Controversy exists about relationship of H. pylori infection and somatic growth retardation of children. The aim of this study was to evaluate the relationship between H. pylori infection and growth parameters in children. 113 children with dyspepsia (4–18 years) were enrolled. C13 urea breath test was performed for determination of H.pylori infection. Height, weight, body mass index (BMI) and standard deviation score (SDS) was calculated and growth parameters were compared between two groups of H.pylori positive and those with negative results. The prevalence of H.pylori infection was 52.2%. There was no meaningful relation between calculated SDS (for height and BMI) and H.pylori infection. 相似文献
Chemotherapy‐induced peripheral neuropathy (CIPN) is one of the most common complications in patients with cancer. Citrullus colocynthis (bitter apple) has been used in traditional Persian medicine as an effective pain relief, especially for neuralgia. We designed a pilot clinical trial to evaluate the safety and efficacy of topical C. colocynthis oil in management of CIPN in breast cancer patients. Thirty‐four cancer patients with CIPN were randomly enrolled in two arms of a randomized, double‐blind, placebo‐controlled clinical trial. The patients were treated by topical C. colocynthis oil or placebo, two times per day for 2 months. Functional Assessment of Cancer Therapy/Gynecologic Oncology Group (FACT/GOG)‐Neurotoxicity (Ntx) score was set as the primary outcome measure. No significant improvement was observed in the total score of FACT/GOG‐Ntx scale (2.40 ± 1.90 vs. 1.05 ± 1.36, p = .879) in drug and placebo groups, respectively. There was also no significant improvement in the mean scores of FACT/GOG‐Ntx in the sensory, motor, hearing, and functional domains in the two study groups. According to the results of this preliminary study, topical C. colocynthis oil failed to improve the symptoms of CIPN compared with placebo. 相似文献
In Iran thyroid-stimulating hormone (TSH) based neonatal screening program is included in health care services from 2005 for detection of patients with primary congenital hypothyroidism (CH). This study was performed for a critical evaluation of the screening program primary congenital hypothyroidism in Fars province, Iran.
Methods
From November 2006 to September 2007, TSH serum concentrations of 63031 newborns, 3 to 5 days old born in Fars province, were measured by heel prick. The newborns with TSH ≥5mIU/L were recalled for measurement of serumT4 and TSH in venous blood samples
Findings
Of 127 recalled subjects, 43 were confirmed to be hypothyroid, showing a prevalence of 1:1465 with F:M ratio of 1.05:1. The most common clinical and radiological findings were prolonged jaundice (73%), large anterior fontanel (56%), wide posterior fontanel (55%), absence of distal femoral epiphysis (20%), and umbilical hernia (11%). Scintigraphy of the thyroid with 99mTC revealed eutopia (67.4%), hypoplasia (23.3%), agenesis (4.7%) and ectopia (2.3%).
Conclusion
It is concluded that a cut off value of TSH≥5mIU/L overestimates recalling the number of patients with CH. The most common cause of congenital hypothyroidism is not dysgenesis of the gland and perhaps dyshormonogenesis in Iran is more common than what is reported in other countries. 相似文献
Objective: Nonalcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD) is a condition defined by exceeding triglycerides accumulation in the liver. The condition can develop into fibrosis, cirrhosis, and hepatocellular carcinoma. Considering the ever-increasing prevalence of NAFLD, the aim of the present study was to investigate the effects of probiotic supplementation on glycemic and inflammatory indices in patients with NAFLD.
Methods: This randomized clinical trial was conducted on 42 patients with NAFLD who had been referred to a gastroenterology clinic. Subjects in the intervention and control groups consumed 2 capsules/day probiotic or placebo, respectively, for 8 weeks. Fasting blood sugar (FBS), insulin, insulin resistance, tumor necrosis factor alpha (TNF-α), and interleukin 6 (IL-6) were measured at baseline and at the end of the study.
Results: Means of FBS, insulin, insulin resistance, and IL-6 were significantly different between groups after intervention (p < 0.05), whereas TNF-α was not significantly modified (p > 0.05). In the probiotic group, insulin, insulin resistance, TNF-α, and IL-6 decreased significantly at the end of the study compared to the beginning of study.
Conclusion: Considering the effects of probiotic supplementation on the reduction of glycemic and inflammatory indices in patients with NAFLD, consumption of probiotics is recommended as a complementary therapy in these patients. 相似文献
It has been shown that the immunophilin ligands have the special advantage in spinal cord repair. In this study, the effects of cyclosporine A (CsA) on functional recovery and histological outcome were evaluated following spinal cord injury in rats. After spinal cord hemisection in thirty six adult female Sprague-Dawley rats (200- 250 g), treatment groups received CsA (2.5 mg/kg i.p.) at 15min and 24h after lesion (CsA 15min group and CsA 24h group) daily, for 8 weeks. Control and sham groups received normal saline and in sham operated animals the spinal cord was exposed in the same manner as treatment groups, but was not hemisected. Hindlimb motor function was assessed in 1, 3, 5 and 7 weeks after lesion, using locomotive rating scale developed by Basso, Bresnahan and Beattie (BBB). Motor neurons were counted within the lamina IX of ventral horn and lesion size was measured in 5 mm of spinal lumbar segment with the epicenter of the lesion site. The mean number of motor neurons and the mean BBB scale in 3, 5 and 7 weeks in CsA 15min groups significantly increased compared to the control group. Although, the lesion size reduced in rats with CsA treatment compared to the control group, no significant difference was observed. Thus, it can be concluded that CsA can improve locomotor function and histological outcome in the partial spinal cord injury. 相似文献
