Detection limit in low-amplitude EEG measurement.   总被引:1,自引:0,他引:1  
Electrocerebral inactivity for the determination of cerebral death is defined as no findings of EEG greater than the amplifier's inherent internal noise level when recording at increased sensitivity. A surface biopotential electrode contains two interfaces composed of skin gel (electrolyte) and gel electrode (metal), each forming a noise source. The power spectral density, S(f), of extremely low noise signals was obtained by means of autocorrelation and fast Fourier transformation. Interelectrode resistance, R(f), was measured with synchronous rectification. The formula of equivalent noise resistance R(n) = S(f)/4kT, where k is the Boltzmann constant and T is room temperature in Kelvin, gives a resistance that generates the thermal noise corresponding to the measured S(f). Rn/R is a parameter derived from normalization by R. When Rn/R = 1, measured noise contains thermal noise only. Meanwhile, Rn/R > 1 indicates presence of excess noise, such as 1/f, and tissue noise in addition to the thermal noise. Mean square root (Rn/R) of the scalp noise was 10.8 at 10 Hz, showing existence of excess noise. The study results suggest that it is necessary to take excess noise into consideration in the measurement of low-amplitude EEG for the determination of cerebral death.  相似文献

Oligonol is produced from the oligomerization of polyphenols (typically proanthocyanidin from a variety of fruits such as lychees, grapes, apples, persimmons, etc.) and contains catechin-type monomers and oligomers of proanthocyanidins. The ability of Oligonol to affect infection-dependent eye inflammation, locomotion and longevity in senescence-accelerated prone mice (SAMP8) (a model of senescence acceleration and geriatric disorders with increased oxidative stress and neuronal deficit) was investigated. Oligonol (60mg/kg) significantly modulated the extent of inflammation scores in the eye of SAMP8 mice. Examination of the mice indicated infection with mouse hepatitis virus and pinworm (Syphacia obvelata) in both males and females and with the intestinal protozoa (trichomonad) in males. A comparison of the two groups (using log-rank test) and the difference in the mean life span between groups (using Student's t-test) indicated significant differences in survival (p=0.043) and the mean life span (p=0.033) in male SAMP8 mice. Oligonol increased the mean life span and this was statistically significant. In the open-field locomotive test, the 7-week-old SAMP8 mice crossed more than 40 partitioned lines in 1min. At 48-week-old control untreated male SAMP8 crossed 2 lines. The Oligonol-treated 48-week-old male SAMP8 mice crossed 17 lines however. The improved locomotive activity was statistically significant even after 36weeks in the Oligonol-treated male SAMP8 but this was not the case throughout the time course of the study in the Oligonol-treated female SAMP8. Thus Oligonol treatment to SAMP8 mice modulated the severity of infection-dependent inflammation, prolonged life-span and significantly improved locomotive activity indicating potential benefit to aging-associated diseases such as Alzheimer's or Parkinson's diseases. This presents potential for further research to define infection-dependent inflammation associated with degenerative conditions and the molecular mechanism of dietary antioxidant protection.  相似文献

The purpose of this study was to investigate the histogenesis of experimental tumors in the rat esophagus. Thirty rats received 0.0015% N-methyl-N-amylnitrosamine (MNAN) in the drinking water for 12 weeks. Another 30 rats received tap water. All rats then received tap water until sacrifice. Rats from each group were sacrificed immediately after MNAN administration, four weeks after, and eight weeks after. One hour before sacrifice, [3H]TdR was injected by tail vein to label proliferating cells. The entire esophagus and stomach were removed and processed for light and electron microscopy and autoradiography. The overall frequency of esophageal tumors after MNAN was 83% and did not differ significantly among the three experimental groups. Tumors were primarily papillomas and squamous cell carcinomas and occurred with equal frequency in the upper, middle, and lower thirds of the esophagus. No tumors were found in the squamous-lined forestomach. Electron microscopy revealed abundant tonofilaments, free ribosomes, and mitochondria accompanied by vacuoles. By autoradiography, esophageal epithelial proliferation was markedly stimulated in nontumorous mucosa from all three experimental groups. We conclude that MNAN ingestion for 12 weeks reliably produces papillomas and squamous cell carcinomas throughout the rat esophagus, but not in the squamouslined forestomach, and that MNAN stimulated marked epithelial proliferation which is accompanied by thickening of the epithelium in nontumorus esophageal mucosa.  相似文献

201Tl myocardial SPECT was performed in cases of dilated cardiomyopathy and valvular heart disease with left ventricular eccentric hypertrophy, and the two groups were compared from the standpoint of the mechanism of onset of myocardial disorders. Significant coefficients of correlation were seen between the Tl score and LVDd (r = 0.792, r = 0.785) and Tl score and LVEF (r = -0.634, r = -0.555) in both dilated cardiomyopathy and valvular heart disease. In cases of valvular heart disease, significant correlation coefficients (r = -0.756, r = -0.720) between LVDd and r-WR (relative-washout rate), and Tl score and r-WR were observed, but no such correlation was seen in dilated cardiomyopathy. In valvular heart disease, a decrease in myocardial perfusion associated with enlargement of the left ventricle appeared, while in dilated cardiomyopathy, there was a marked decrease in LVEF in proportion to the thallium defect. Therefore, it was assumed that left ventricular wall disorders occur due to myocardial metabolic disorders and coronary microcirculation disorders.  相似文献

