ObjectiveIncreasingly, medical journals are recognizing “equally credited authors” (ECA) in the primary and senior authorship of articles. The aim of this study was to assess the policies of co–first authorship, co–senior authorship, and designation of a corresponding author in the radiology literature.MethodsWe identified 29 radiology journals based on impact factor ranking. Journal offices were contacted by phone and e-mail to ascertain their practices on first and senior authorship ECA designations. We surveyed the March, June, and December 2018 issues of each journal (when available) to assess the utilization of the co-designations in articles.ResultsTwenty-five of 29 journals responded to our survey (response rate: 86.2%). Of 25 journals, 20 (80%) allowed co–first authorship. Among these, 4 of 25 journals (16%) allowed more than two co–first authors. Among the 25 responses, 14 journals (56%) allowed co–senior authorship. Among the 24 journals who responded to this specific question, 23 (96%) approved designation of a corresponding author, different from the first or senior author. The review of March, June, December 2018 editions found co–first authorship and co–senior authorship ECA rates of 8.6% (range 0.0%-22.7%) and 1.8% (range 0.0%-13.3%), respectively. A corresponding author other than first or senior author was noted in 13.3% (range 0.0%-34.7%).DiscussionThere has been widespread acceptance of the concept of ECA in the policies of the top cited imaging journals particularly for first authors (80%). However, the utilization of these designations is uncommon for first authorship (8.6%) and rare (1.8%) for senior authorship based on our 2018 sampling. 相似文献
To find out whether polymorphisms 333-Ile/Val and 637-Asp/Gly of the transporter part of the antigen processing 1 gene (TAP1) are associated with the development of nasopharyngeal carcinoma (NPC), we studied a total of 374 subjects (209 patients and 165 controls). We used the amplification refractory mutation system polymerase chain reaction (ARMS-PCR) method for analyzing the TAP1 gene polymorphisms. We found a significant difference between the patients and the controls in both the TAP1 codon 333 and codon 637 (P = 0.009 and P = 0.002, respectively). We also found that genotypes with the A allele were present in 206 patients with NPC and 155 controls (98.5 vs. 93.9%; P = 0.032; OR = 4.43) and that genotypes with the B allele were more often present in the control group (45 vs. 32%; P = 0.004; OR = 0.48), suggesting a significant positive association of the A allele with NPC risk and a protective role of the B allele. We have observed an association between the distribution of TAP1 alleles and the NPC patient's age at onset, compared with controls. These results back up the fact that the etiology of NPC in intermediate-risk countries is completely different in each peak of age prevalence and that each peak may possess its own particular oncogenic mechanism. 相似文献
High fasting blood glucose (FBG) can lead to chronic diseases such as diabetes mellitus, cardiovascular and kidney diseases. Consuming probiotics or synbiotics may improve FBG. A systematic review and meta-analysis of controlled trials was conducted to clarify the effect of probiotic and synbiotic consumption on FBG levels.
Methods
PubMed, Scopus, Cochrane Library, and Cumulative Index to Nursing and Allied Health Literature databases were searched for relevant studies based on eligibility criteria. Randomized or non-randomized controlled trials which investigated the efficacy of probiotics or synbiotics on the FBG of adults were included. Studies were excluded if they were review articles and study protocols, or if the supplement dosage was not clearly mentioned.
Results
A total of fourteen studies (eighteen trials) were included in the analysis. Random-effects meta-analyses were conducted for the mean difference in FBG. Overall reduction in FBG observed from consumption of probiotics and synbiotics was borderline statistically significant (?0.18 mmol/L 95 % CI ?0.37, 0.00; p = 0.05). Neither probiotic nor synbiotic subgroup analysis revealed a significant reduction in FBG. The result of subgroup analysis for baseline FBG level ≥7 mmol/L showed a reduction in FBG of 0.68 mmol/L (?1.07, ?0.29; ρ < 0.01), while trials with multiple species of probiotics showed a more pronounced reduction of 0.31 mmol/L (?0.58, ?0.03; ρ = 0.03) compared to single species trials.
