RELATIONSHIP BETWEEN PLATELET CYTOSOLIC FREE CALCIUM CONCENTRATION AND PLASMA RENIN ACTIVITY

1. Plasma renin activity (PRA) and platelet cytosolic free calcium concentration ([Ca2+]i) were simultaneously determined in 18 untreated essential hypertensive subjects and 17 normotensive controls. A significant positive correlation was found between [Ca2+]i and PRA (slope = 42 nmol/l/ng/ml/h) in these 35 subjects. 2. Two determinations more than one week apart in nine subjects confirmed the parallel fluctuations of [Ca2+]i and PRA. A strict sodium restriction produced a progressive PRA elevation associated with a parallel rise in [Ca2+]i in one subject. 3. These results are consistent with the hypothesis that angiotensin II causes a concentration-dependent calcium mobilization.     

Specific and non-specific immunity and protection of macaques against SIV infection.

The simian immunodeficiency virus is a retrovirus closely related to the human immunodeficiency viruses; it induces an AIDS-like disease in macaques, and provides therefore an obvious animal model for anti-lentiviral drug and vaccine strategy assessments. In our experiment, we immunized rhesus macaques with a purified and formalin-inactivated whole SIVmac251 antigen preparation. Most of these monkeys were still protected for more than 4 months following a heterologous SIVsm intravenous challenge. Both virus stocks, for vaccine preparation and challenge, were provided by culture supernatants of infected T cells of human origin. Four of the protected macaques were then reimmunized with the same antigen preparation and rechallenged intravenously with a homologous rhesus cell grown SIVmac251. Unexpectedly, all animals developed clinical and biological evidence of infection by day 15 after the second challenge.     

氨甲喋呤配伍中药治疗未破裂型输卵管妊娠(附86例报告)

目的：探讨用氨甲喋呤（Methotraxate,MTX)配伍中药治疗条件适宜的输卵管妊娠的可行性及疗效。方法：对MTX配伍中治疗的输卵管妊娠86例临床资料进行分析。结果：82例治疗成功，成功率为95．35％，其中，治疗1个疗程69例，2个疗程13例，随访16例妊娠，1例2年后对侧输卵管妊娠，4例治疗失败者改手术治疗，病理见不同程度的滋养细胞溶解，绒毛坏死，出血，结论：使用MTX配伍中药治疗输卵管异位妊娠，方法简便易行，安全有效，副作用少，特别适合于基层医院。     

心肌缺血再灌注损伤时细胞核被膜钙泵活性特征的研究

目的　研究心肌缺血再灌注损伤时Ca2 + 、ATP、ADP和AMP对细胞核被膜钙泵 (Ca2 + ATPase)活性的调节。方法　采用大鼠心肌缺血再灌注模型 ,密度梯度分离纯化细胞核 ,定磷法测定Ca2 + ATPase活性。结果　与正常大鼠相比 ,缺血再灌注损伤动物血浆MDA和FFA显著升高 (P <0 0 1) ;细胞核Ca2 + ATPase活性下降 ,对Ca2 + 亲和力降低 ;ADP、AMP对核Ca2 + ATPase活性的影响明显减弱 ;ATP对Ca2 + ATPase的作用在 [ATP]小于 1 0mmol L时 ,与正常细胞Ca2 + AT Pase活性无显著差异 ,浓度增至 2 0mmol L时 ,活性低于正常细胞 ,ATP浓度继续增加 ,核Ca2 + ATPase活性快速增加。结论　心肌缺血再灌注损伤时Ca2 + 、ATP、ADP、AMP对心肌细胞核Ca2 + ATPase活性的影响发生了明显改变 ,其病理生理意义值得进一步探讨。     

Evaluation of maternal plasma creatine kinase activity as a marker of abnormal early pregnancy

We have tested the value of maternal plasma creatine kinase activity for diagnosing ectopic pregnancies obtained after in-vitro fertilization and embryo transfer. Plasma creatine kinase was assayed in 57 patients: 20 normal, 23 miscarriages and 14 ectopic pregnancies, for a total of 240 samples. All values were in the lower part of the normal range except only one in a miscarrying patient. A statistically significant difference was observed for a cut-off value of 45 IU/l between normal and ectopic pregnancies. However, for this cut-off point, the measurement of plasma creatine kinase activity had a sensitivity of 0.50 and a specificity of 0.76 for the diagnosis of ectopic pregnancy. The positive predictive value was 0.69. Creatine kinase activity measurements are thus of no practical value in this particular population, in which an early and specific marker of ectopic implantation would be of paramount interest. The association of human chorionic gonadotrophin (HCG) determinations and ultrasound scanning of the pelvis still remain the best paraclinical support for an early diagnosis of ectopic implantation.

Further phenotypic evidence that nodular, lymphocyte-predominant Hodgkin's disease is a large B-cell lymphoma in evolution

Five cases of nodular, lymphocyte predominant Hodgkin's disease (nLP HD), in which an association with (n = 3) and transformation to (n = 2) large cell lymphoma (LCL) were found, were studied with monoclonal antibodies against B-, T-, and Reed-Sternberg (R-S) cell-associated antigens and epithelial membrane antigen (EMA) on paraffin sections. Both lymphocytic (L) and histiocytic (H) cells of nLP HD and lymphoma cells of LCL expressed multiple B-cell-associated antigens (detected by LN-1/CDw75, L26, MB2, DBB.42, DBA.44, DND.53, DNA.7 antibodies) but did not react with antibodies against T-cell-associated (MT1, UCHL1/CD45RO) (one exception for CD45RO in LCL) and R-S cell-associated (Leu-M1/CD15, Ber-H2/CD30) antigens. EMA was expressed by L and H cells in all cases and conserved in LCL cells, emphasizing the frequent expression of EMA by the diagnostic cells of nLP HD. An antibody (BNH9) against blood group-related antigens (H and Y oligosaccharide antigens) that does not normally react with lymphoid cells was found to be reactive with few L and H cells in two of five and most LCL cells in four of five cases. The finding might be indicative of abnormal activation of lymphoid cells. The data reinforce current implications that nLP HD is a B-cell malignancy in evolution and that it is not truly representative of Hodgkin's disease in terms of biological and clinical behavior.
