Electronic presentations have become useful tools for surgeons, other clinicians and patients, facilitating medical and legal support and scientific research. Microsoft PowerPoint is by far and away the most commonly used computer-based presentation package. Setting up surgical clinical cases with PowerPoint makes it easy to register and follow patients for the purpose of discussion of treatment plan or scientific presentations. It facilitates communication between professionals, supervising clinical cases and teaching. It is often useful to create a template to standardize the presentation, offered by the software through the slide master. The purpose of this paper was to show a simple and practical method for creating a Microsoft PowerPoint template for use in presentations concerning oral and maxillofacial cancer.  相似文献

Malnutrition during the earliest stages of life may result in innumerable brain problems. Moreover, this condition could increase the chances of developing neurological diseases, such as epilepsy. We analyzed the effects of early-life malnutrition on susceptibility to epileptic seizures induced by the pilocarpine model of epilepsy. Wistar rat pups were kept on a starvation regimen from day 1 to day 21 after birth. At day 60, 16 animals (8 = well-nourished; 8 = malnourished) were exposed to the pilocarpine experimental model of epilepsy. Age-matched well-nourished (n = 8) and malnourished (n = 8) rats were used as controls. Animals were video-monitored over 9 weeks. The following behavioral parameters were evaluated: first seizure threshold (acute period of the pilocarpine model); status epilepticus (SE) latency; first spontaneous seizure latency (silent period), and spontaneous seizure frequency during the chronic phase. The cell and mossy fiber sprouting (MFS) density were evaluated in the hippocampal formation. Our results showed that the malnourished animals required a lower pilocarpine dose in order to develop SE (200 mg/kg), lower latency to reach SE, less time for the first spontaneous seizure and higher seizure frequency, when compared to well-nourished pilocarpine rats. Histopathological findings revealed a significant cell density reduction in the CA1 region and intense MFS among the malnourished animals. Our data indicate that early malnutrition greatly influences susceptibility to seizures and behavioral manifestations in adult life. These findings suggest that malnutrition in infancy reduces the threshold for epilepsy and promotes alterations in the brain that persist into adult life.  相似文献

Infants should be submitted to hearing screening upon birth, and for the results to be complete, it is necessary to assess middle ear conditions.ObjectiveTo check whether the type of breastfeeding in infants between zero and four months can impact middle ear conditions my means an ENT assessment and acoustic immittance comparing neonates who were submitted to hearing screening with those who failed it.Materials and MethodsOtoacoustic emissions (OAE) was carried out in 60 infants between zero and four months. They were distributed in two groups; group I had the infants with OAE and those infants in group II did not have OAE. They were submitted to tympanometry with a 1000 Hz test tone and ENT assessment.ResultsBottle fed infants or those who were fed in a mixed way had more changes to their audiometry and ENT assessment, with a statistically significant difference. The breastfed infants had a higher occasion of normal tympanometries and normal otorhinolaryngological assessment, with statistically significant difference.ConclusionWe then concluded that those breastfed implants had less ENT changes and as well as less acoustic immittance change, thus enabling OAEs. Breastfeeding alone can be considered a protection factor against middle ear changes.  相似文献

IntroductionAlthough PE represents a major cause of maternal and fetal morbidity and mortality, the vascular mechanisms underlying this disorder have not been clearly identified. During the past three decades, while numerous clinical, biophysical, and biochemical screening tests have been proposed for the early detection of preeclampsia, maternal circulation changes during early pregnancy have yet to be fully evaluated for their contribution to PE prediction.ObjectivesThe aim of this study was to examine a combination of maternal risk factors, mean arterial blood pressure, uterine artery Doppler, brachial artery flow-mediated dilatation (FMD), and ophthalmic artery Doppler for pre-eclampsia prediction during the first trimester of pregnancy.MethodsProspective study with singleton pregnancies examined at 11–14 weeks of gestation, presenting consecutively for antenatal care in a tertiary Brazilian hospital. The base-cohort population constituted of 487 singleton pregnancies, including 9 case subjects who developed pre-eclampsia (PE) requiring delivery before 34 weeks (early PE) and 22 with late PE, 47 with gestational hypertension, and 409 cases subjects (84%) who were unaffected by PE or gestational hypertension. Maternal history (nulliparity, previous and family history of PE), body mass index (BMI), mean arterial pressure (MAP), uterine artery pulsatility index, brachial artery FMD and ophthalmic artery Doppler were recorded in all of the cases. Univariate and logistic regression analysis was used to derive algorithms for the prediction of hypertensive disorders.ResultsUterine artery percentile of mean PI was higher in the PE than in the control group (p < 0.01). The mean brachial artery FMD was 7.4% ± 8.2% in the control group and 7.3% ± 8.2% in the PE group. Logistic regression analysis determined that FDM was not a predictor of PE (OR = 0.99, CI 95% 0.94–1.04; p = 0.90) and this test was withdrawn from the predictive model. The average of the first diastolic peak velocity in the ophthalmic artery was higher in the PE group compared with controls (24.56 cm/s × 21.13 cm/s; p < 0.01).It was estimated that, with the prediction algorithm for PE, a combination of maternal factors + MAP + uterine artery Doppler or ophthalmic artery Doppler can detect 78% of early-onset PE with 10% false-positive rate.ConclusionMaternal ophthalmic artery Doppler in the first trimester of pregnancy is a novel predictive parameter for PE (especially early-onset PE), it has the same detection rate contribution in a multi-parameter predictive model as would be the case uterine artery Doppler was used instead.  相似文献

俄罗斯不同气候地区不同功能水体中克雷伯菌属广泛分布。克雷伯菌属可见于遭受生物、化学污染的集中供水的地表水源,无防护的地下蓄水层,缺乏有效清洁、消毒系统的饮用水。研究表明,水体中的克雷伯菌属具有致病性和毒性,对现代药物和消毒剂(氯、紫外线)具有抗性,很容易穿透进入地下蓄水层。克雷伯菌属细菌有很强的致病性(粘附力、侵袭力、磷酸酯酶、卵磷脂酶、脱氧核糖核酸酶、溶血活性),含有致病性遗传标记cnf-1。克雷伯菌属(100 CFU/dm3)可引起急性肠道感染。在不检测总大肠菌群的情况下,检测水体尤其是饮用水中的克雷伯菌属,可以评估所用水的流行病学危险。  相似文献
