This article is an overview of the promotion function as a part of the ATM's marketing mix. It approaches various promotion decision areas from a managerial perspective, focusing upon some key components of promotion planning. Rather than provide specific operational or implementation details (how to write a brochure) it is more conceptual in nature and offers a framework for promotion planners. The article addresses promotion management, promotion objectives, analysis for promotion planning, the promotion mix, and addresses the benefits and limitations of some specific promotion tools available to the ATM manager. It treats ATMs as a service and reveals specific implications for promotion strategy dictated by services. The article also reports promotion tools employed by Alabama ATMs citing data from the Alabama study.  相似文献

Edentulous ridge augmentation has evolved from an attempt to control progressive atrophy of both denture-bearing bone and soft tissue. Preprosthetic surgery to reverse these undesirable conditions should only be attempted after other methods, such as proper denture construction, proper patient compliance, and patient management have been unsuccessful. Also a thorough evaluation by both a prosthodontist and an oral surgeon is required. Prosthodontically, the surgical procedure should produce the following features: (1) enlargement of the area of bony support, (2) improved contour of the ridge for denture stability, and (3) elimination of the displacing action of muscle attachments on the complete denture. Ideally we would like to combine all of these distinct features to arrive at the goal of optimum denture retention. The oral surgeon must also be aware of these principles, and in essence, determines the immediate post-surgical results. However, the oral surgeon is also limited by specific patient factors such as systemic conditions, oral health maintanence, and finances. He must recognize these and determine which surgical methods would give the best denture retention and patient service. It is in this context that the prosthodontist and oral surgeon must work together to facilitate total patient care.  相似文献

Because of their impact on human and veterinary health, there is considerable interest in understanding how Culicoides use olfactory cues in host location. The adequate chemical stimulus for sensilla located on the maxillary palps was determined for several species of female Culicoides. Electrophysiological studies identified and characterized the sensory neurons on Culicoides maxillary palps that responded to stimulation with low concentrations of CO2. The concentration response function in different background concentrations of CO2 was established for C. furens (Poey), C. stellifer (Coquillet) and C. mississippiensis Hoffman. Comparisons were made to previously studied CO2-sensitive neurons in mosquitoes. Understanding what sensory signals the host releases and how they are detected may lead to the development of strategies aimed at controlling these insects.  相似文献

Employing both microscopic and photometric methods the rheology of pathological red cell aggregation was studied in model experiments. Suspensions of washed human red blood cells in dextran solutions containing rising concentrations of dextrans (M.W. 40000, 70000, 110000, 250000, 500000) were used. At low concentrations (less than 500 mg-%) of high molecular weight dextrans (greater than 70000) red cell suspensions formed aggregates similar to the ones found in normal human blood. At higher concentrations, the aggregates were similar to those observed in pathological human blood. The aggregates were studied under the condition of stasis, slow flow and at shear rate of their hydrodynamic dispersion. Besides, the flow behavior of the dispersed cells at high shear rates was studied. We found: 1. In all samples the rate of spontaneous aggregate re-formation in stasis (following hydrodynamic desaggregation) rose with rising dextran concentration up to 5.0 g-%. 2. The shear resistance of the aggregates, as measured by the shear stress necessary to keep them dispersed, rose up to concentrations of 2.5g-%, but fell at higher concentrations. 3. Only with dextran of a molecular weight above 110000 coarse agglomerates could be produced at high concentrations. Loose elastic meshes were rapidly produced at high concentrations of Dx 70. 4. When subjected to steady state low shear (m sec-1) only the agglomerates, but not the meshes rapidly grew in size. Most of the aggregation kinetics recorded by photometry and microscopy evaded detection by viscometry.  相似文献

Responses of natural populations of biting Diptera were studied at Everglades National Park, Fla., to three levels (0, 3.0, and 41.1 mg/h) of 1-octen-3-ol (octenol), four levels (0, 20, 200, and 2,000 ml/min) of carbon dioxide (CO2), and their combinations. Catches of mosquitoes (Aedes taeniorhynchus (Wiedemann), Culex [Melanoconion]) spp., Cx. nigripalpus Theobald, and Wyeomyia spp.) and one tabanid (Diachlorus ferrugatus (F.)) were affected significantly by CO2 and octenol. Significantly greater numbers of all taxa were collected as the level of CO2 was increased. The 3.0-mg/h release rate of octenol alone resulted in increased trap catches relative to no bait for all taxa except Cx. (Melanoconion) spp., whereas the 41.1-mg/h release rate alone generally reduced trap catches relative to either no bait or 3.0 mg/h octenol. The effect of CO2 and octenol was additive for Cx. (Melanoconion) spp. and D. ferrugatus and synergistic for Ae. taeniorhynchus. Six octenol-supplemented CO2 treatments produced mixed results for Cx. nigripalpus.  相似文献

