Epidemiological, clinical, and mycological studies based on a total of fifty-eight cases of human ringworm caused by Trichophyton verrucosum were made. They consisted of thirty-nine epidemically occurring cases in the Tono area of Iwate prefecture in 1962 and nineteen cases occurring sporadically in Miyagi and Yamagata prefectures from 1970 through 1973. The results are summarized as follows: 1) The majority of the patients were farm workers or their family members, who had opportunity for direct contact with infected cattle. 2) The infection was most frequent during the winter months. 3) Familial occurrence was noted in twenty-six members of eleven families. 4) The most commonly affected sites were the exposed areas of the body, particularly the forearm of an adult and the face of a child. 5) The clinical features of the lesions were classified into the following six types: agminate folliculitis, tinea circinata, kerion celsi, sycosis trichophytica, granuloma trichophyticum Majocchi, and a hyperkeratotic form of tinea manum which may be previously unreported. 6) In general, lesions showed a marked inflammation with intense erythema, edema, and pustule formation, and without central clearing. 7) The causative organism easily invades the hair follicle, so that a deep-seated lesion may not be uncommon. 8) On comparative studies, the brain heart infusion agar (Difco) containing dextrose, peptone, thiamine HCl and antibiotics was found to be adequate for the isolation and the identification of Trichophyton verrucosum. 9) The fungus grew more easily at 37 °C than at room temperature (25 °C), and growth was inhibited by the addition of actidione. 10) The lesions of the agminate folliculitis type and of the hairy parts should be treated orally with griseofulvin because of a possible aggravation due to topical medication. Outside of the Tohoku district of Japan a total of thirty-eight cases have been observed in Hokkaido from 1967 to 1972 and four cases were seen in southwestern Japan in two recent years.  相似文献

Release of GABA is controlled by presynaptic GABA receptor type B (GABA(B)) autoreceptors at GABAergic terminals. However, there is no direct evidence that GABA(B) autoreceptors are activated by GABA release from their own terminals, and precise profiles of GABA(B) autoreceptor-mediated suppression of GABA release remain unknown. To explore these issues, we performed multiple whole-cell, patch-clamp recordings from layer V rat insular cortex. Both unitary inhibitory and excitatory postsynaptic currents (uIPSCs and uEPSCs, respectively) were recorded by applying a five-train depolarizing pulse injection at 20 Hz. In connections from both fast-spiking (FS) and non-FS interneurons to pyramidal cells, the GABA(B) receptor antagonist CGP 52432 had little effect on the initial uIPSC amplitude. However, uIPSCs, responding to later pulses, were effectively facilitated. This CGP 52432-induced facilitation was prominent in the fourth uIPSCs, which were evoked 150 ms after the first uIPSC. The facilitation of uIPSCs was accompanied by an increase in the paired-pulse ratio. In addition, analysis of the coefficient of variation suggests the involvement of presynaptic mechanisms in CGP 52432-induced uIPSC facilitation. Paired-pulse stimulation (interstimulus interval = 150 ms) of presynaptic FS cells revealed that the second uIPSC was also facilitated by CGP 52432, which had little effect on the amplitude and interevent interval of miniature IPSCs. In contrast, uEPSCs, responding to all five stimulations of a presynaptic pyramidal cell, were less affected by CGP 52432. These results suggest that a single presynaptic action potential is sufficient to activate GABA(B) autoreceptors and to suppress GABA release in the cerebral cortex.  相似文献

Background

This study was undertaken to investigate the trends of orthopedic publications during the last decade, and to document the country of origin, journal, funding source, and language of contribution using PubMed.

Methods

Orthopedic articles published between 2000 and 2009 were retrieved from PubMed using the following search terms: "orthopaedic[Affiliation] AND ("2000/1/1"[PDAT]: "2009/12/31"[PDAT])" and "orthopedic[Affiliation] AND ("2000/1/1"[PDAT]: "2009/12/31"[PDAT])." The articles were downloaded in XML file format, which contained the following information: article title, author names, journal names, publication dates, article types, languages, authors'' affiliations and funding sources. These information was extracted, sorted, and rearranged using the database''s management software. We investigated the annual number of published orthopedic articles worldwide and the annual rate of increase. Furthermore, the country of publication origin, journal, funding source, and language of contribution were also investigated.