Conclusion
This meta-analysis suggests that probiotic and synbiotic supplementation may be beneficial in lowering FBG in adults with high baseline FBG (≥7 mmol/L) and that multispecies probiotics may have more impact on FBG than single species.
Although there may not be a direct association between oral hygiene and implant failure, oral hygiene must be maintained around implants in the edentulous mouth. Bacterial plaque on dentures can act as a reservoir for pathogens that cause respiratory disease. Unfortunately, many edentulous patients have poor oral hygiene. In this article, we describe the development of a brochure to educate patients wearing mandibular overdentures supported by 2 implants as a supplement to the dentist"s verbal instructions. Dental literature and several specialists were consulted during preparation of the brochure, which contains photographs accompanying oral hygiene instructions. It was sent to 25 participants who were subsequently called and questioned regarding its content and their oral hygiene habits. The 24 respondents found the brochure useful; most reported that they would keep the brochure for future reference and that they learned something new about how to maintain their implants properly. No one found the brochure too long or unclear. Most participants read the brochure entirely, rather than skimming it. The brochure is available to all clinicians who wish to incorporate this tool into their implant overdenture therapeutic approach. 相似文献
Water is one of the pivotal, both in natural ecosystems and human development. Inadequate and unsafe water is still one of the major challenges in most developing countries. Due to the growing trends of bottled water (BW) consumption in Iran, especially in dry regions, regular monitoring of the quality of bottled mineral water is necessary. Therefore, this cross-sectional study was carried out to evaluate the chemical and microbiological quality of bottled mineral water which was sold in the markets of Birjand city, Iran in 2015. Samples were selected randomly from 12 most popular brands of national BW in autumn and winter. Then, 12 most popular brands were selected for analysis. Finally, parameters including total hardness, levels of calcium, magnesium, pH, bicarbonate, sulfate, alkalinity, residual chlorine and total and fecal coliforms were examined for each brand. The results of the present study revealed that most of the chemical and microbiological parameters of BW in Birjand city were lower than maximum contaminant levels which are set by Iranian mineral water quality standards and WHO guidelines. Furthermore, total and fecal coliforms were within the standards. Overall, the results of this study revealed that the health status of the bottled mineral water which is sold in the markets of Birjand city was good. But, regular monitoring of the above mentioned parameters would be helpful to improve the water quality and to provide good portable water for the dwellers and very effective to enhance public health on citizens. 相似文献
The syntheses and biological studies of O-oxime ethers having α-amino acid residues as new analogs of IPS-339 have been described. In this synthesis, the reaction of fluorene and/or benzophenone O-oxime with epichlorohydrin or epibromohydrin afforded the corresponding O-oxime ether adducts. The N-alkylation of amino acid with O-oxime ether adducts led to synthesis of new analogs of IPS-339. The products were examined for their cardiovascular property. It was demonstrated that 2-(3-(9H-fluoren-9-ylideneaminooxy)-2-hydroxypropylamino)-3-methyl-butanoic acid as the most potent compound substantially reduces the heart rate of dogs. Compounds were also evaluated for their in vitro antibacterial activity against some Gram-negative and Gram-positive bacteria. The antibacterial screening proved the considerable antibacterial activity against both groups of bacteria. The docking analysis demonstrated the appropriate fitting of 2-(3-(9H-fluoren-9-ylideneaminooxy)-2-hydroxy-propylamino)-3-methyl-butanoic acid in human β2-adrenergic receptor active site. Potential drug toxicity for some active compounds has also been predicted. 相似文献
