Aim. To study any discriminative properties of SF-36 and QQL-EPM in stable and non-controlled moderate asthmatic patients. Methods. A total of 63 asthmatic patients were assessed regarding asthma symptoms, FEV1 % predicted value, PEF, ED visits and hospitalizations, QQL-EPM and SF-36 questionnaires. Results. QQL-EPM highlighted significance in all domains to distinguish stable from non-controlled patients (p = 0.0001) while SF-36 was only significant in 3 of its 7 domains (p = 0.009). Conclusion. The study showed that the specific quality of life questionnaire for asthma (QQL-EPM) demonstrates better discriminative properties that characterize asthma control when compared with the more generic SF-36 questionnaire. 相似文献
Background. Dermatophagoides pteronyssinus, Dermatophagoides farinae and Blomia tropicalis dust mites are among the most important agents of hypersensitivity reactions in human beings. However, a role of other mites in the etiology of these reactions has not yet been excluded.Objectives. To investigate the nature of the dust mite fauna and the presence of Der p 1 (allergen 1 of Dermatophagoides pteronyssinus) and Blo t 5 (allergen 5 of Blomia tropicalis) on beds used by individuals with different socioeconomic backgrounds in Salvador, a major Brazilian city and to investigate possible associations of mite frequencies and allergen levels with (a) season of the year, (b) housing characteristics, (c) bed cleaning behaviors that could affect mite densities, and (d) allergy history.Methods. Dust samples were collected from 459 beds of 101 residences from two groups with different socioeconomic levels (hereafter called wealthy and poor groups) in the city of Salvador, Brazil, for the identification of mite species and determination of Der p 1 and Blo t 5 levels. History of allergy was collected using the ISAAC phase I questionnaire.Results. Eighty nine percent of the beds analyzed harbored at least one mite species. B. tropicalis was found in 71.8%, D. pteronyssinus in 39.9%, Cheyletus sp. in 33.9%, and Gohieria fusca in 21.1% of the beds. B. tropicalis was found with a similar frequency in beds of the two socioeconomic groups; D. pteronyssinus was found more frequently in the beds of the wealthy than of the poor group, whereas the reverse was observed with G. fusca. The concentrations of Der p 1 and Blo t 5 allergens exceeded the cut-off for sensitization of 2 μg/g of dust in 94.0% and 69.3% of the wealthy and poor group beds, respectively. No associations were found between history of allergy and mite species or between history of allergy and the concentrations of mite allergens.Conclusions. The observation of B. tropicalis and D. pteronyssinus as the most frequently found mites is consistent with previous reports from tropical regions. The higher frequency of G. fusca in beds of individuals from the poor group than those from the wealthy group could be a consequence of different bed cleaning behaviors between the two groups. 相似文献
Introduction: It is well established that behavioral variant frontotemporal dementia can impair social and emotional function. However, there is no consensus regarding how Alzheimer’s disease can affect facial expression recognition. We aim to systematically review all the literature addressing this issue over the last 10 years.
Method: We conducted a search based on the Preferred Reporting Items for Systematic Reviews and Meta-Analyses (PRISMA). The search for literature was undertaken on 19 September 2017, using Pubmed, SciELO, BIREME, and Thomson Reuters Web of Science electronic databases. The key terms for the search were: Alzheimer’s disease, dementia, and facial expression recognition.
Results: We screened 173 articles, and 22 of them were selected. The most common methodology involved showing participants photographs of people expressing the six basic emotions—fear, anger, sadness, disgust, surprise, and happiness. Results were ambiguous. Among people with mild Alzheimer’s disease, happiness was easier to recognize than the other five basic emotions, with sadness and anger the most difficult to recognize. In addition, the intensity level of the emotions presented seems to be important, and facial expression recognition is related to specific cognitive capacities, including executive function and visuoperceptual abilities. Impairment in facial expression recognition does not appear to be a consistent neuropsychological finding in Alzheimer’s disease.
Conclusions: The lack of standardized assessment instruments and the heterogeneity of the methods and samples used across studies hamper comparisons. Future researches should investigate facial expression recognition through more ecological and standardized methods. 相似文献
To study the use of functional capacity (FC) level and duration of aromatase inhibitor (AI) therapy with adiposity parameters in women with breast cancer.
Patients and Methods
FC was evaluated through the Health Assessment Questionnaire, which was assessed by classification and divided into 3 groups: G1 = mild to moderate difficulty, G2 = moderate to severe disability, and G3 = severe or very severe disability. Body mass, height, and waist circumference (WC) were measured, and body mass index (BMI) was calculated. Bioelectrical impedance analysis was used to calculate body fat (BF) and fat-free mass. The women were divided into 2 time groups (T1 and T2), which were determined by the median months of AI use (T1 ≤ 29.5 and T2 > 29.5 months).
Results
Impaired FC and adiposity parameters were significantly positively correlated. In addition, physical exercise was significantly lower in women assessed as G2 and G3 compared to those assessed as G1. The effect of FC on BMI, BF, and WC was also verified, as was the effect of the duration of AI receipt on BMI and BF. Women at T1 had significantly greater functional disability, BMI, and BF values. In addition, although not statistically significant, women in T1 who were assessed as G3 presented higher BMI, WC, and BF values than those in T2.
Conclusion
Adiposity above the recommended parameters and impaired FC were associated with the shortest time of receipt of adjuvant endocrine therapy with AI. 相似文献
The antibody response against Leishmania (Leishmania) amazonensis crude antigen was measured through the indirect immunofluorescent assay (IFA) and the immunoenzymatic assay (ELISA) in 114 patients with cutaneous leishmaniasis (CL) in Brazil. Fifty-four patients were infected by Leishmania (Viannia) braziliensis, and 60 patients had L. (V.) guyanensis infection. Patients were comparable by age, sex, disease duration and the Montenegro skin test diameter. L. (V.) braziliensis-infected patients showed significant lower number of ulcerated lesions, greater ulcerated area and higher proportion of lymph node enlargement. Sensitivity of IFA was 79.6% (95% CI 66.1-88.9) and 71.7% (95% CI 58.4-82.2) for L. (V.) braziliensis and L. (V.) guyanensis-infected patients, respectively (P=0.324). Sensitivity of ELISA was 98.2% (95% CI 88.8-99.9) and 85.0% (95% CI 72.9-92.5) for L. (V.) braziliensis and L. (V.) guyanensis-infected patients, respectively (P=0.018). Significant differences were observed in the magnitude of the antibody response before treatment with higher levels detected in L. (V.) braziliensis-infected patients by both serologic techniques. Eighty-four patients had serologic evaluations before and 12 weeks after treatment with meglumine antimoniate, 20 mg/kg/day for 20 days. Significant lower optic density values were observed after treatment with both species independent of cure or failure. Our data showed that L. (V.) braziliensis induces a higher antibody response against L. (L.) amazonensis antigens than L. (V.) guyanensis and that down-modulation of the antibody response occurs shortly during disease evolution after treatment. Moreover the data support the use of ELISA as a better tool for detection of antibodies in CL. 相似文献
