The objective of this study was to investigate the prognostic significance of p53, and proliferative cell nuclear antigen (PCNA) in laryngeal squamous cell carcinoma (LSCC). Sixty pathologic specimens from the patients with LSCC were examined for the expression of the p53 and PCNA, with complete follow-up data. Sixty-three percent of the cases displayed nuclear p53 overexpression. There was a correlation between p53 overexpression and histological grades (p = 0.03), and localization site (p = 0.05). Median of PCNA index was 42.2 (range 5.9 to 85.2). There was no difference between the p53 overexpression group and the normal group in proliferative activity determined by PCNA (p = 0.73). In univariate analyses, localization site, grade, stage, invasion pattern, lymph node status, were significant factors in estimating disease free survival (DFS). Grade was the most important factor affecting recurrence (p = 0.002). In multivariate analyses, grade was the only significant predictor for DFS (p = 0.001). Grade (p = 0.001) and invasion pattern (p = 0.03) were found to be significant predictors of overall survival. In conclusion, the histological grade was the most reliable important prognostic factor. Further studies are necessary to facilitate understanding of the mechanisms of laryngeal carcinogenesis. 相似文献

Prospective cohort studies on breast cancer risk among premenopausal women and insulin-like growth factor I (IGF-I) concentrations have so far included only few cases, and have shown inconsistent relative risk estimates. We pooled 220 cases of breast cancer diagnosed before age 50, and 434 control subjects, from three prospective studies in New York (USA), Ume? (Northern Sweden) and Milan (Italy), and we measured IGF-I and insulin-like growth factor binding protein 3 (IGFBP-3) with common enzyme-linked immunosorbent assays. Overall, IGF-I and IGFBP-3 measurements obtained by the common method showed a positive but not significant relationship with breast cancer risk (odds ratios (ORs) 0.90 [95% confidence intervals (95% CI) 0.50-1.62], 1.63 [0.89-2.97], 1.46 [0.78-2.73] and 1.41 [0.75-2.63] for quintiles of IGF-I, and ORs 0.98 [0.54-1.75], 1.06 [0.59-1.91], 1.04 [0.58-1.87] and 1.77 [0.97-3.24] for quintiles of IGFBP-3). BackgroundThis study investigated the relationship between coronary collateral circulation (CCC) and intracoronary thrombus burden in patients undergoing primary percutaneous coronary intervention for ST-segment elevation myocardial infarction (STEMI). CCC and thrombus burden are predictive of clinical outcomes in patients with STEMI.MethodsPatients with STEMI undergoing primary percutaneous coronary intervention were enrolled (n = 172). CCC was graded according to the Cohen–Rentrop classification. Patients were classified as insufficient (grade 0 or 1, n = 134) or well-developed (grade 2 or 3; n = 38) CCC. The Thrombolysis in Myocardial Infarction scale was used to evaluate intra-coronary thrombus burden. The low-thrombus-burden group comprised those with grades 0 to 2, and the high-thrombus-burden group comprised those with grades 3 or 4.ResultsRight coronary artery infarcts had a 13.830-fold higher chance of having well-developed CCC than did left anterior descending artery infarcts (P < .001). Circumflex artery infarcts had a 7.904-fold higher chance of well-developed CCC than did left anterior descending artery infarcts (P = .016). High thrombus burden was associated with a 4.393-fold higher chance for well-developed CCC than was low thrombus burden (P = .030). Low albumin levels were related to a greater chance of having well-developed CCC (P = .046).ConclusionPatients with well-developed CCC have higher thrombus burden than do those with insufficient CCC. Because well-developed CCC is an indicator of more severe underlying lesions, we speculate that patients with severe lesions are more prone to experience more complicated STEMI with high thrombus burden. 相似文献

