Multicentric reticulohistiocytosis (MRH) is a rare systemic inflammatory granulomatous disease that primarily manifests clinically with severe erosive arthritis and widespread papulonodular skin lesions but can involve multiple other organ systems. Despite the fact that this condition can become aggressive, debilitating as well as deforming with significant detrimental consequences, the etiology of this disease remains poorly understood. Moreover, the fact that MRH is such an uncommon disease has created an obstacle in the path of adequate clinical trials that are needed for better understanding of this phenomenon and for the development of treatment options for this patient population. In this review, we will attempt to discuss the epidemiology, pathophysiology, clinical features, associated conditions, differential diagnoses, diagnostic workup, and available treatments of MRH with the hope of creating a better understanding of this very challenging yet elusive disease process.  相似文献

Light scattering has been used for label-free cell detection. The angular light scattering patterns from the cells are unique to them based on the cell size, nucleus size, number of mitochondria, and cell surface roughness. The patterns collected from the cells can then be classified based on different image characteristics. We have also developed a machine learning (ML) method to classify these cell light scattering patterns. As a case study we have used this light scattering technique integrated with the machine learning to analyze staurosporine-treated SH-SY5Y neuroblastoma cells and compare them to non-treated control cells. Experimental results show that the ML technique can provide a classification accuracy (treated versus non-treated) of over 90%. The predicted percentage of the treated cells in a mixed solution is within 5% of the reference (ground-truth) value and the technique has the potential to be a viable method for real-time detection and diagnosis.  相似文献

Diosmin, a naturally occurring flavonoid commonly present in citrus fruit, is known to exhibit anti‐inflammatory, antimutagenic, antioxidant, and free radical scavenging as well as blood lipid lowering activities among others. Diosmin has also been used for the treatment of various diseases including diabetes mellitus and Alzheimer's disease. Our study explores the role of Diosmin in pulmonary toxicity (lung injury) induced by environmental contaminant benzo(a)pyrene [B(a)P]. Swiss Albino Mice (SAM) were administered with either Diosmin 100 or 200 mg/kg body weight daily for 14 days and then challenged with a single dose of B(a)P. On the 15th day, animals were sacrificed; lung tissues and blood were collected for molecular analysis. B(a)P administration in mice induced the thickening of lung epithelium, damaged alveolar architecture, and promoted inflammatory cell infiltration in the lung tissues. Also, B[a]P significantly increased the expression of NF‐kB, COX‐2, IL‐6, Bax, cleaved caspase 3, and cleaved PARP proteins and decreased antioxidant enzyme levels. Diosmin‐100 and Diosmin‐200 significantly attenuated the damage to lung epithelium, alveolar architecture, and reduced inflammatory cell infiltration in the lung tissues of mice. Diosmin significantly (P < .05) attenuated the levels of oxidative stress markers: lactate dehydrogenase and xanthine oxidase. A decrease in expression of NF‐kB, COX‐2, IL‐6, Bax, cleaved caspase 3, and cleaved PARP proteins in mice was challenged with B[a]P. Diosmin thus could be a promising therapeutic adjuvant against B[a]P‐induced oxidative stress and lung damage.  相似文献

Iliac crest trephine biopsy specimens from 16 patients treated with recombinant alpha 2-interferon (alpha-IFN) for hairy cell leukemia (HCL) were examined for reticulin and collagen content. These data were compared with the hairy cell index (HCl), the proportion of hairy cells to the overall cellularity of the bone marrow. Specimens were studied immediately before alpha-IFN therapy, at 6-month intervals during, and in six patients 6 months after cessation of therapy. All patients presented with increased bone marrow fibrosis ranging from focally increased reticulin to a diffuse increase in both reticulin and collagen content. This fibrosis was observed to decrease during alpha- IFN therapy inasmuch as the hairy cell population was diminished in the bone marrow in 13 patients. Regression analysis of HCl v bone marrow fibrosis showed a positive correlation (r = .73, P less than .02). Six patients demonstrated a reduction in bone marrow reticulin and collagen to normal levels during alpha-IFN therapy. Two of six patients demonstrated increased bone marrow fibrosis and HCl 6 months after cessation of alpha-IFN therapy. Three of 16 patients exhibited no decrease in bone marrow reticulin content during therapy despite a decreased bone marrow hairy cell population.  相似文献

Unilateral application of histamine in one segmental bronchus potentiated the airway resistance increase caused by ACH challenge of the bronchial tree. Unilateral or contralateral blockade of the N. vagus reduces the severity of the reaction by about 70% of the values before the blockade. The arterial blood gases were not influenced by the unilateral blockade of the N. vagus. The decrease of the arterial oxygen pressure following the ACH induced bronchoconstriction was not changed by the unilateral vagotomy. The breathing patterns change by unilateral vagus blockade: Tidal volume increases by about 50% and the breathing rate decreases by about 30%. The heart rates were remained unchanged.  相似文献

How Vibrio cholerae spreads around the world and what determines its seasonal peaks in endemic areas are not known. These features of cholera have been hypothesized to be primarily the result of environmental factors associated with aquatic habitats that can now be identified. Since 1997, fortnightly surveillance in 4 widely separated geographic locations in Bangladesh has been performed to identify patients with cholera and to collect environmental data. A total of 5670 patients (53% <5 years of age) have been studied; 14.3% had cholera (10.4% due to V. cholerae O1 El Tor, 3.8% due to O139). Both serogroups were found in all locations; outbreaks were seasonal and often occurred simultaneously. Water-use patterns showed that bathing and washing clothes in tube-well water was significantly protective in two of the sites. These data will be correlated with environmental factors, to develop a model for prediction of cholera outbreaks.  相似文献

AIM: To determine the efficacy of gastric juice polymerase chain reaction (PCR) for the detection of H pylori infection in comparison with histology and gastric antral biopsy PCR in patients on a proton pump inhibitor (PPI). METHODS: Eighty-five consecutive patients with dyspeptic symptoms were enrolled. Gastric biopsies for histology, PCR and gastric juice were collected at endoscopy for PCR of the H pylori urease C gene (ure C). Sensitivity, specificity, positive predictive value (PPV), negative predictive value (NPV), accuracy, positive and negative likelihood ratio for PCR of gastric juice for the H pylori ure C gene was compared to histology and gastric antral biopsy H pylori ure C PCR in patients with and without PPI. RESULTS: Gastric juice PCR was positive in 66 (78%) patients. Histology showed H pylori associated gastritis in 57 (67%). Gastric biopsy PCR was positive in 72 (85%). In patients not taking PPI, the sensitivity, specificity, PPV, NPV, accuracy and positive and negative likelihood ratio for gastric juice PCR were 89%, 72%, 91%, 67%, 90%, 85%, 3.1 and 0.1 respectively. In patients on PPI these values were 86%, 100%%, 100%, 29%, 86%, 9.5 and 1.4, respectively. CONCLUSION: Gastric juice PCR for the diagnosis of H pylori infection has increased sensitivity compared to histology with PPI. The use of gastric juice PCR is recommended to confirm H pylori status in patients taking PPIs.  相似文献
