous research has revealed (residual) capacity of the sleeping human brain to interact with the environment. How sensory processing is realized by the neural assemblies in different stages of sleep is however unclear. To tackle this question, we examined simultaneously recorded MEG and EEG data. We discuss the possible role of θ, α, and σ oscillations during non-REM sleep. In contrast to versatile θ band response that reflected early stimulus processing step, succeeding α and σ band activity was sensitive to the saliency of the incoming information, and contingent on the sleep stage. Our findings suggest that the specific reorganization of mechanisms involved in later stages of sensory processing takes place upon falling asleep.  相似文献

Materials with potential use as dental restoration should be evaluated in an aggressive environment. Such accelerated aging is widely used in other industries and allows the assessment of service life. In the presented study, three neat resins (UDMA/Bis-GMA/TEGDMA 70/10/20 wt.%, UDMA/Bis-GMA/TEGDMA 40/40/20 wt.% and UDMA/Bis-EMA/TEGDMA 40/40/20 wt.%) and three composites based on these matrices were tested before and after aging protocols (I-7500 cycles, 5 °C and 55 °C, water and 7 days, 60 °C, 0.1 M NaOH; II-5 days, 55 °C, water and 7 days, 60 °C, 0.1 M NaOH). Flexural strength (FS), diametral tensile strength (DTS) and hardness (HV) were determined. Applied aging protocols resulted in a decrease in the value of the FS, DTS and HV. Larger changes were noticed for the neat resins. Materials in which the content of bis-GMA was lower or substituted by bis-EMA showed better resistance to degradation. The choice of mixtures with monomers characterized by lower sorption values may favorably affect hydrolytic stability. It was shown that for composites there was a drastic decrease in hardness, which suggests a more superficial effect of the used protocols. However, degradation of the surface layer can result in a growing problem over time given that the mastication processes are an inherent element in the oral environment.  相似文献

BACKGROUND: The failure of pancreatic islet allotransplants observed in almost all clinical attempts is related to poor initial islet function and allograft rejection. To remedy these problems we cultured islets in microgravity conditions to improve their function and to reduce their immunogenicity. METHODS: Fresh mouse islets or mouse islets cultured in stationary dishes or microgravity bioreactors were transplanted to streptozotocin-induced diabetic mouse recipients. RESULTS: Both allogeneic dish- or bioreactor-cultured islets survived more than 100 days compared with fresh allogeneic islets, which were rejected in less than 15 days. Islet titration studies revealed that 250 fresh or dish-cultured, but only 30 to 120 bioreactor-cultured, islets were necessary to produce euglycemia. Furthermore, glucose tolerance tests showed that bioreactor-cultured islets functioned better compared with fresh and dish-cultured islets on day 30 postgrafting. Immunostaining and transmission electron microscopy (TEM) analyses showed the gradual disappearance of dendritic cells in cultured islets compared with fresh islets. TEM revealed that the ultrastructure of islets from bioreactor, but not dish, appeared healthy and closely resembled fresh islets. Interestingly, TEM and scanning electron microscopy showed that only bioreactor-cultured islets developed unique and multiple nutritional channels between arrays of islet cells. TEM with colloidal lanthanum tracer revealed that only bioreactor islet cell cultures were devoid of tight junctional complexes, which may facilitate channel formation. CONCLUSION: Microgravity condition decreases immunogenicity and significantly improves the function of secretory cells.  相似文献

The purpose of this phase III clinical trial was to compare two different extracellular contrast agents, 1.0 M gadobutrol and 0.5 M gadopentate dimeglumine, for magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) in patients with known or suspected focal renal lesions. Using a multicenter, single-blind, interindividual, randomized study design, both contrast agents were compared in a total of 471 patients regarding their diagnostic accuracy, sensitivity, and specificity to correctly classify focal lesions of the kidney. To test for noninferiority the diagnostic accuracy rates for both contrast agents were compared with CT results based on a blinded reading. The average diagnostic accuracy across the three blinded readers (‘average reader’) was 83.7% for gadobutrol and 87.3% for gadopentate dimeglumine. The increase in accuracy from precontrast to combined precontrast and postcontrast MRI was 8.0% for gadobutrol and 6.9% for gadopentate dimeglumine. Sensitivity of the average reader was 85.2% for gadobutrol and 88.7% for gadopentate dimeglumine. Specificity of the average reader was 82.1% for gadobutrol and 86.1% for gadopentate dimeglumine. In conclusion, this study documents evidence for the noninferiority of a single i.v. bolus injection of 1.0 M gadobutrol compared with 0.5 M gadopentate dimeglumine in the diagnostic assessment of renal lesions with CE-MRI.

