Various infectious agents can be transmitted by blood exposure, which comprises of transfusion, of which hemoparasites that are commonly absent from European countries but that can have infected blood donor candidates born, raised or having been living in the Tropics. Among those hemoparasites is Trypanosoma cruzi, responsible for Chagas disease. T. cruzi is responsible for acute post-transfusion infections every year in endemic areas (South America) and also, more incidently, in North America. There are situations which expose European blood donors to this risk and the present essay discusses arguments which have now been taken into consideration by certain transfusion systems such as the French one.  相似文献

There is now good evidence that cytokines and growth factors are key factors in tissue repair and often exert anti-infective activities. However, engineering such factors for global use, even in the most remote places, is not realistic. Instead, we propose to examine how such factors work and to evaluate the reparative tools generously provided by ‘nature.’ We used two approaches to address these objectives. The first approach was to reappraise the internal capacity of the factors contributing the most to healing in the body, i.e., blood platelets. The second was to revisit natural agents such as whey proteins, (honey) bee venom and propolis. The platelet approach elucidates the inflammation spectrum from physiology to pathology, whereas milk and honey derivatives accelerate diabetic wound healing. Thus, this review aims at offering a fresh view of how wound healing can be addressed by natural means.  相似文献

This paper addresses the modeling and simulation of blood collection systems in France for both fixed site and mobile blood collection with walk in whole blood donors and scheduled plasma and platelet donors. Petri net models are first proposed to precisely describe different blood collection processes, donor behaviors, their material/human resource requirements and relevant regulations. Petri net models are then enriched with quantitative modeling of donor arrivals, donor behaviors, activity times and resource capacity. Relevant performance indicators are defined. The resulting simulation models can be straightforwardly implemented with any simulation language. Numerical experiments are performed to show how the simulation models can be used to select, for different walk in donor arrival patterns, appropriate human resource planning and donor appointment strategies.  相似文献

We have previously shown in mice that antibodies can be induced to synthetic malaria peptides conjugated to mycobacterial antigens, such as purified protein derivative (PPD) or heat shock proteins (hsp), and given in the absence of adjuvants after a previous priming with bacille Calmette—Guérin (BCG). In the present study we investigated this model of immunization in the non-human primates, Saimiri sciureus monkeys. Monkeys primed with BCG subcutaneously and then immunized subcutaneously with the Plasmodium falciparum sporozoite (NANP)40 synthetic peptide conjugated to PPD or mycobacterial hsp of 65 or 70 kD, in the absence of adjuvants, produced anti-peptide and anti-sporozoite IgG antibodies. Interestingly, the carrier effect of the hsp of 70 kD for the induction of anti-(NANP)40 antibodies was also observed in the absence of a previous priming with BCG. These data suggest that such a vaccination strategy may be applied to humans.  相似文献
