Effects of the MAO-A-inhibitor brofaromine (BRO), 10 mg/kg po after repeated (twice daily for 14 days) administration on the spontaneous behavior (exploratory and basal locomotor activities) and the exploratory activity modified by methoxamine, clonidine and d-amphetamine in male Wistar rats were studied in both light and dark phases of a diurnal cycle (L: 0700-1900 h). After single administration BRO in the light phase had no effects. In the dark phase BRO decreased the exploration (62% of control, p less than 0.01), increased the clonidine-evoked hypoactivity and amphetamine-evoked hyperactivity. The L-D differences occurred also after repeated administration. BRO in the light phase did not influence the exploration, decreased basal locomotor activity, did not change methoxamine and clonidine action and potentiated the action of amphetamine. In the dark phase, however, it did not influence the exploration and basal locomotor activity, intensified the methoxamine effect, and did not change the clonidine and amphetamine actions. The results demonstrate that the effects of BRO on behavior in rats: 1) differ from the effects caused by other antidepressants which are not MAO inhibitors; 2) are phase-dependent after both single and repeated administration.  相似文献

A new range of stand magnifiers has been released by the COIL company in the United Kingdom. Examination of these magnifiers reveals that they fail to deliver the rated magnifications labelled prominently on the appliances, as a result of the manufacturer's conformance with the requirements of the German DIN standard and the use of back vertex power (F'v) rather than equivalent dioptric power (Fm) of the magnifier. In this study we provide information on the optometric parameters of these new stand magnifiers that will assist the more accurate specification of improvements in vision expected from their use.  相似文献

Summary A case of bilateral congenital pseudarthrosis of the clavicle in a baby boy is described. The patient is fully asymptomatic, and no functional impairment is present. This is probably only the seventh case described of this rare congenital anomaly.  相似文献

Regional effects of craniotomy on cerebral circulation and metabolism, such as regional cerebral blood flow (rCBF), regional cerebral oxygen consumption (rCMRO2), regional oxygen extraction fraction (rOEF), and regional cerebral blood volume (rCBV) were examined by a PET (positron emission tomography) study concerning surgery that was performed on unruptured aneurysm patients. Eight patients with intracranial un-ruptured aneurysms were studied pre- and post-operatively by the 15O labelled-gas steady-state method, using HEADTOME-III. All patients underwent aneurysmal surgery performed by the transsylvian approach. There was a significant increase in the mean OEF values taken from the whole-brains of 8 patients, but there was not a significant change in CBF, CMRO2 or CBV. The increase in OEF was caused by decrease of O2 content, which was caused by post-operative decrease in the Hb value. So, this OEF increase was not the direct effect of craniotomy. In 2 patients, the rCBF and rCMRO2, in the fronto-temporal region (where craniotomy was performed) increased post-operatively. This regional effect suggests transient reactive hyperemia following compressive ischemia during the operative procedure, and metabolic demands for recovery of brain function. In 2 other patients, who had relatively low rCBFs during the pre-operative study, rCBF and rCMRO2 in the bi-frontal region had decreased more at the post-operative study. This change appears to have been caused by removal of cerebrospinal fluid and depression of the frontal lobe. From this study, it becomes evident that the regional effect of craniotomy on cerebral circulation and metabolism is not so great, when adequate microsurgical techniques are used.  相似文献

An ultrasound contrast agent which survives transit through the pulmonary circulation after injection into a peripheral vein can also be used for the demonstration of flow characteristics in the peripheral organs. Such a substance (SH U 508 A, Schering AG, Berlin) was tested in the Gynecological Department of the University of Marburg for its suitability for enhancing color-coded Doppler signals in mammary diagnosis in a group of ten women with breast tumors. The observations made are compared with the histologically confirmed diagnoses. The very distinct enhancement of the color-coded Doppler signals allows reliable demonstration of the vascularization characteristics, not only of the malignant, but also of all benign solid tumors examined. Color signals were even recorded from normal mammary tissue, which means that the demonstration of perfusion can no longer be used on its own as a diagnostic criterion. Observation of the characteristics of the blood supply to a tumor might, on the other hand, be an advantage, not only in respect of tumor typing, but also as regards the prognosis of a tumor. In this connection, the registration of the arrival, retention and wash-out phases specific to a contrast agent appears to furnish particularly interesting information about the growth dynamics of a tumor.  相似文献

SUMMARY. Samples from 1828 donations were screened for anti-HBc at seven sites in the UK using kits supplied by 10 manufacturers. Only 10 (0.55%) donations were considered to have true anti-HBc reactivity and these were detected by all 10 kits. Additional markers of HBV infection were found in nine of these 10 donations. Additional reactives were found by all kits, the number ranging from 1 to 43.
In the four more specific kits, the 10 true reactives were clearly distinguished from the 'false reactives' by the strength of the reaction. It is concluded that the reliance on a single ELISA test for anti-HBc diagnosis is unwise. The use of a second test known to be more specific than the screening ELISA is recommended.  相似文献

In the present study, we examined the effect of CsA on the in vitro production of Ig and on the in vitro production of molecules known to have B-cell growth and differentiation activities, such as IL-6 and sCD23. For the purpose of this study, we developed an experimental In vitro system closely resembling an In vivo model of ongoing B-cell activation. Pre-activated B cells proliferated and produced IgM optimally when they were re-cultured in the presence of IL-2/IL-6. CsA down-regulated the IL-2/IL-6-induced proliferative responses of pre activated B cells by at least 50%., but it up-regulated IgM production in the same experiments. This up regulating effect was not cytokine-related since it was also seen when cells were re-cultured in the absence of any cytokines. Optimal release of sCD23 was observed when SAC-pre-activated B cells were re cultured in the presence of IL-4 or IL-4 plus IL-2 and CsA up-regulated significantly the release of this molecule in these cultures. Finally, CsA was shown to inhibit PHA-induced cell proliferation of PBMC and to up-rcgulate IL-6 production in the same cultures. We conclude that CsA can amplify in vitro both the production of Ig and the release of sCD23 by pre activated B cells. This finding, in combination with the CsA-induced up-regulation of lectin-induced IL-6 production, may have clinical implications in disease states with an ongoing immune activation, where prolonged administration of CsA might be anticipated.  相似文献
