Cytokinemia and oxidative stress are important factors responsible for an inadequate immune response in the early course of acute pancreatitis (AP). The aim of the study was to evaluate the profiles of interleukin 18 (IL-18), glutathione peroxidase (GPx), and selenium concentrations in serum with respect to AP severity and to study the relationships between these parameters and recognized prognostic indicators of AP severity. Prospective clinical analyses were performed on 61 patients with mild and severe forms of AP and for 15 healthy volunteers. In both forms of AP severity, the IL-18 concentration in the serum was significantly higher than in healthy controls. In the severe form of AP, the IL-18 concentration was the highest and exceeded significantly the values recorded on the 1st, 2nd, 3rd, 5th, and 10th days of mild AP. A significantly lower GPx concentration in the serum was recorded in severe AP compared to the mild form and in the control group. There was a significantly lower selenium concentration in the severe form of AP. Significant correlations between GPx and selenium, between IL-18 and GPx, and between IL-18 and selenium were recorded. The ROC analysis shows a high prognostic accuracy of IL-18 and GPx concentrations in the determination of AP severity. IL-18 is released early in the course of AP and may be a key immunomodulator of the inflammatory response in the severe form of this disease. Low GPx and selenium concentrations in severe AP reflect the lower antioxidative ability in this form of AP. IL-18 and GPx may represent new indicators of AP severity. 相似文献

Amiodarone is a highly effective antiarrhythmic agent used in life-threatening ventricular and supraventricular arrhythmias. Its long-term use may however lead to several adverse effects, including corneal deposits, liver and thyroid gland dysfunction, lung lesions, bone marrow injury, skin lesions, or neurological abnormalities. The article presents the case of a 56-year-old man with a history of a stroke, who after a few days of amiodarone therapy for an episode of atrial fibrillation was diagnosed with amiodarone-induced hyperthyroidism and interstitial pulmonary lesions. Clinical and laboratory symptoms of hyperthyroidism and radiographic signs of pulmonary involvement did not occur until several weeks after discontinuation of amiodarone therapy. Differential diagnosis of causes of hyperthyroidism and diseases causing nodular pulmonary lesions did not demonstrate any other pathologies. Empirical antibiotic therapy and administration of thiamazole and high doses of propranolol failed to improve the patient's clinical status. It was not until thiamazole was given in combination with glucocorticosteroids, when a slow relief of hyperthyroidism symptoms and resolution of radiographic pulmonary signs were observed. Based on the presented case, the risk of appearance of 2 serious concomitant adverse effects was demonstrated, even following a short-term amiodarone therapy. This paper also contains an overview of adverse effects which may be encountered during or after therapy with this effective antiarrhythmic agent. The aim of this study was to evaluate the influenza vaccination status among paediatric patients with inflammatory bowel disease (IBD) in Poland. This was a questionnaire‐based study. 242 patients with IBD and 142 controls were enrolled in the study. Of patients with IBD, 7·8% received an influenza vaccine, compared to 18·3% of controls (P = 0·0013). There were no statistically significant differences in time from IBD diagnosis, disease activity and in drugs, between vaccinated and non‐vaccinated IBD children. In conclusion, the data of our study demonstrate an alarmingly poor influenza vaccination status in the majority of children with IBD. Therefore, there is an unmet need to implement better influenza vaccination strategies for this group of patients. 相似文献

This paper presents results of spectroscopic (NMR, FTIR, fluorescence), Q-TOF mass spectrometry and Z-potential analyses of interactions between octa(3-aminopropyl)silsesquioxane hydrochloride (POSS-NH2·HCl) and anticancer drug – doxorubicin hydrochloride. These studies aimed at explanation of the enhanced activity of doxorubicin on co-delivery with POSS-NH2. The results point to the formation of active complexes via ionic interactions between the ammonium chloride groups of silsesquioxane and the drug, and not, as suggested earlier, via NH⋯N hydrogen bonding. It has also been shown that the main driving force for the formation of the complexes can be strengthened by π–π stacking and hydrogen bonds. The experimental results are supported by quantum mechanical calculations. This work has proven that co-delivery with POSS offers a potentially advantageous and simple approach for improved efficacy in chemotherapy, avoiding often complicated synthesis of conjugates, involving covalent bonding between drug, nanocarrier and targeting agents.The interaction between polyhedral oligomeric silsesquioxane (POSS) and doxorubicin, leading to formation of active complexes involving POSS functional aminopropyl groups and anthracycline functional groups. 相似文献

The water crisis is a big social problem and one of the solutions are the Fog Water Collectors (FWCs) that are placed in areas, where the use of conventional methods to collect water is impossible or inadequate. The most common fog collecting medium in FWC is Raschel mesh, which in our study is modified with electrospun polyamide 6 (PA6) nanofibers. The hydrophilic PA6 nanofibers were directly deposited on Raschel meshes to create the hierarchical structure that increases the effective surface area which enhances the ability to catch water droplets from fog. The meshes and the wetting behavior were investigated using a scanning electron microscope (SEM) and environmental SEM (ESEM). We performed the fog water collection experiments on various configurations of Raschel meshes with hydrophilic PA6 nanofibers. The addition of hydrophilic nanofibers allowed us to obtain 3 times higher water collection rate of collecting water from fog. Within this study, we show the innovative and straightforward way to modify the existing technology that improves water collection by changing the mechanisms of droplet formation on the mesh.Modification of Raschel meshes used for fog water collectors with PA6 nanofibers allow to obtain 300% higher water collection rate in collecting water from fog. 相似文献

A series of mononuclear gold(iii) complexes of the general formula [AuCl3(diazanaphthalene)], where diazanaphthalene is quinazoline (qz, 1), phthalazine (phtz, 2), 1,5-naphthyridine (1,5-naph, 3), 1,6-naphthyridine (1,6-naph, 4) or 1,8-naphthyridine (1,8-naph, 5), were prepared and fully characterized. The complexes 1–5 consist of discrete monomeric species with the Au(iii) cation in a square planar coordination geometry surrounded by three chloride anions and one diazanaphthalene ligand. Crystallographic studies indicate the presence of an extended 4 + 1 or 4 + 2 geometry around the square planar [AuCl3(diazanaphthalene)] center due to Au⋯Cl and Au⋯N interactions. The crystal structures of these complexes are controlled by a variety of intermolecular interactions that utilize the amphiphilic properties of the coordinated chloride anions and involve C–H groups, π-electrons, and an uncoordinated nitrogen atom of the diazanaphthalene ligand. The usual offset π-stacking between the N-heteroaromatic ligands appears to be completely hindered between the 1,5-naph fragments and significantly weakened between the 1,6-naph and 1,8-naph in their respective complexes 3, 4 and 5, for which the average molecular polarizability (α) values are the lowest in the series. It is remarkable that the [AuCl3(benzodiazine)] complexes 1 and 2 form centrosymmetric crystals, but the [AuCl3(naphthyridine)] complexes 3–5 assemble into non-centrosymmetric aggregates, making them potential alternatives to the previously studied systems for application in various fields by taking advantage of their polarity.The [AuCl3(benzodiazine)] complexes form centrosymmetric crystals, while the [AuCl3(naphthyridine)] complexes assemble into non-centrosymmetric aggregates, making them potential alternatives for advanced nonlinear optical materials due to their polarity. 相似文献
