Cholinergic and dopaminergic systems are involved in spatial memory and are modulated by nitric oxide (NO); NO has well documented effects on place learning in rodents. The aim of the present study was to investigate the effect of NOS inhibition on place learning in the water maze and to evaluate the relationships between NOS inhibition, learning performance, dopamine (DA) D2 and muscarinic acetylcholine (mACh) receptors. Male Sprague-Dawley rats received the NOS inhibitor Nomega-Nitro-l-Arginine (l-NA), or saline and were trained in the water maze. Rats that were not trained, but received the same treatments were also included. Following treatments with or without water maze training, [3H]-QNB and [3H]-spiperone binding in cortex, striatum and hippocampus were determined to assess the effects of NOS inhibition and/or learning on DA D2 and mACh receptor regulation. The overall results of the present study showed that: (1) NOS inhibition impairs performance in the MWM; (2) NOS inhibition does not affect specific binding to DA D2 (striatum and hippocampus) and mACh (cortex and hippocampus) receptors; (3) MWM training lowers D2 and mACh receptor binding in cortical regions. 相似文献

OBJECTIVE: The present paper reviews surgical treatment alternatives for patients with Peyronie's disease using knowledge obtained from the contemporary literature. METHODS: : All aspects of surgical treatment for Peyronie's disease were examined on the basis of MEDLINE database researches. RESULTS: Surgical treatment should be delayed until the acute inflammatory phase has resolved and should be considered in patients with deformity that impairs sexual function. Currently, surgical treatment alternatives are reconstructive surgery by either lengthening the concave side (incision and grafting) or shortening the convex side (Nesbit procedure or plication) of the penis, and implantation of penile prosthesis with or without incision of the plaque. PD patients with good erectile capacity are candidates for reconstructive surgery. Meanwhile, implantation of penile prosthesis with or without remodeling should be considered for patients without adequate erectile capacity. CONCLUSIONS: The aim of the surgical treatment in Peyronie's disease is to correct the deformity while preserving or improving erectile capacity of the penis. Nicotine exerts its central actions by regulating cationic fluxes through nicotinic acetylcholine receptors (nAChRs). By this effect, the drug likely also modifies events occurring beyond the nAChR, including the regulation of nitric oxide (NO) synthesis. The present study was undertaken to assess the effects of acute and chronic nicotine administration (0.4 mg/kg, s.c.) on levels of NO−2+NO−3, stable metabolites of NO, in brain regions of male and female rats. Nicotine increased levels of the metabolites, and therefore presumably of NO, with sex differences in the degree of stimulation, the brain regions affected, and the variance between the effects of acute and chronic administration. Prior inhibition of NO synthase eliminated the effect of nicotine in all regions studied. While nicotine appeared to increase NO indirectly via glutamate receptors in the cortex and hippocampus, this was not true of the corpus striatum, where blocking NMDA-type glutamate receptors with MK-801 had no effect. The findings support the view that NO is likely involved in some of the central effects of nicotine. 相似文献

The aim of this study was to compare depression and anxiety levels of kidney transplant recipients and of their donor spouses seeking to show whether their dyadic adjustment levels related to their psychological states in the posttransplantation period. We selected 30 donor-recipient pairs who underwent spousal kidney transplantation. The study was performed while participants were in the hospital for routine examinations. Both donors and recipients were administered The Dyadic Adjustment Scale, The Hospital Anxiety and Depression Scale, and The Beck Depression Inventory. Our results showed correlations between donor and recipient postoperative depression levels (P < .01). For donors, dyadic adjustment and depression levels were correlated, but not for recipients. Pretransplantation psychological assessment of a spousal donor is necessary to provide pretransplantation interventions for possible depressive disorders and marital dysfunction. In this way, recipient depression and anxiety levels may be reduced in the posttransplantation period with better treatment compliance and improved graft survival. 相似文献

This study aimed to investigate the prognostic and predictive effect of FOXP3+ Tregs together with clinicopathologic factors in locally advanced breast cancer (LABC) patients. The medical records of 101 LABC patients who received neoadjuvant chemotherapy (NAC) between 2005 and 2012 were evaluated retrospectively. The density of intratumoral FOXP3+ lymphocytes in paraffin-embedded tissues was assessed by immunohistochemical analyses in appropriate cases. The relationship with clinicopathologic features, prognosis and chemotherapy response was investigated. HR(–) and HER2(+) tumors tended to have higher pre-chemotherapy Tregs than HR(+) tumors, and significantly higher pathologic complete response (PCR) rates were observed in these patients. Treg decline after NAC was associated with better pathological response rates. Lower intratumoral infiltration of FOXP3+ Tregs after NAC (<3.4/HPF) was significantly associated with higher PCR rates for breast, and close to the significance limit for total (or both for breast and axillary) PCR rates (PCR for breast: 25 vs. 2.9 % for low vs. high Treg, p = 0.001; PCR for breast + axillary tissue: 13.9 vs. 0 %, p = 0.05). Despite better PCR rates, patients with high intratumoral Treg infiltrates (≥11.5/HPF) before chemotherapy had significantly shorter overall survival than patients with low Treg infiltrates (<11.5/HPF). Cox multivariate regression analyses demonstrated that the density of Treg infiltration before chemotherapy was the strongest predictor for survival. This study established the predictive and prognostic effect of intratumoral FOXP3+ Tregs in LABC patients. To predict clinical outcome, evaluation of FOXP3+ Tregs in tumoral tissues before and after NAC should be considered for these high-risk patients. 相似文献

Background
This work aims at describing the traditional uses, to determine the antimicrobial potential of two different extracts hexane, acetone of the leaves of Citrus unshiu, Citrus sinensis, Citrus limon, Laurus nobilis, Citrus paradisi on clinical strain of H. pylori in a bid to identify potential sources of cheap starting materials for the synthesis of new drugs. H. pylori strain was a culture collection of Hacettepe University, Turkey.Methods
The activity was quantitatively assessed on the basis of the inhibition zone, and their activity index was also calculated along with the MIC method.Results
All the plants demonstrated antimicrobial activity against H. pylori with zone of inhibition diameters ranging from 0 – 30 mm and minimum inhibitory concentration (MIC) values ranging from 1:512–1:4096 dilutions.Conclusion
The results may serve as scientific validation of the ethnomedicinal uses of the Citrus unshiu, Citrus sinensis, Citrus limon, Laurus nobilis, and Citrus paradisi in the treatment of H. pylori-related infections.
