Beh?et's syndrome. Report of the first case in Cuba

This paper deal with the case of a patient undergoing Beh?et's disease, with ulcerous lesions in the oral cavity and scrotum. A brief review of this entity, not yet reported in our country, is carried out. Value of immunomodulating therapy (interferon and levamisole) in the elongation of disease relapses is pointed out.     

Treatment of cefazolin in 45 cases of urinary tract infections.

We have treated 45 cases of urinary tract infection with cefazolin (i.m.) and cure was achieved in 35 (77.77%). 26 of the 28 patients (92.85%) with acute cystitis who received 250 mg every 12 h for 6-10 days were cured. 17 patients with pyelonephritis received 500 mg every 12 h during 10-14 days and therapeutical success was achieved in 9 of them (52.94%). Laboratory control was carried out at the initiation of therapy, at the end, and 1 month after therapy. Tolerance to injections of cefazolin was considered good and only in one case appeared a mild eosinophia.     

Stellate cells and their axonal patterns in the central nucleus of the inferior colliculus of the cat (Felis domesticus)

Stellate cells (Stc) in the central nucleus of the inferior colliculus of the cat are divided according to cell body size and shape, dendritic branching pattern and axonal arborization into large, medium-size and small categories. Each of these were divided in different cell types. Three types of large Stc, six types of medium sized Stc and one type of small Stc were described. All of these cell types differ from each other in their morphological characteristics. Stc contribute to the neuropil organization of the central nucleus with numerous axonal collaterals which differ in their form and extension. Large and medium-sized Stc could be projecting neurons with a system of local axonal collaterals while the small Stc is considered a Golgi II type neuron. The probable synaptic relationships between Stc and disc-shaped neurons as well as between the different types of Stc are described. The mode of this probable synaptic arrangement suggests that another level of organization exist in the central nucleus, superimposed to the anatomically defined fibrodendritic laminae.     

Age-related changes of norepinephrine content in kidneys of spontaneously hypertensive and Wistar-Kyoto rats

Renal norepinephrine (NE) content was determined during the development of spontaneously hypertensive rats (SHR) and age-matched Wistar-Kyoto (WKY) rats in an attempt to correlate biochemical changes with the reported functional changes occurring in hypertension development in the SHR. In contrast to WKY rats, in which the levels of NE remained relatively constant with age, renal NE content in the SHR was highest at the 4th week of age, decreasing transiently during the 5th, 6th, and 7th weeks, and then again reaching a plateau during the 8th week. The fall in NE content in the kidney is associated with a rise in blood pressure with age in SHR and suggests a relationship between NE levels and hypertension.
