Preventive and therapeutic effects of air ionization in industrial plants

The article provides an analysis of data on the effects of continuous negative air ionization on the cardiovascular system in workers engaged in weaving and spinning industries. The authors indicate a possibility of applying the proposed technique in hypertensive disease prevention.

Erythromycin resistance in Borrelia burgdorferi

Susceptibility testing of laboratory strains and clinical isolates of Borrelia burgdorferi indicates that resistance to erythromycin is present in them. Evaluation of the MICs, minimal bactericidal concentrations, and kinetics of bacterial killing of erythromycin suggests that this resistance is increased by preexposure to the antibiotic, is dependent on inoculum size, and may be the result of selection of subpopulations of bacterial cells with increased resistance.     

Aspects of pathogenesis of "shock lung" in patients with massive blood loss and trauma in the early postresuscitation period

116 patients with massive blood loss and trauma have been studied in intensive care units. It has been established that the main reason for the onset of hypoxemia in "shock lung" is disturbed gas exchange in the lungs due to an expanded physiological dead space (VD/VT) and blood shunting in the lungs (QS/QT). Intravascular blood coagulation is one of the main reasons for the development and maintenance of systemic hypoperfusion in the lung tissue. Progressive increase in venous admixture during inhalation of 100% oxygen over a five-day treatment period is due to an increased number of still blood-supplied but already unventilated affected alveoli.     

The role of innate immunity system in the course of adenomyosis

The investigation of leukocytic elastase (LE) and alpha1-proteinase inhibitor (alpha1-PI) from patients with different stage adenomyosis and in control group was found activation innate immunity system in all the patients with adenomyosis. The degree of LE activity is a prevalence rate of adenomyosis. The degree of alpha1-PI activity is correlated with antiproteolytic potential that blocks the effects shown by LE. It can lead the prognose of disease and timely treatment.
