IntroductionChronic pelvic pain (CPP) is a common gynecological problem that is also associated with sexual dysfunction.AimThe purpose of this research was to investigate the validity and reliability of Female Sexual Function Index (FSFI) in women with CPP.MethodOne hundred women with CPP and 100 age-matched subjects without CPP were compared in the study.Main Outcome MeasuresSexual function was assessed by FSFI.ResultsInternal consistency (Cronbach's alpha values = 0.91–0.97) was high for all scales. There were significant differences between women with and without CPP for each of the FSFI domain and total scores with very large effect sizes (1.29–2.56) (P < 0.0001, for all). Interdomain correlations of FSFI in the CPP group corresponded well to each other (P < 0.0001, for all). Moreover, test–retest reliability (r = 0.79–0.90) was also within acceptable ranges for this population.ConclusionWe concluded that the FSFI showed good ability to discriminate between women with and without sexual dysfunctions in the CPP population. Background Pyrrolidine dithiocarbamate (PDTC) is a low-molecular thiol antioxidant and potent inhibitor of nuclear factor-κB (NF-κB)
activation. It has been shown to attenuate local harmful effects of ischemia/reperfusion (I/R) injury in many organs. In this
study, we aimed to study the effect of PDTC on lung reperfusion injury induced by superior mesenteric occlusion.
Methods Male Wistar-albino rats randomized into three groups: (1) sham-operated control group (n = 12), laparotomy without I/R injury; (2) intestinal ischemia/reperfusion (I/R) group (n = 12), 60 min of ischemia by superior mesenteric occlusion followed by 2 h of reperfusion; and (3) I/R+PDTC-treated group
(n = 12), 100 mg/kg injection of PDTC intravenously, 30 min after the commencement of reperfusion. Evans blue dye was injected
to half of rats in all groups before the induction of I/R. We assessed the degree of pulmonary tissue injury biochemically
by measuring malondialdehyde (MDA), glutathione (GSH), and nitric oxide (NO) levels, and histopathologically by establishing
pulmonary neutrophil sequestration and acute lung injury scoring. Pulmonary edema was evaluated by Evans blue dye extravasation,
as well as lung tissue wet/dry weight ratios.
Results Pyrrolidine dithiocarbamate treatment significantly reduced the MDA and NO levels, and increased the GSH levels in the lung
parenchyma, biochemically (p < 0.05), and atteneuated the pulmonary parenchymal damage, histopathologically (p < 0.05). However, pulmonary neutrophil sequestration was not affected by postischemic treatment with PDTC (p > 0.05). Pyrrolidine dithiocarbamate administration also significantly alleviated the formation of pulmonary edema, as evidenced
by the decreased Evans blue dye extravasation and organ wet/dry weight ratios (p < 0.05).
Conclusions This study showed that postischemic treatment with PDTC significantly attenuated the lung reperfusion injury. Further clinical
studies are needed for better understanding of the specific mechanisms of PDTC protection against I/R-related organ injury
and to clarify whether PDTC may be a useful therapeutic agent during particular operations where remote organ I/R injury occurs. 相似文献

Various typical and atypical neurological manifestations can be seen as the initial symptoms of celiac disease (CD). We suggest that gluten toxicity is the most suspicious triggering risk factor for probable pathophysiological pathways of neurological involvement in atypical CD. The medical charts of 117 patients diagnosed with atypical CD were retrieved from a tertiary center in Ankara, Turkey. Eight patients reported as having neurologic manifestations as initiating symptoms were evaluated in detail. The initial neurological manifestations of CD in our study included atypical absence, which was reported first in this study, generalized tonic–clonic seizures, complex partial seizures, severe axial hypotonia and down phenotype, multifocal leukoencephalopathy, mild optic neuritis, attention deficit hyperactivity disorder, and short duration headaches. Seizures mostly emphasizing atypical absence could be the initial presentation manifestation of CD, first described in this literature. Gluten toxicity could be one of the most powerful triggering factors for developing epilepsy in CD. Learning disorders such as attention deficit hyperactivity disorder, short duration headaches, mild optic neuritis, encephalopathy, and DS could also be the initial neurological manifestations of atypical CD. A gluten-restricted diet may improve neurological complaints, epileptic discharges, and neuropsychiatric symptoms. All we found may be a small part of the full range of neurological disorders of unknown origin related to CD. Clinical suspicion should be the rule for accurate diagnosis of the disease. 相似文献