Results

A total of 46,322 orthopedic articles were published and registered in PubMed in the last 10 years. The worldwide number of published orthopedic articles increased from 2,889 in 2000 to 6,909 in 2009, showing an annual increase of 384.6 articles, or an annualized compound rate of 10.2%. The United States ranked highest in the number of published orthopedic articles, followed by Japan, the United Kingdom, Germany, and the Republic of Korea. Among the orthopedic articles published worldwide during the last 10 years, 37.9% pertained studies performed in the United States. Fifty-seven point three percent (57.3%) of articles were published in journals established in the United States. Among the published orthopaedic articles, 4,747 articles (10.2%) disclosed financial support by research funds, of which 4,688 (98.8%) articles utilized research funds from the United States. Most articles were published in English (97.2%, 45,030 articles).

Conclusions

The number of published orthopedic articles has been increasing over the last decade. The number of orthopedic articles, journals publication, and funding sources were dominated by research conducted in the United States, while share and growth of Asian countries including Japan, the Republic of Korea, and China were notable.  相似文献

A 27-year-old man who had a history of bronchial asthma, eosinophilic enteritis, and eosinophilic pneumonia presented with fever, skin eruptions, cervical lymphadenopathy, hepatosplenomegaly, atypical lymphocytosis, and eosinophilia two weeks after receiving trimethoprim (TMP)-sulfamethoxazole (SMX) treatment. After the withdrawal of TMP-SMX and the administration of high-dose steroid, these systemic symptoms gradually resolved. During the disease course, the patient showed a transient increase in anti-human herpesvirus (HHV)-6 antibody titers and HHV-6 DNA in the peripheral blood, indicating the reactivation of a latent HHV-6 infection. This is the first case of TMP-SMX-induced hypersensitivity syndrome associated with the reactivation of a latent viral infection.  相似文献

SK3530.2HCl, (2-(5-(4-(2-hydroxyethyl)piperazin-1-ylsulfonyl)-2-n-propoxyphenyl)-5-ethyl-7-n-propyl-3,5-dihydro-4H-pyrrolo[3,2-d]pyrimidin-4-one dihydrochloride), is a novel a new phosphodiesterase type V (PDE V) inhibiting agents. The pharmaceutical development of SK3530 necessitated the availability of an assay for the quantification and purity determination of SK3530 active pharmaceutical ingredient (API) and its pharmaceutical dosage form. A reversed-phase high performance liquid chromatographic (HPLC) method with ultraviolet (UV) detection was developed, consisting of separation on a C18 column with a CapcellPack MG (4.6 mm x 150 mm, 5 microm) column with ammonium acetate buffer (pH 4.0, 20 mM)-acetonitrile (60:40, v/v) as the isocratic mobile phase and UV detection at 250 nm. The method has been shown good chromatographic separation for SK3530 and the other related substances. The method was found to be linear 200-300 microg/ml, precise and accurate. Stress testing showed degradation products, which were well separated from the parent compound, confirming its stability-indication capacity. Moreover, the use of LC-MS and on-line diode array detection enabled us to propose structures for degradation products.  相似文献

We demonstrated that exposure to extremely low frequency magnetic fields (ELF-MF) enhanced dopamine levels in the rat striatum. To extend our understanding, we examined the role of dopaminergic receptors in ELF-MF-induced behavioral changes. Exposure to ELF-MF (2.4 mT, 1 h/day, for one or seven days) enhanced locomotor activity in a time-dependent manner. This hyperlocomotor activity paralleled an increase in c-Fos-like immunoreactivity (c-Fos-IR). Pretreatment with SCH23390, a dopaminergic D(1)-like receptor antagonist, but not with sulpiride, a dopaminergic D(2)-like receptor antagonist, inhibited ELF-MF-induced increased locomotor activity and c-Fos-IR. Thus, our results suggest that ELF-MF-induced behavioral responses are, at least in part, mediated by activation of dopamine D(1)-like receptors.  相似文献
