The water–oil interface is an environment that is often found in many contexts of the natural sciences and technological arenas. This interface has always been considered a special environment as it is rich in different phenomena, thus stimulating numerous studies aimed at understanding the abundance of physico-chemical problems that occur there. The intense research activity and the intriguing results that emerged from these investigations have inspired scientists to consider the water–oil interface even as a suitable setting for bottom-up nanofabrication processes, such as molecular self-assembly, or fabrication of nanofilms or nano-devices. On the other hand, biphasic liquid separation is a key enabling technology in many applications, including water treatment for environmental problems. Here we show for the first time an instant nanofabrication strategy of a thin film of biopolymer at the water–oil interface. The polymer film is fabricated in situ, simply by injecting a drop of polymer solution at the interface. Furthermore, we demonstrate that with an appropriate multiple drop delivery it is also possible to quickly produce a large area film (up to 150 cm2). The film inherently separates the two liquids, thus forming a separation layer between them and remains stable at the interface for a long time. Furthermore, we demonstrate the fabrication with different oils, thus suggesting potential exploitation in different fields (e.g. food, pollution, biotechnology). We believe that the new strategy fabrication could inspire different uses and promote applications among the many scenarios already explored or to be studied in the future at this special interface environment.

Green route is an economic, facile and eco-friendly method, employed for the synthesis of various types of nanoparticles, having it as a starting point biological entity, especially as a plant extract. The present study aims to obtain silver nanoparticles (AgNPs) starting from an ethanolic extract of Populi gemmae (Pg), by adjusting the reaction parameters. The morphological and structural characterization exhibited that both the reaction temperature and the concentration of metal salt, contributes to the obtaining of Pg-AgNPs with adjustable size and shape. The newly synthesized nanoparticles exhibited a good antibacterial activity on Gram-positive bacteria as well as antifungal activity. The in vitro antiproliferative activity of Pg-AgNPs was assessed on two different cancer cell lines (breast cancer cells—MCF7 and lung carcinoma epithelial cells—A549). Results have shown that the green-synthetized Pg-AgNPs_S2 (obtained at 60 °C, using AgNO3 of 5 M) induced a substantial decrease in tumor cell viability in a dose-dependent manner with an IC50 ranging from 5.03 to 5.07 µg/mL on A549 cell line and 3.24 to 4.93 µg/mL on MCF7 cell line.  相似文献

BackgroundLung cancer treatment decisions are typically made among clinical experts in a multidisciplinary tumour board (MTB) based on clinical data and guidelines. The rise of artificial intelligence and cultural shifts towards patient autonomy are changing the nature of clinical decision‐making towards personalized treatments. This can be supported by clinical decision support systems (CDSSs) that generate personalized treatment information as a basis for shared decision‐making (SDM). Little is known about lung cancer patients'' treatment decisions and the potential for SDM supported by CDSSs. The aim of this study is to understand to what extent SDM is done in current practice and what clinicians need to improve it.ObjectiveTo explore (1) the extent to which patient preferences are taken into consideration in non‐small‐cell lung cancer (NSCLC) treatment decisions; (2) clinician perspectives on using CDSSs to support SDM.DesignMixed methods study consisting of a retrospective cohort study on patient deviation from MTB advice and reasons for deviation, qualitative interviews with lung cancer specialists and observations of MTB discussions and patient consultations.Setting and ParticipantsNSCLC patients (N = 257) treated at a single radiotherapy clinic and nine lung cancer specialists from six Dutch clinics.ResultsWe found a 10.9% (n = 28) deviation rate from MTB advice; 50% (n = 14) were due to patient preference, of which 85.7% (n = 12) chose a less intensive treatment than MTB advice. Current MTB recommendations are based on clinician experience, guidelines and patients'' performance status. Most specialists (n = 7) were receptive towards CDSSs but cited barriers, such as lack of trust, lack of validation studies and time. CDSSs were considered valuable during MTB discussions rather than in consultations.ConclusionLung cancer decisions are heavily influenced by clinical guidelines and experience, yet many patients prefer less intensive treatments. CDSSs can support SDM by presenting the harms and benefits of different treatment options rather than giving single treatment advice. External validation of CDSSs should be prioritized.Patient or Public ContributionThis study did not involve patients or the public explicitly; however, the study design was informed by prior interviews with volunteers of a cancer patient advocacy group. We report a case of a prepubertal girl with juvenile primary hypothyroidism presenting as ovarian cysts and precocious puberty. The 7-year-old female was referred to our clinic because of a pelvic/abdominal mass and vaginal bleeding. Besides these findings, on physical examination we noticed the thyroid gland globally increased and the presence of secondary sexual characteristics. Based upon the clinical profile and investigations, the patient was diagnosed with juvenile primary hypothyroidism due to autoimmune thyroiditis. The cysts and precocious puberty resolved spontaneously after the simple replacement of thyroid hormone. It is important to bear in mind hypothyroidism in cases of girls presenting ovarian cysts and precocious puberty in order to avoid unnecessary surgery on the ovaries.  相似文献