The effect of single or combined coaxial exposure by Nd: YAG and CO2 (pulse wave) laser on the brain at the subacute stage was examined in experimental animals. Soft X-ray microangiography and histological examination of the brain were performed 48 hours after laser exposure. The lasers in this study were pulse wave form CO2 of 2, 4 and 8 watts and YAG lasers of 10, 20 and 40 watts, employed separately or simultaneously using 130 YZ of Nihon Infrared Industries Company. Japanese white rabbits were anesthetized with pentobarbital. Bilateral fronto-parietal craniectomy were made, and the dura was removed. After intravenous injection of Evans blue, the lasers were employed to the cerebral cortex using a micromanipulator attached to the operation microscope. The spot size was 0.7 mm in diameter for CO2 laser and 1.2 mm for Nd: YAG laser. Forty-eight hours after exposure, microangiography was performed and brains were prepared for the histological examination. Histological examination and microangiogram of the brain after CO2 laser exposure revealed semilunar avascular area in the edematous layer surrounded with dilated vessels. Histological examination and microangiogram of the brain after Nd: YAG laser exposure revealed broad avascular or oligovascular zones in the surrounding edematous tissue, in which the surviving vessels were narrowed. Edematous zones were also shown in the subcortical portion. The histological examination and microangiogram after combined coaxial exposure of CO2 and Nd: YAG lasers revealed triangular avascular or oligovascular zones in the edematous tissue, in which the surviving vessels were narrowed.(ABSTRACT TRUNCATED AT 250 WORDS)  相似文献

The long-term effects of low concentrations of sodium fluoride (0, 1 and 5 mg/l) in drinking water on bone metabolism were examined in the growing senescence accelerated mouse (SAM-P/6) as a spontaneous experimental model of senile osteoporosis. In 4 and 8 months of age respectively, there were almost no differences in body weight, and serum calcium, phosphorus and alkaline phosphatase levels between controls and fluoride groups. Calcium contents per dry weight of femoral bone were higher in fluoride groups than in controls. The bone mass of the trabecular was not affected by the low-concentration sodium fluoride intake. However, sodium fluoride decreased the rate of bone mass loss associated with aging in the cortical bone in SAM-P/6 compared with the control. The results of this study suggest that, in growing SAM-P/6 mice, a long-term low-concentration sodium fluoride intake affects the skeletal metabolism.  相似文献

Alveolar bone resorption by osteoclasts is essential for tooth eruption. Osteoclast-deficient Csfm(op) homozygous (op/op) mice, which lack functional macrophage colony-stimulating factor (M-CSF), suffer from osteopetrosis and completely lack tooth eruption. Although osteoclasts appear, and osteopetrosis is cured with age in op/op mice, tooth eruption is never seen. This fact suggests that there is a critical period when osteoclasts are required for tooth eruption. In this study, to detect the critical period, we administered an antagonistic antibody directed against c-Fms, a receptor for M-CSF, to inbred C57BL/6 mice for various periods. Administration of this antibody decreased tartrate-resistant acid phosphatase-positive (TRAP) osteoclasts, and incisor eruption was completely inhibited by continual administration of this antibody from embryonic day 15.5 (E15.5) until postnatal day 12.5 (D12.5). A 1-day delay of this administration abolished the inhibition of incisor eruption. The number of TRAP-positive osteoclasts was significantly reduced between E16.5 and E18.5 in the mice treated with antibody from E15.5 compared with those treated from E16.5. These results indicate that this period, during which the number of osteoclasts decreases significantly, is critical for inhibiting incisor eruption in C57BL/6 mice.  相似文献

Phosphatidylserine is known to significantly accelerate the blood coagulation reaction. In a previous communication submitted for publication, we demonstrated that phosphatidylcholine, phosphatidylethanolamine and lysophosphatidylcholine showed effects on the blood coagulation reaction using the factor Xa-prothrombin reaction system, and discuss a new function of membrane phospholipids. The present study examined the role of phospholipids in the blood coagulation regulatory reaction (anticoagulation system), by studying the effects of phospholipids on the protein C/protein S reaction. We have established quantitative methods for measuring activated protein C activity and protein S activity, and used them to measure their activity after the addition of liposomes with different phospholipid compositions. We found that phosphatidylcholine inhibited activated protein C and protein S activities in a dose-dependent manner, as in the factor Xa-prothrombin reaction system. On the other hand, phosphatidylethanolamine and lysophosphatidylcholine showed no effect on activated protein C activity. Phosphatidylethanolamine inhibited and lysophosphatidylcholine accelerated coagulation activity in the factor Xa-prothrombin system, but such effects were not observed in the protein C/protein S reaction system. The coagulation and anticoagulation reactions are exquisitely balanced by thrombin, with a role both as a procoagulant and anticoagulant. Therefore, it is understandable that phosphatidylethanolamine and lysophosphatidylcholine show different effects in the factor Xa-prothrombin and protein C/protein S reaction systems. It appears that coagulation and anticoagulation reactions are co-ordinated and controlled by changes in phospholipid composition of the cellular membrane where the coagulation reaction takes place.  相似文献