Statement of problem

Polymeric material for 3-dimensional printing can be used to fabricate occlusal devices. However, information about fracture resistance and wear is scarce.

Purpose

The purpose of this in vitro study was to investigate the fracture resistance and 2-body wear of 3-dimensional–printed (3DP) (FotoDent splint; Dreve Dentamid GmbH), milled polymethylmethacrylate (CAM) (Temp Basic; Transpa 95H16, Zirkonzahn GmbH), and conventionally fabricated polymethylmethacrylate (CAST) (Castdon; Dreve Dentamid GmbH) occlusal devices.

Material and Methods

A total of 96 occlusal devices were prepared according to the 3 different manufacturing techniques 3DP, CAM, and CAST (n=32). For each manufacturing technique, specimens were further divided into initial fracture resistance tests (n=16) and artificial aging in the mastication simulator (50 N, 37°C) with 2-body wear followed by fracture resistance tests (n=16). The fracture resistance was determined using a universal testing machine (1 mm/min). The wear was measured after 20?000 and 120?000 mastication cycles with the replica technique, mapped with a laser scanner, and quantified in R software. Data were analyzed using a 2-way ANOVA followed by a 1-way ANOVA with Scheffé or Games-Howell post hoc tests, repeated measures ANOVA with corrected Greenhouse-Geisser P values, and the Levene, Mann-Whitney, and paired t tests (α=.05).

Results

CAM presented higher initial fracture resistance than 3DP or CAST (P<.001). After mastication simulation, CAM followed by 3DP showed higher fracture resistance than CAST (P<.001). Mastication simulation decreased the fracture resistance for CAM and CAST (P<.001) but not for 3DP (P=.78). Three-dimensional–printed occlusal devices showed the highest material volume loss, followed by CAM and the lowest in CAST (P<.001).

Conclusions

Three-dimensional–printed occlusal devices showed lower wear resistance and lower fracture resistance than those milled or conventionally fabricated. Therefore, only short-term application in the mouth is recommended. Further developments of occlusal device material for 3-dimensional printing are necessary.  相似文献

The effect of melatonin on glucose metabolism in the presence and absence of insulin has been investigated in the primary cultures of renal tubules grown in a defined medium. In the absence of glucose in the medium containing 5 microg/mL of insulin and 2 mm alanine + 5 mm glycerol + 0.5 mm octanoate, 100 nm melatonin stimulated both glucose and lactate synthesis, while in the medium devoid of insulin melatonin action was negligible. Melatonin-induced increase in glucose and lactate synthesis was accompanied by an enhancement of alanine and glycerol consumption. In view of measurements of [U-14C]L-alanine and [U-14C]L-glycerol incorporation into glucose, it is likely that melatonin increased alanine utilization for glucose production, while accelerated lactate synthesis was because of an enhanced glycerol consumption. As (i) 10 nm luzindole attenuated the stimulatory action of melatonin on glucose formation and (ii) the indole induced a decrease in intracellular cAMP level, it seems likely that in renal tubules melatonin binds to ML1 membrane receptor subtype. In view of a decline of intracellular fructose-1,6-bisphosphate content accompanied by a significant rise in hexose-6-phosphate and glucose levels, melatonin might result in an acceleration of flux through fructose-1,6-bisphosphatase probably because of an increase in the active, dephosphorylated form of this enzyme. Thus, the administration of melatonin in combination with insulin might be beneficial for diabetic therapy because of protection against hypoglycemia.  相似文献

Closed-loop control of the glucose concentration in type 1 diabetes has been the subject of extensive research over the last 3 decades. Building on the recent progress in continuous glucose sensing techniques, several prototypes of a closed-loop system have been developed. To complement existing measures of glucose control, we designed a grading system specifically designed to provide clinical assessment of closed-loop systems including that of glucose controllers. The system introduces six grades, A-F, describing the level of control and the therapeutic intervention during outside-meal and postprandial conditions. Grades A and B represent excellent and good glucose control, respectively, without the need for a corrective therapeutic action. Grade C represents suboptimal control with a recommendation for a corrective action. Grade D represents poor control requiring a corrective action. Grades E and F represent very poor and life-threatening control, respectively, with a need for an immediate corrective action or requiring external assistance. The outcome of grading is the quantification of time spent in each grade. The grading system is exemplified using data obtained with a model predictive controller within an in silico simulation environment. We conclude that the grading system provides suitable means to assess efficacy and safety of glucose controllers complementing existing measures of glucose control.  相似文献

A female patient suffering from dermatomyositis in whom symptoms of heart failure without angina is described. An impairment of left ventricular function and significant coronary lesions were diagnosed using noninvasive and invasive procedures.
