SARS-CoV-2/influenza virus co-infection studies have focused on hospitalized patients who usually had grave sequelae. Here, we report SARS-CoV-2/influenza virus co-infection cases from both community and hospital settings reported through integrated ILI/SARI (Influenza Like Illness/Severe Acute Respiratory Infection) sentinel surveillance established by the Indian Council of Medical Research. We describe the disease progression and outcomes in these cases. Out of 13,467 samples tested from 4 July 2021–31 January 2022, only 5 (0.04%) were of SARS-CoV-2/influenza virus co-infection from 3 different sites in distinct geographic regions. Of these, three patients with extremes of age required hospital admission, but none required ICU admission or mechanical ventilation. No mortality was reported. The other two co-infection cases from community settings were managed at home. This is the first report on SARS-CoV-2/Influenza virus co-infection from community as well as hospital settings in India and shows that influenza viruses are circulating in the community even during COVID-19. The results emphasize the need for continuous surveillance for multiple respiratory pathogens for effective public health management of ILI/SARI cases in line with the WHO (World Health Organization) recommendations. 相似文献

Morinda tinctoria (Rubiaceae) commonly called as ‘Indian Mulberry’ is one of the avenue trees of historically important Mandore garden planted anthropogenically in the past. Objective of this study was to determine the genetic diversity of M. tinctoria population at Mandore garden using Random Amplified Polymorphic DNA and Inter Simple Sequence Repeat Markers. A total of 97 bands were produced from 10 random amplified polymorphic DNA primers (49 bands) and 8 inter simple sequence repeat primers (48 bands). No polymorphic bands were obtained in any accessions using the two methods, which strongly suggested that M. tinctoria of this region appear as identical clones. Monomorphic pattern revealed the clonal plantation of M. tinctoria in this historical garden. This is the first report on use of molecular markers to infer the ancient plantation history. Consequences of genetically monomorphic population under global climate changes are discussed and conservation strategy is proposed. 相似文献

Abstract: Loss of motoneurons may underlie some of the deficits in motor function associated with the central nervous system (CNS) injuries and diseases. We tested whether melatonin, a potent antioxidant and free radical scavenger, would prevent motoneuron apoptosis following exposure to toxins and whether this neuroprotection is mediated by melatonin receptors. Exposure of VSC4.1 motoneurons to either 50 μm H2O2, 25 μm glutamate (LGA), or 50 ng/mL tumor necrosis factor‐alpha (TNF‐α) for 24 h caused significant increases in apoptosis, as determined by Wright staining and ApopTag assay. Analyses of mRNA and proteins showed increased expression and activities of stress kinases and cysteine proteases and loss of mitochondrial membrane potential during apoptosis. These insults also caused increases in intracellular free [Ca2+] and activities of calpain and caspases. Cells exposed to stress stimuli for 15 min were then treated with 200 nm melatonin. Post‐treatment of cells with melatonin attenuated production of reactive oxygen species (ROS) and phosphorylation of p38, MAPK, and JNK1, prevented cell death, and maintained whole‐cell membrane potential, indicating functional neuroprotection. Melatonin receptors (MT1 and MT2) were upregulated following treatment with melatonin. To confirm the involvement of MT1 and MT2 in providing neuroprotection, cells were post‐treated (20 min) with 10 μm luzindole (melatonin receptor antagonist). Luzindole significantly attenuated melatonin‐induced neuroprotection, suggesting that melatonin worked, at least in part, via its receptors to prevent VSC4.1 motoneuron apoptosis. Results suggest that neuroprotection rendered by melatonin to motoneurons is receptor mediated and melatonin may be an effective neuroprotective agent to attenuate motoneuron death in CNS injuries and diseases. 相似文献

We show, for the first time, the spatiotemporal appearance of Cyp1b1 protein during mouse eye ontogeny. The protein was unambiguously identified in the adult mouse eye and newborn (P0) whole mouse microsomes and was shown to be localized in inner ciliary epithelium, corneal epithelium, retinal inner nuclear cells, and ganglion cells. The enzyme protein was present in the lens epithelium adjacent to the developing ciliary body at 15.5 days postconception (E15.5) and was most strongly expressed during E17.5 to 7 days postnatally (P07). Subsequently, it declined to very low levels. The protein was also expressed in the corneal endothelial cells adjacent to the ciliary body at P07. Cyp1b1 was barely detectable in the inner ciliary epithelium before E17.5 but increased rapidly postnatally, reaching adult levels by P28. Levels of the enzyme protein in the corneal epithelium were seen from E15.5 onward, increasing sharply, and after a decrease at P07, were highest in the adult animal eye. The presence of Cyp1b1 protein in the inner nuclear layer of the retina was very low in the prenatal eye, increasing rapidly postnatally, and was highest in the adult animal eye. In the ganglion cell layer of the retina, it increased slowly from E15.5 to P07 and then rapidly reached adult levels. Interestingly, Cyp1b1 was not detected in the trabecular meshwork at any stage of development or in the adult eye. We conclude that the enzyme may play important roles in normal eye development and function in mice as in humans, and that the mouse may prove to be an excellent model for determination of the roles of CYP1B1 in human eye development and function. 相似文献

Rhinophyma is a common condition in the west of Scotland. Various surgical approaches have been described, most of which rely heavily on electrocautery, heated scalpel, or laser coagulation for hemostasis, resulting in thermal injury and substantial risk of scarring. The authors describe their experience with the "triple approach" for the surgical treatment of rhinophyma, consisting of tangential excision for debulking, the use of scissors for sculpting, and the use of mild dermabrasion for final contouring. The use of an alginate hemostatic dressing is also described. The triple approach has been used in 6 patients with pleasing results. 相似文献

A new natural product, 2'-O-ethylmurrangatin (1) was isolated along with two previously known compounds murranganone (2) and paniculatin (3) from the leaves of Murraya paniculata.
