Background

Superficial temporal artery-to-middle cerebral artery (STA-MCA) anastomosis is a common procedure for neurosurgeons. The surgery necessarily requires accurate and speedy manipulation of microscope, for which a specific training is needed. Unexpected bypass occlusion sometimes happen during surgery.

Objective

Generally, conventional interrupted or continuous suture has been used for vascular anastomosis, despite various ideas have been attempted in the other surgery fields. We propose a horizontal mattress suture technique for intracranial microvascular bypass surgery. This is the first report ever published on intracranial vascular anastomosis.

Methods

We had four patients of STA-MCA bypass surgery with “mattress anastomosis” from March to May of 2012.

Results

During the procedure, there was no bypass occlusion and good patency was confirmed in all cases.

Conclusion

Intimae of the recipient and the donor blood vessel contact each other precisely with this technique. Although a long-term assessment of patency is needed, it is useful for the intracranial bypass surgery.  相似文献

Protein persulfidation plays a role in redox signaling as an anti-oxidant. Dimers of amyloid β42 (Aβ42), which induces oxidative stress-associated neurotoxicity as a causative agent of Alzheimer''s disease (AD), are minimum units of oligomers in AD pathology. Met35 can be susceptible to persulfidation through its substitution to homoCys residue under the condition of oxidative stress. In order to verify whether persulfidation has an effect in AD, herein we report a chemical approach by synthesizing disulfide dimers of Aβ42 and their evaluation of biochemical properties. A homoCys-disulfide dimer model at position 35 of Aβ42 formed a partial β-sheet structure, but its neurotoxicity was much weaker than that of the corresponding monomer. In contrast, the congener with an alkyl linker generated β-sheet-rich 8–16-mer oligomers with potent neurotoxicity. The length of protofibrils generated from the homoCys-disulfide dimer model was shorter than that of its congener with an alkyl linker. Therefore, the current data do not support the involvement of Aβ42 persulfidation in Alzheimer''s disease.

Our data do not support the Aβ42 persulfidation hypothesis in Alzheimer''s etiology because the neurotoxicity of the homoCys-disulfide-Aβ42 dimer was very weak.  相似文献

Phagophobia is a disorder characterized by a conditioned excessive fear of eating and is initiated by an event such as vomiting or choking. During childhood, vomiting often occurs as a result of infection or overeating, and painful experiences bring about maladaptive eating behavior like food refusal. There have been few reports of phagophobia, and patients have sometimes been misdiagnosed with anorexia nervosa (AN). The objective of this study was to elucidate the psycho-pathology and current treatment of patients with phagophobia by analyzing case studies. We describe 6 cases with phagophobia. Patients with strong obsessions were refractory to treatment, indicating that evaluation of premorbid personality is crucial to the prognosis. It is important to classify this disorder according to psycho-pathology into "post-traumatic type" and "gain-from-illness type" to make a treatment plan. A solution focused approach is also effective for patients and their family. Paying close attention to these conditions and to the diagnostic concept referred as "hagophobia" is useful in achieving these aims.  相似文献

Garlic (Allium sativum L.) has been used worldwide as a food and for medicinal purposes since early times. Garlic cultivars exhibit considerable morphological diversity despite the fact that they are mostly sterile and are grown only by vegetative propagation of cloves. Considerable recombination occurs in garlic genomes, including the genes involved in secondary metabolites. We examined the genomic DNAs (gDNAs) from garlic, encoding alliinase, a key enzyme involved in organosulfur metabolism in Allium plants. The 1.7-kb gDNA fragments, covering three exons (2, 3, and 4) and all four introns, were amplified from total DNAs prepared from garlic samples produced in Asia and Europe, leading to 73 sequences in total: Japan (JPN), China (CHN), India (IND), Spain (ESP), and France (FRA). The exon sequences were highly conserved among all the sequences, probably reflecting the fully functional alliinase associated with the flavor quality. Distinct intraspecific variations were detected for all four intron sequences, leading to the haplotype classifications. A close relationship between JPN and CHN was observed for all four introns, whereas IND showed a more divergent distribution. ESP and FRA afforded clearly different variants compared with those from Asian sequences. The present study provides information that could be useful in the development of an additional molecular marker for garlic authentication and quality control.  相似文献

The synthetic estrogen 17α‐ethinylestradiol (EE2) is an endocrine‐disrupting chemical released into aquatic environments from sewage treatment facilities. We tested the effects of two environmentally relevant concentrations of waterborne EE2, 10 and 100 ng L?1, on reproductive endpoints in the teleost fish Betta splendens. In the first experiment, testes were removed from males and sperm were exposed to EE2 directly through the activation water. Direct exposure to EE2 had no effect on any measure of sperm swimming performance. In the second experiment, we exposed sexually mature male B. splendens to EE2 using a semi‐static exposure protocol for 4 weeks. There were no significant treatment effects in the 10 ng L?1 treatment group, but at the 100 ng L?1 dose we found that fish had smaller gonads and reduced sperm swimming velocity. When allowed to interact freely with female conspecifics, males exposed to 100 ng L?1 EE2 built smaller nests and showed a nonsignificant decrease in fertilization success. To investigate further the potential mechanism underlying the decrease in sperm quality, we repeated the chronic exposure experiment and analyzed the ATP content of sperm from fish in each treatment group. We found that males exposed to 100 ng L?1 of EE2 had fewer moles of ATP per sperm than did fish in the other two treatment groups, suggesting that a decrease in intracellular ATP caused a reduction in sperm swimming velocity. The current study adds to the growing body of literature that indicates the risks to aquatic organisms of exposure to environmentally relevant concentrations of EE2. © 2012 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. To develop and evaluate a radiomics approach for classifying histological subtypes and epidermal growth factor receptor (EGFR) mutation status in lung cancer on PET/CT images. PET/CT images of lung cancer patients were obtained from public databases and used to establish two datasets, respectively to classify histological subtypes (156 adenocarcinomas and 32 squamous cell carcinomas) and EGFR mutation status (38 mutant and 100 wild-type samples). Seven types of imaging features were obtained from PET/CT images of lung cancer. Two types of machine learning algorithms were used to predict histological subtypes and EGFR mutation status: random forest (RF) and gradient tree boosting (XGB). The classifiers used either a single type or multiple types of imaging features. In the latter case, the optimal combination of the seven types of imaging features was selected by Bayesian optimization. Receiver operating characteristic analysis, area under the curve (AUC), and tenfold cross validation were used to assess the performance of the approach. In the classification of histological subtypes, the AUC values of the various classifiers were as follows: RF, single type: 0.759; XGB, single type: 0.760; RF, multiple types: 0.720; XGB, multiple types: 0.843. In the classification of EGFR mutation status, the AUC values were: RF, single type: 0.625; XGB, single type: 0.617; RF, multiple types: 0.577; XGB, multiple types: 0.659. The radiomics approach to PET/CT images, together with XGB and Bayesian optimization, is useful for classifying histological subtypes and EGFR mutation status in lung cancer.  相似文献
