Psychophysiologic indices in evaluation of working capacity,fatigue and overstrain in seamen

The authors have discussed the new conceptual neurophysiological model of genesis and pathogenesis of fatigue and overstrain in seamen. The complex phase character of the developing changes was revealed. Use of the complex of psychophysiological methods with consideration of neurophysiological nature of the changes detected allowed us to obtain the objective assessment concerning fatigue and overstrain in seamen. It is shown that the existing conceptions about the dynamics of nervous processes developed in seamen during fatigue and overstrain including those described in the corresponding documents of the Navy and their evaluation are too simplified and theoretically incorrect. These incorrect concepts practically prevent the conduction of appropriate medical and prophylactic measures, complicate the standardization of some characteristics of habitability of the Navy ships and submarines, not ensure trouble-free conditions at sea in terms of human factor.     

Use of artificial magnetic field for rehabilitation of children with malignant tumors

Local complications of standard intravenous injections for chemotherapy and due to error of administration were compared in 400 patients (200 of them children) and general wound pathologies described. Treatment for wounds included two modalities: standard medication and alternating or pulsating magnetic field. Magnetic therapy proved highly effective: wound healing was 3-3.5 times faster while duration of treatment--2-3 times shorter than in standard procedure. Clinically-verified partial adhesion-related intestinal obstruction was eliminated by magnetic procedure in 18 children after combined treatment for lymphosarcoma involving the ileum.     

Power units of implanted artificial heart and assisted circulation system]

The existing and presently planned systems of power supply for an artificially implanted heart and assisted circulation devices are reviewed. A comparative analysis as to their conformability to biological, functional and technical demands placed on the implanted systems is given. In an implanted artificial heart and assisted circulation systems most promising is shown to be the use of nuclear fuel as a source of power and as converters -- that of thermal engines with gas and steam cycle.
