In the vertebrate body, a metameric structure is present along the anterior–posterior axis. Zebrafish tbx6−/− larvae, in which somite boundaries do not form during embryogenesis, were shown to exhibit abnormal skeletal morphology such as rib, neural arch and hemal arch. In this study, we investigated the role of somite patterning in the formation of anterior vertebrae and ribs in more detail. Using three-dimensional computed tomography scans, we found that anterior vertebrae including the Weberian apparatus were severely affected in tbx6−/− larvae. In addition, pleural ribs of tbx6 mutants exhibited severe defects in the initial ossification, extension of ossification, and formation of parapophyses. Two-colour staining revealed that bifurcation of ribs was caused by fusion or branching of ribs in tbx6−/−. The parapophyses in tbx6−/− juvenile fish showed irregular positioning to centra and abnormal attachment to ribs. Furthermore, we found that the ossification of the distal portion of ribs proceeded along myotome boundaries even in irregularly positioned myotome boundaries. These results provide evidence of the contribution of somite patterning to the formation of the Weberian apparatus and rib in zebrafish.  相似文献

Patients with systemic sclerosis (SSc) develop various vasculopathy-induced vascular disorders such as Raynaud’s phenomenon, abnormal nail-fold capillaries, persistent digital ischemia, digital ulcers (DU), and sometimes develop renal crisis and pulmonary artery hypertension (PAH), affecting prognosis. Earlobe crease (ELC), also known as Frank’s sign, is a wrinkle extending from the tragus to the outer border of the earlobe and is generally recognized as the sign of cardiovascular events. However, no previous study analyzed the association between ELC and SSc. In this study, we examined the prevalence and clinical characteristics of ELC in SSc patients. We analyzed 145 Japanese SSc patients and found that the prevalence of ELC in SSc patients was 23.4% (43/145), similar to that previously reported in the general population without SSc. Using univariate analysis, we found that SSc patients with ELC were characterized by old age, high incidence of DU, ILD and PAH, and high complication of coronary artery diseases (CAD) compared with SSc patients without ELC. In multivariate analysis, ELC was significantly associated with old age and incidence of DU. PAH tended to correlate with ELC without statistical significance. These results suggest that ELC may be associated with vascular disorders in SSc patients. This is the first report concerning the prevalence and clinical characteristics of ELC in patients with SSc. ELC is very easy to detect in clinical practice and helps physicians to identify SSc patients at risk of developing vascular disorders such as DU and PAH.  相似文献

Aims

To evaluate the significance of mast cell infiltration in interstitial cystitis (IC) by comparison with equally inflamed controls using a digital quantification technique.

Methods

Bladder biopsy specimens from 31 patients with Hunner type IC and 38 patients with non‐Hunner type IC were analyzed. Bladder biopsy specimens from 37 patients without IC, including 19 non‐specific chronic cystitis (“non‐IC cystitis”) specimens and 18 non‐inflamed bladder (“normal bladder”) specimens, were used as controls. Mast cell tryptase‐, CD3‐, CD20‐, and CD138‐immunoreactive cells were quantified using digital image analysis software to evaluate both mast cell and lymphoplasmacytic cell densities. Mast cell and lymphoplasmacytic cell densities were counted independently in the entire lamina propria and detrusor areas and compared among the four groups.

Results

In the lamina propria, there were no significant differences in mast cell and lymphoplasmacytic cell densities between Hunner type IC and non‐IC cystitis or between non‐Hunner type IC and normal bladder specimens. In the detrusor, the mast cell densities were not significantly different among the four groups. Mast cell density was correlated with lymphoplasmacytic cell density, but not with clinical parameters.

Conclusions

Mast cell density is not significantly different between IC specimens and non‐IC control specimens with a similar degree of background inflammation. The intensity of mast cell infiltration generally correlated with that of lymphoplasmacytic cells. We conclude that mast cell count is of no value in the differential diagnosis between IC and other etiologies.  相似文献

Immunoglobulin (IgM, IgA, and IgG) and albumin values were determined in 12 patients who had signs and symptoms of central nervous system involvement attributable to Behçet's disease. Only the cerebrospinal fluid IgM index, which was significantly elevated in patients with active neuro-Behçet's syndrome, was found to decrease when the neurologic manifestations of the disease had disappeared. This indicates that determination of this index may be of help in the evaluation of central nervous system disease activity in neuro-Behçet's syndrome.  相似文献

Coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) has become a global pandemic since its discovery in December 2019, and as the disease continues to evolve, varying complications associated with it continue to arise. In this regard, computed tomography has played an extremely important role in the diagnosis and evaluation of COVID-19 pneumonia and its complications. We encountered a case of a male patient with neurofibromatosis (type I) who developed concurrent pneumothorax and pleural effusion during his recovery period from severe COVID-19 pneumonia. Pulmonary fibrosis and emphysema were also confirmed. Furthermore, an eosinophil pleural effusion appeared and was prolonged during the healing process of COVID-19. This clinical presentation suggests that fibrosis and emphysema formation due to neurofibromatosis may have caused pneumothorax and pleural effusion.  相似文献
