This paper reports the composition of a new reference allelic ladder mixture for use with a multiplex DNA profiling system
consisting of six short tandem repeat loci. The loci included in this mixture are HUMTH01, D21S11, D18S51, D8S1179, HUMVWAF31/A,
HUMFIBRA/FGA and an amelogenin sex test. Sequence analysis of individual ladder alleles was carried out and allelic designations
made in accordance with the recommendations of the International Society of Forensic Haemogenetics (1992; 1994). A series
of rare alleles which increase the range of alleles previously reported were identified. By including some of the rare alleles
into the ladder marker system, we have significantly improved the ability to identify new alleles in unknown samples.

Six patients with upper cervical spine ossicles and Down syndrome from a study population of 184 are described. The average age was 20.6 years at the time of diagnosis. Three of the patients were involved in tumbling. Radiographic anatomy of the ossicles and the dens, as well as serial radiographs in three of the six patients, suggest that this represents an avulsion of the upper end of the dens rather than an occipital vertebrae, ossiculum terminale, or os odontoideum, as previously described. In a prospective study conducted over a 12-month period, 30 patients underwent double-contrast arthrography of the knee followed by arthroscopic study. An 80% correlation rate was found between results. Arthrography had a higher rate of accuracy (93%) than arthroscopy (84%) and had a 7% false-positive and 0% false-negative rate. A commonly overlooked arthrographic sign--the triple-S or stuck sail sign--was 91% accurate in the prediction of meniscal tears. The complementary nature of the two examinations is discussed. 相似文献

The relation of body fat distribution to plasma levels of glucose and insulin during an oral glucose tolerance test was examined in 355 Black and White school-age children. Both central and peripheral fat were similarly related to fasting, 30-min, and 1-h glucose. Unlike peripheral fat, central body fat was more strongly related to the 1-h insulin response (r = 0.35 vs 0.26); this association remained significant for central fat independent of peripheral fat (r = 0.18). The strong relation of central fat to insulin response was noted in both races and sexes but not in either sexually immature or relatively thin children. These findings indicate that, even in early life, a central body fat pattern relates positively to insulin response to glucose load. Thus, knowledge of body fat localization may help identify persons most susceptible to hyperinsulinemia in early life. 相似文献