The aim of the present study was to perform clinical, biochemical, and radiological evaluation of the efficacy of mesenchymal stem cells derived from Wharton jelly (WJ) present within the human umbilical cord in the treatment of knee osteoarthritis. Between 2018 and 2019, 10 patients with knee osteoarthritis for whom the conservative treatment was not beneficial were included in the study. Patients were clinically, radiologically, and biochemically evaluated before treatment initiation. Thereafter, the patients were intra-articularly injected using a solution containing 1 × 108 WJ-derived MSCs. Evaluations were performed on day 21 (V1) and 42 (V2) and month 3 (V3), 6 (V4), and 12 (V5) after the procedure. At 1-year post-injection, visual analogue scale, Western Ontario and McMaster Universities Osteoarthritis Index, and Lequesne scores of patients were lower than those observed during the initial evaluation, whereas the mean 36-Item Short Form Health Survey score was higher. Cartilage thicknesses were found to be increased in all regions except in the medial femur, medial posterior femur, lateral posterior femur, and lateral posterior tibia regions in magnetic resonance imaging. A significant increase was observed in tumor necrosis factor-alpha, interleukin-1β, adiponectin, resistin, and interleukin-6 levels compared with pre-injection values. The leptin levels at 6-month and 1-year controls were lower than the pre-injection levels, and the decrease observed at 6 months was significant. In patients with knee osteoarthritis, intra-articular WJ-derived MSC injection causes significant pain reduction, satisfactory functional improvement, and increased patient satisfaction following a 1-year follow-up. Background:This study aims to assess the prevalence of preoperative and postoperative nutritional deficiencies and associated factors in patients who are eligible for laparoscopic sleeve gastrectomy.Methods:Patients who underwent primary laparoscopic sleeve gastrectomy between December 2018 and April 2020 were included in the study. All patients were screened by detailed laboratory tests pre- and post-laparoscopic sleeve gastrectomy 6th and 12th months. Patients’ data, which were recorded prospectively, were analyzed retrospectively.Results:A total of 228 patients were included in the study. The mean age was 39 ± 11.5 (60% female), and the mean body mass index was 41.2 ± 6.3 kg/m2. In the preoperative period, anemia was detected in 20 female patients (9%), low ferritin levels were detected in 25%, B12 and folic acid deficiencies were detected in 2.6% and 12.3%, respectively, and vitamin D deficiency was detected in 76% of the patients. During the postoperative follow-up, 77% of the patients received multivitamin supplements regularly. Mean body mass index regressed to 27.1 ± 4.2 kg/m2 in the first year. Incidence of anemia was found at 4.8%, low ferritin levels were 14%, folate deficiency was 5.3%, B12 deficiency was 5.3%, and vitamin D deficiency was 25% in the 12th month. Vitamin A, zinc, biotin, and thiamine deficiencies were 8.8%, 6.6%, 11%, and 2.2% in the 12th month, respectively.Conclusion:In the preoperative period, we detected significant deficiencies in some vitamins. The incidence of de novo vitamin deficiency during post-laparoscopic sleeve gastrectomy follow-up was low. Regular multivitamin–multimineral use may have an effect on this. 相似文献

The aim of this study was to examine the effect of chronotype on addictive eating behavior and BMI in university students. A questionnaire on their sociodemographic characteristics and eating habits, as well as the three-factor eating questionnaire (TFEQ) and the morningness-eveningness questionnaire (MEQ), were given to students at Üsküdar University. Data were analyzed with IBM SPSS 26.0. This study included a total of 850 students, 46.8% of whom were male and 53.2% were female. The mean BMI was 22.94 ± 3.30 kg/m2. As the BMI values of students increased, there was a decrease of 25.6% in the TFEQ scores, regardless of gender (s = −0.256; p < 0.001), and an increase of 10.6% in their chronotype scores, meaning that the students tended to be morning types (s = 0.106; p < 0.01). A significantly negative, very weak correlation was found between the students’ TFEQ and MEQ scores (s = −0.123; p < 0.001). The students’ BMI (p < 0.01) and TFEQ scores (p < 0.001) were affected by their MEQ scores in a statistically significant way. It was found that each 1-point increase in the MEQ score led to a 4.0% increase in the BMI score and a 15.8% decrease in the TFEQ score. It was observed that the morning-type students tended to be obese in terms of their BMI, and these students demonstrated fewer addictive eating behaviors. 相似文献

It is aimed to investigate the central antinociceptive effect of protocatechuic acid and the involvement of stimulation of opioidergic, serotonin 5-HT2A/2C, α2-adrenergic and muscarinic receptors in protocatechuic acid-induced central analgesia in mice. Time-dependent antinociceptive effects of protocatechuic acid at the oral doses of 75, 150 and 300?mg/kg were tested in hot-plate (integrated supraspinal response) and tail-immersion (spinal reflex) tests in mice. To investigate the mechanisms of action; the mice administered 300?mg/kg protocatechuic acid (p.o.) were pre-treated with non-specific opioid antagonist naloxone (5?mg/kg, i.p.), serotonin 5-HT2A/2C receptor antagonist ketanserin (1?mg/kg, i.p.), α2-adrenoceptor antagonist yohimbine (1?mg/kg, i.p.) and non-specific muscarinic antagonist atropine (5?mg/kg, i.p.), respectively. The antinociceptive effect of protocatechuic acid was observed at the doses of 75, 150 and 300?mg/kg in tail-immersion test, at the doses of 150 and 300?mg/kg in hot-plate test at different time interval. The enhancement in the latency of protocatechuic acid-induced response to thermal stimuli was antagonized by yohimbine, naloxone and atropine in tail-immersion test, while it was antagonized only by yohimbine and naloxone pretreatments in hot-plate test. These results indicated that protocatechuic acid has the central antinociceptive action that is probably organized by spinal mediated cholinergic and opiodiergic, also spinal and supraspinal mediated noradrenergic modulation. However, further studies are required to understand how protocatechuic acid organizes the interactions of these modulatory systems. As a whole, these findings reinforce that protocatechuic acid is a potential agent that might be used for pain relief. Additionally, the clarification of the effect and mechanisms of action of protocatechuic acid will contribute to new therapeutic approaches and provide guidance for new drug development studies. 相似文献
