Electrochemical activity determination of trypsin-like enzymes. III. Application to the assay of antithrombin III in aqueous solutions,human plasma and whole blood

The electrochemical activity determination of Antithrombin III is described using the electrogenic H-D-Phe-Pip-Arg-p-aminodiphenylamide, 2 HCl (S-2497) substrate. Linear calibration curves for the amperometric detection of the released free amine obtained in aqueous solutions agree with those obtained in human plasma and whole blood dilutions. With respect to that calibration relationship, Antithrombin III levels are evaluated in whole blood, i.e. in experimental conditions never met so far.     

Angiolymphoid hyperplasia with eosinophilia of the nail bed and bone: successful treatment with radiation therapy

Angiolymphoid hyperplasia with eosinophilia (ALHE) is a rare entity characterized by the presence of one or several papules or nodules in the skin. Histopathology of ALHE shows a marked proliferation of blood vessels with distinctive large endothelial cells and variable inflammatory infiltrates with eosinophils. We report a 32-year-old Caucasian woman with multiple nodules involving the skin, subcutaneous tissue and bone of the distal phalanx of the fingers that were treated successfully with orthovoltage radiation therapy (40 Gy/20 fractions) and without any side-effects after 9 years of follow-up.