Nepetalactone, the primary component of catnip oil, was compared with the repellent N,N-diethyl-3-methylbenzamide (deet) for its ability to affect the host-seeking ability of Aedes aegypti (L.). A triple cage olfactometer was used to bioassay each substance and to assess its attraction inhibition (spatial repellent) attributes when combined with the following attractants: carbon dioxide, acetone, a blend of L-lactic acid and acetone, and human odors. Repellent tests were conducted with each substance against female Ae. aegypti, Anopheles albimanus Weidemann, and Anopheles quadrimaculatus Say. Catnip oil and deet were both weakly attractive to Ae. aegypti, catnip oil was the better spatial repellent, whereas deet was a more effective contact repellent in tests with all three species of mosquitoes.  相似文献

Nineteen children with human immunodeficiency virus (HIV) infection were treated with recombinant human gamma interferon (rIFN-gamma) (50 microg/m2 subcutaneously three times each week during weeks 1 through 12 and 100 microg/m2 subcutaneously three times each week during weeks 13 through 24) in a phase I/II clinical trial. All children continued to receive previously prescribed therapy with oral zidovudine or didanosine. Children were assessed clinically and with laboratory studies during 24 weeks of study treatment and for 12 weeks after completion of rIFN-gamma therapy. In general, rIFN-gamma therapy was well tolerated. There were two clinical or laboratory adverse events thought to be possibly or probably study drug associated. One child developed acute pancreatitis; another child developed granulocytopenia. Median CD4(+)-lymphocyte counts and plasma HIV RNA concentrations did not change significantly during therapy. In vitro neutrophil bactericidal activity against Staphylococcus aureus and superoxide production were not significantly affected by rIFN-gamma therapy. We conclude that rIFN-gamma therapy in HIV-infected children receiving single-agent antiretroviral therapy is safe and does not produce consistent changes in CD4(+)-lymphocyte count, plasma HIV RNA concentration, or in vitro neutrophil function.  相似文献

The role of mid-treatment monitoring dual-energy X-ray absorptiometry–bone mineral density (DXA-BMD) for bisphosphonate-treated patients with osteoporosis remains unsettled. A common reason for such monitoring is to encourage ongoing medication adherence. We sought to determine if a DXA-BMD treatment monitoring test was associated with improved medication adherence and whether improved adherence after a DXA-BMD treatment monitoring test was associated with subsequent reduction in fracture rates. Using linked administrative databases within Manitoba, Canada, we performed a retrospective cohort study of women starting and continuing antiresorptive therapy in whom a mid-treatment DXA-BMD monitoring test was performed. From the provincial pharmacy database, we estimated medication adherence by calculating annual medication possession ratio (MPR) and determining the change in MPR with respect to change (stable/decrease) in the DXA-BMD monitoring test, in addition to fracture rates before and after the test. The cohort comprised 3418 women, 90.7% treated with oral bisphosphonate, with pharmacy data for the 3 years before and after the mid-treatment DXA-BMD. Median (interquartile range) MPR was 0.84 (0.49–0.99) in the year before DXA-BMD and 0.84 (0.48–0.99) in the year after DXA-BMD (p = 0.37). Among those whose DXA-BMD declined, MPR in the prior year was 0.54 (0.04–0.92) but improved to 0.70 (0.31–0.92) in the year after DXA-BMD (p < 0.001). Among those whose DXA-BMD monitoring test was stable/improved, the fracture rate before the monitoring DXA-BMD was 10.1 per 1000 person-years and in those whose DXA-BMD monitoring test showed a decrease, the rate was 23.7 per 1000 person-years (p < 0.001). Despite improved adherence in those with DXA-BMD decline, the post DXA-BMD fracture rate was 22.4 per 1000 person-years versus 12.9 per 1000 person-years in those who had stable DXA-BMD (p < 0.001). A mid-treatment DXA-BMD reassessment strategy may be useful to focus attention upon adherence, but for optimal fracture outcomes, treatment adherence should be specifically addressed at the commencement of therapy. © 2021 American Society for Bone and Mineral Research (ASBMR).  相似文献