Ossifying fibroma of the jaw is a benign fibroosseous tumour. The growth of it is slowly and it is well circumscribed. Occurrence of multiple ossifying fibromas (synchronous) is rare in the jaw, and only a few cases have been documented. The most of these cases were in only maxilla. The fewer cases were reported in both of maxilla and mandible. We report a case of bilateral synchronous ossifying fibromas involving the mandible of a 37 years old male. The importance of our case is that bilaterality and synchronous of the lesions. Our case is the first synchronous mandibler lesion in literature reported. 相似文献

Ligneous periodontitis (LP) is a rare periodontal disease in which plasminogen deficiency and fibrin deposition both play a part, resulting in characteristic gingival enlargement and periodontal breakdown. Recent data suggest that oxidant/antioxidant changes are significant in the pathology of oral diseases. This study examines the gingival histopathology in 2 cases with LP. To examine the antioxidant (AO) status, the activity of the major AOs glutathione (GSH), catalase (CAT), and glutathione S-transferase (GST) and the malondialdehyde (MDA) levels, a product of lipid peroxidation, were measured and compared with healthy control subjects. The histopathologic examination of the gingiva revealed subepithelial fibrin accumulation and irregular extensive downward proliferation of the epithelium. Biochemical analysis showed that the CAT, GST, and MDA levels were higher in LP patients than in the control subjects, and the GSH level was lower. Our preliminary findings show that in LP, the AO capacity of the gingiva changes or decreases and lipid peroxidation increases, which suggests that oxidative stress is involved in the pathology of the periodontal breakdown observed in this disease. 相似文献

Twenty-nine patients and 12 healthy controls. All of the patients had positive bilateral TOS stress tests; control group participants were symptom free and had negative TOS stress tests bilaterally.Interventions
Not applicable.Main Outcome Measures
All participants underwent Adson’s test, the Halsted maneuver, and a hyperabduction test. All were evaluated with MRI while in 2 positions: the neutral position (upper extremities adducted) and in a provocative position. Measurements were obtained at the interscalene triangle, at the costoclavicular space, and at the retropectoralis minor space.Results
There was a significant difference in MRI findings between the neutral and provocative position in the patients (P<.05), but there were no significant differences in the control group. There was a significant difference in the positional change values in MRI between the patients and the control subjects (P<.05). The difference was found in the minimum costoclavicular distance between patients with a positive Halsted maneuver and a negative Halsted maneuver (P<.05).Conclusions
Our findings indicate that MRI findings in patients in a provocative position are more valuable in the diagnosis of TOS, and these findings are in accord with findings from the physical evaluation tests. 相似文献510.

Blood–testis barrier (BTB) is critical for maintaining fertility. The integrity of tight junctions (TJs) provides restricted permeability of BTB. The aim of this study was to evaluate the relationship between BTB and Sertoli cells. Testicular sperm extraction (TESE) obtained from nonobstructive azoospermia (NOA) patients was examined: Group I (spermatozoa + ) and Group II (spermatozoa − ). The tissues were stained with haematoxylin eosin, periodic acid–Schiff and Masson's trichrome for Johnsen's score evaluation. Apoptosis and adhesion molecules such as claudin-11, occludin and ZO-1 were assessed. In Group I, the integrity of the seminiferous tubules was intact. In Group II, some seminiferous tubule walls were lined only with Sertoli cells, had a thickening of the basement membrane, and oedema in interstitial spaces. In Group I, the seminiferous tubule consisted of a stratified columnar epithelium, claudin-11 expressions were observed as linear staining in the basal zone of the tubule, while seminiferous tubules, with low epithelium, displayed a punctate type of staining. Immunohistochemical observations were consistent with the ultrastructural findings. In Group II, high apoptosis and unstained/irregular TJ formation in claudin-11, occludin and ZO-1 were observed. In conclusion, disruption of relation between BTB and TJs may reveal inadequate spermatogenesis, which is one of the mechanisms behind azoospermia. 相似文献