Objective: Our aim is to evaluate the capacity of intrapartum translabial ultrasound (ITU) with pushing in the prediction of difficulty of fetal extraction in vacuum assisted deliveries. Prospective, observational study performed (2/2015–8/2015) on 75 nulliparous women, ≥37 weeks with singleton pregnancies at full dilatation who had ITU-with-pushing performed, previous to vacuum-placement for fetal extraction. Working on the translabial sagittal-plane, we assessed: Angle-Progression (AoP), Progression-Distance (PD) and Head-Direction (HD); in the axial plane we evaluated: Midline-Angle (MLA) and Head-Perineum-Distance (HPD). Vacuum extractions were classified as easy-difficulty (ED) (≤3 vacuum-pulls), difficult-unsuccessful (DD) (>3 vacuum-pulls). We did not assess occipito-posterior-presentations.

Results: Seventy nulliparous were studied (44-ED,26-DD). We observed no differences in obstetric, neonatal or intrapartum characteristics between the two study groups, with the following exceptions: newborn weight (3272?±?438?g versus 3540?±?372?g; p?=?0.011) and number of vacuum-pulls (1.4-ED-vs-4.4-DD; p?<?0.0005). AoP-pushing was 143.9°?±?14.6° in ED and 115.1°±?12.9° in DD (p?<?0.0005); Head-Up was 79.5% versus 38.4% (p?<?0.0005); PD-Pushing was 42.7?±?11.3?mm versus 30.4?±?9.8?mm (p?<?0.0005); MLA-Pushing was 27.6°±?26.6° versus 57.5°±26.5°(p=0.025); HPD-Pushing was 40.8?±?10.0?mm versus 47.4?±?10.9?mm (p?=?0.039).

Conclusion: We identified that the presence of an AoP-Pushing?>?128° predicts an Easy-Vacuum-Delivery (≤3 Vacuum-Pulls) in >85% of cases (Sen 80%–FPR 9.3%).  相似文献

The development of new orally dispersible tablets containing amlodipine (AML) inclusion complexes in hydroxypropyl-β-cyclodextrin (HP-β-CD) and in methyl-β-cyclodextrin (Me-β-CD) was studied. The methods of obtaining amlodipine and the physical and chemical properties of the inclusion complexes using the two cyclodextrins was investigated separately. Solid inclusion complexes were obtained by three methods: kneading, coprecipitation, and lyophilization, at a molar ratio of 1:1. For comparison, a physical mixture in the same molar ratio was prepared. The aim of the complexation process was to improve the drug solubility. As the lyophilization method leads to a complete inclusion of the drug in the guest molecule cavity, for both used cyclodextrins, these types of compounds were selected as active ingredients for the design of orally dispersible tablets. Subsequently, the formulation of the orodispersible tablets containing AML-HP-β-CD and AML-Me-β-CD inclusion complexes and quality parameters of the final formulation were evaluated. The results prove that F1 and F4 formulations, based on silicified microcrystalline cellulose, which contains insignificant proportions of very small or very large particles, had the lowest moisture degree (3.52% for F1 and 4.03% for F4). All of these demonstrate their porous structure, which led to good flowability and compressibility performances. F1 and F4 formulations were found to be better to manufacture orally dispersible tablets.  相似文献

Grape pomace and berries represent natural sources of phytochemicals that can increase the quality of life of consumers by contributing to the prevention of chronic diseases; thus, the development of a dietary supplement was necessary. The raw material (r.m.) used for the development of the dietary supplement consisted of dried and powdered bilberries (Vaccinium myrtillus L.), red currants (Ribes rubrum L.), and red fermented pomaces (Vitis vinifera L.) from Feteasca Neagra and Cabernet Sauvignon cultivars. The particle size distribution, powder flow, total phenolic content (TPC), HPLC-DAD phenolic profile assessment, and radical scavenging assay (RSA) were employed for the analysis of the raw material. After encapsulation, the average mass and uniformity of mass, the disintegration, and the uniformity of content for the obtained capsules were performed to obtain a high-quality dietary supplement. All the assays performed complied to the compendial requirements and the TPC was determined at 9.07 ± 0.25 mg gallic acid equivalents/g r.m. and RSA at 48.32 ± 0.74%. The highest quantities of phenolic compounds determined were 333.7 ± 0.50 µg/g r.m. for chlorogenic acid, followed by rutin, ferulic acid, and (+)-catechin with 198.9 ± 1.60 µg/g r.m., 179.8 ± 0.90 µg/g r.m. and 118.7 ± 0.75 µg/g r.m., respectively. The results of this study can be used for the manufacturing and assessing of pilot scale-up capsule batches and thinking of quality assurance, we recommend that the industrial batch extracts should be standardized in polyphenols, and the manufacturing process should be validated.  相似文献