Aims/IntroductionIn recent years, mesenchymal cellular therapies have received much attention in the treatment of diabetes. In this meta‐analysis, we aimed to evaluate the efficacy of mesenchymal stem cell therapy in type 2 diabetes mellitus patients.Materials and MethodsA comprehensive literature search was carried out using PubMed, Scopus, Web of Science and Central databases. A total of 1,721 articles were identified, from which nine full‐text clinical trials were qualified to enter the current meta‐analysis. The assessment groups included patients with type 2 diabetes, and levels of C‐peptide, glycosylated hemoglobin and insulin dose were analyzed before and after mesenchymal stem cell infusion. Data analysis was carried out in Stata version 11, and the Jadad Score Scale was applied for quality assessment.ResultsChanges in levels of C‐peptide after mesenchymal stem cell therapy were: standardized mean difference 0.20, 95% confidence interval −0.61 to 1.00, glycosylated hemoglobin levels were: standardized mean difference −1.45, 95% confidence interval −2.10 to −0.79 and insulin dose were: standardized mean difference −1.40, 95% confidence interval −2.88 to 0.09.ConclusionsThis meta‐analysis of prospective studies showed associations between mesenchymal stem cell therapy and control of glucose level in patients with type 2 diabetes. 相似文献
Aim of the workThis study was conducted to assess serum level of growth differentiation factor-15(GDF-15) in Behcet’s disease (BD) patients and its relationship with clinical characteristics, ultrasound findings and disease activity.Patients and methodsStudy included 30 BD patients and 20 matched healthy controls. Visual analog scale (VAS)-pain of affected joints and Behcet’s disease current activity form (BDCAF) were assessed. The most affected joints and surrounding soft tissues were assessed by musculoskeletal ultrasound (MSUS).Serum GDF-15 level was measured.ResultsPatients were 23 males and 7 females (M:F 3.3:1) with a mean age of 34.6 ± 8.6 years and mean disease duration of 6.6 ± 4.5 years. 18(60%) had arthritis and arthralgia. The erythrocyte sedimentation rate (ESR) and C-reactive protein (CRP) were 26.2 ± 21.2 mm/1sthr and 50.4 ± 37 mg/dl respectively. There was significant increase of GDF-15 levels in patients with articular affection (3492.3 ± 4618.8 ng/ml) compared to those without (338.9 ± 90.3 ng/ml) and controls (322 ± 78.8 ng/ml) (p < 0.001).As regard MSUS, knee (n = 8) and ankle joints (n = 8) were the most commonly affected joints. Synovitis was present in 13 patients, enthesopathy was present in 10. GDF-15 significantly correlated with ESR and CRP (r = 0.48;p = 0.008 and r = 0.73, p = 0.005) and both remained significant on regression analysis that ESR (p = 0.019 and p = 0.007 respectively). At a serum GDF-15 cut-off point of 570 ng/ml for patients with peripheral arthritis/arthralgia the sensitivity and specificity were 88.9% and 91.7% respectively.ConclusionSerum GDF-15 can be used as a marker for articular affection in BD patients and is associated with the MSUS imaging visualizing subclinical inflammatory changes. 相似文献
To make an in vitro evaluation of the lesion size and depth produced in two different sets of radio frequency energy bipolar delivery: simultaneous biparietal bipolar (SBB) and simultaneous uniparietal bipolar (SUB).
Methods
Two separate prototypes have been built for our purpose: one to be used in SBB mode and the other to be used SUB mode. Forty left atrium samples were taken from the hearts of freshly slaughtered pigs. They were ablated into a simulator ABLABOX, where blood flow, temperature, and contact force were controlled. After being sliced into a cryotome, the samples were digitalized by a flatbed scanner, and the images were analyzed by a computer morphometric software.
Results
Transmural lesions were achieved in 18/20 samples (90%) in SBB, while SUB showed transmurality in 9/20 samples (45%). Overall maximum diameter (DMAX) resulted larger in SUB than in SBB (2.43?±?0.30 mm, 1.62?±?0.14 mm, respectively; p?<?0.05): Moreover, maximum epicardial and endocardial diameters (DEPI and DENDO, respectively) were wider in SUB group than SBB group (2.28?±?0.30 mm, 2.26?±?0.40 and 1.60?±?0.14 mm, 1.59?±?0.15 mm, respectively; p?<?0.05). We observed the same tendency in lesion depth: The total area and volume (ATOT and VTOT) were broader in SUB group than in SBB one (581.01?±?65.38 mm/mm2, 58.10?±?6.53 mm/mm3 and 521.97?±?73.05 mm/mm2, 52.19?±?7.30 mm/mm3. respectively; p?<?0.05).
Conclusions
In contrast with the smaller lesion sizes, the biparietal bipolar group showed a higher transmurality rate. These findings may suggest a better drive of the energy flow when compared with SUB lesions.
