This study evaluated the bond strength of a light- and self-cured adhesive system to different intraradicular dentin areas (cervical, middle and apical thirds). Twenty single-rooted teeth were instrumented and their roots were prepared to receive a #2 translucent fiber post (Light Post). The root canals were irrigated with 0.5% sodium hypochlorite for one minute, rinsed with water and dried using paper tips. The teeth were divided into two groups (n=10): Single Bond [SB] (light-cured) and Scotchbond Multi-Purpose Plus [SBMP] (self-cured). To avoid polymerization of the materials through the root lateral walls, the teeth were placed in a silicone mold and the adhesives applied with a thin microbrush according to manufacturer's instructions. The resin cement, Rely X ARC, was inserted into the root canals using Lentulo burs. The post was then placed and the light-curing procedure was carried out for 40 seconds (+/-500 mW/cm2). The roots were kept in a 100% relative moisture environment for 24 hours and stored in distilled water for an additional 24 hours. Each root was perpendicularly sectioned into 1-mm thick sections, resulting in approximately four slices per region. Dumbbell-shaped slices were obtained by trimming the proximal surfaces of each slice using a diamond bur until it touched the post. The bonded area was calculated, slices were attached to a special device and submitted to microtensile testing at 1 mm/minute crosshead speed. Data were analyzed using ANOVA and Tukey's test. The mean bond strength values (MPa) were: SBMP: cervical=10.8a, middle=7.9b%, apical=7.1bc; SB: cervical=8.1b, middle=6.0c, apical=6.9b. Significant differences were found between adhesive systems only for the cervical third. The cervical region showed higher mean bond strength values than the middle and apical regions (p<0.0001).  相似文献

This study determined the presence of mutans streptococci and Candida spp. in supragingival dental plaque and infected dentine of caries-free children, with early childhood caries and caries. Pooled samples of dental plaque and infected dentine were collected from 56 children aged 1-5 years, which were divided into 3 groups: early childhood caries (ECC); caries and caries-free. Infected dentine was collected in ECC and caries groups to compare the frequency of these microorganisms in the collected sites. The samples were inoculated in SB20 and SA medium, for mutans streptococci and Candida spp., respectively, and incubated at 37 degrees C for 48 h. Colony growth was verified and the identification was performed by biochemical tests and CHROMagar Candida. Fisher's test or chi-square (chi(2)) were applied (p=0.05). The more prevalent species were S. mutans and Candida albicans in ECC (85.4% and 60.4%, respectively), independently of the sample site. S. mutans only was significantly associated with carious teeth, whether in early childhood caries or not. However, the frequency of C. albicans in ECC was higher when compared to caries and caries-free groups. There is a significant association between the presence of C. albicans and early childhood caries.  相似文献

During the cementation of metallic restorations, the polymerization of dual-curing resin cements depends exclusively on chemical activation. This study evaluated the influence of chemical activation compared with dual-curing (chemical and light activation), on the hardness of four dual-curing resin cements. In a darkened environment, equal weight proportions of base and catalyst pastes of the cements Scotchbond Resin Cement, Variolink II, Enforce and Panavia F were mixed and inserted into moulds with cavities of 4 mm in diameter and 2 mm in height. Subsequently, the cements were: 1) not exposed to light (chemical activation = self-cured groups) or 2) photoactivated (dual-curing = dual-cured groups). The Vickers hardness number was measured at 1 hour, 24 hours and 7 days after the start time of cements' spatulation. For all the cements, the hardness values of self-cured groups were lower than those of the respective dual-cured groups at 1 hour and 24 hours. At 7 days, this behavior continued for Variolink II and Panavia F, whilst for Scotchbond Resin Cement and Enforce there was no statistical difference between the two activation modes. All cements showed a significant increase in their hardness values from 1 hour to 7 days for both activation modes. Of the self-cured groups, Scotchbond Resin Cement and Variolink II presented the highest and the lowest hardness values, respectively, for all three times tested. Within the limitations of this study, up to the time of 24 h, chemical activation alone was unable to promote similar hardness as to that obtained with dual-curing.  相似文献

A four-year prospective evaluation of the use of nonresorbable, particulate hydroxylapatite (HA) to augment deficient alveolar ridges was performed. The material was used alone and in combination with finely crushed autogenous cancellous bone. Implants were delivered subperiosteally by syringe injection, usually using local anesthesia for Class I to Class III ridges and general anesthesia for Class III and Class IV ridges. The improved ridge height and width were stable. Postoperative resorption with significant loss of ridge height, frequently seen with rib and iliac crest onlayed grafts, was not observed with HA augmentation. Permanent denture construction began as early as three weeks postoperatively and by four to six weeks if HA was combined with autogenous cancellous bone. It was possible to place mandibular staple implants simultaneously or following HA augmentation. Visor osteotomy techniques were improved by use of HA to produce a wider, more convex stable ridge. Although skin, mucosa, or dermal vestibuloplasties were performed as early as three months postoperatively in a small number of patients, there appeared to be a lesser need for vestibuloplasty after HA augmentation than after onlay bone grafting. In addition, prosthodontists performed fewer denture relines after HA augmentation than after onlay bone grafts. The authors believe the most significant factor accounting for these observations is the firm, nonmobile mucosal base resulting from augmentation with HA. The resultant stable, soft tissue base and improved ridge height and contour have contributed to a comfortable, retentive, stable denture for these patients. The prosthetic and surgical procedures are easier to perform and have produced superior, more permanent results than onlay bone grafts and alloplasts. Preliminary studies also point to exciting possibilities for use of HA as a bone substitute/marrow extender in maxillary and mandibular defects, cysts, and clefts and in osteotomies for orthognathic surgery.  相似文献

The purpose of this study was to investigate, in vivo, the bond strength of two adhesive materials: a moisture insensitive primer (MIP)* and a one step self etching primer (SEP)*, both used with Transbond XT* on dry and wet enamel and an adhesion time of 10-15 minutes. First or second upper and/or lower bicuspids (n = 124), to be extracted for orthodontic reasons, were used. A comparison of the materials' behavior was conducted under four different situations: 1) MIP on enamel etched and dry; 2) MIP on a surface etched and wetted with patient's saliva; 3) SEP on a dry field, 4) SEP on a saliva-wet enamel. For statistical analysis, Dunn-Sidak's multiple comparison test was applied with a probability of less than 0.05 (before correction). Stainless steel brackets with mesh-backed pads were bonded to the teeth. Bond strength was tested with modified orthodontic pliers on which a strain-gage was fixed to measure handle deformation while debonding. Moisture insensitive primer tested on wet enamel showed the highest mean bond strength outcomes (8.98 MPa) compared to one step etching primer (5.81 MPa). Statistical difference between these groups was significant (p = 0.000). Standard deviation was lower for the one-step technique, under dry and wet conditions. Since the media bond strength of SEP proved sufficient for clinical purposes and its behavior tended to be more homogeneous, this was considered the best choice.  相似文献

This article reports the case of a young female adult with GAPO syndrome who presented as a peculiar dental finding unerupted primary and permanent dentitions, which resembled total anodontia on clinical examination. A cephalometric analysis was performed to investigate the alterations in facial bone development. This is the 9th GAPO syndrome case reported in a Brazilian patient.  相似文献

Although composite restorations can provide excellent results, it is possible that general dentists might find some of the currently proposed techniques to be complicated and demanding.
