Recent reports have demonstrated that the HIV-1 transactivator protein,tat, induces apoptosis in T-lymphocyte cell lines, as well as in peripheral blood mononuclear cells, and stimulates a cascade of events resulting in up-regulation of the potent immunosuppressive cytokine, transforming growth factor-β (TGF-β). In this study we evaluated the ability of TGF-β to mediatetat induced apoptosis in T-lymphocyte cell lines. T-cells treated exogenously with either TGF-β1 or a combination of tat and pan-specific TGF-β neutralizing antibodies showed little change in the amount of apoptosis. When treated with pan-specific TGF-β neutralizing antibodies, Jurkat cells that stably expresstat protein (Jurkat-tat) showed only a modest decrease in apoptosis, while CEM-TART cells (CEM T-cells expressing both HIV-1tat andrev) demonstrated little change in the amount of apoptosis. In conclusion, we have demonstrated that TGF-β does not play a significant role in mediatingtat induced T-cell apoptosis.  相似文献

The performances of patients with stroke-produced unilateral hemispheric lesions on a test requiring the identification of lines were examined in the light of a recent report that contradicted previous observations. The study confirmed the results of earlier studies that patients with lesions of the right hemisphere show a remarkably high frequency of defective performances while those with lesions of the left hemisphere do not. Reaction time (RT) of normal subjects to square-wave gratings of two different frequencies were related to locus of presentation, area, and stimulus complexity. Each frequency was presented to either side of the horizontal meridian (half size stimulus) or both sides stimultaneously (full size stimulus). The two different frequencies were also flashed simultaneously to both hemifields (compound stimulus). Stimulus position affected RT with the 1 c/deg stimulus, RT being faster for the lower hemifield. With presentation on both sides of the horizontal median simultaneously or of the two spatial frequencies, the resulting RT was equal to that of the faster component. Implications of the results for the functional organization of the visual system are discussed.  相似文献

Tactile perception of direction in relation to hemispheric locus of lesion   总被引:2,自引:0,他引:2  
The performances of patients with lesions of the right or the left hemisphere on a task involving the perception of the direction of tactile stimulation applied to the palms of the hands were compared with each other and with those of patients without cerebral disease. The results confirmed earlier findings of bilateral impairment in this function in a noteworthy proportion of patients with lesions of the right hemisphere. Patients with lesions of the left hemisphere showed significant impairment only in the right hand. Within the left hemisphere group, aphasic and non-aphasic patients did not differ with respect to level or pattern of performance. The results are interpreted as supporting the conclusion that the right hemisphere plays a distinctively important role in mediating spatial perception in the tactile as well as in the visual and auditory modalities.  相似文献
