Acquired cystic kidney disease (ACKD) can be developed duringchronic renal insufficiency. The probability of developing cysticdiseases rises with the increase of time in dialysis [1]. Menand African-American population are more likely to develop ACKD.Also, kidney volumes are bigger and cyst size increases fasterin this population [1,2]. Typical complications of ACKD areintra- and pericystic bleeding as well as rupture with retroperitonealhaemorrhage. Patients with ACKD also present a higher risk ofmalignant transformation. In an effort to evaluate whether differences exist in the hypothalamic-pituitary-thyroid axis of depressed children, a thyrotropin releasing hormone (TRH) stimulation test was administered to 55 prepubertal subjects who were divided into three groups matched for age and sex: a depressed group (endogenous N = 15, nonendogenous N = 15), a psychiatric nondepressed control group (N = 16), and a normal control group (N = 9). Each subject was tested at two dosages of TRH, 2 micrograms/kg and 7 micrograms/kg. Increasing age and female sex were positively correlated with a greater thyroid stimulating hormone (TSH) response. TSH response to TRH was examined with subjects reclassified by severe suicidal ideation, severe aggression, and parental history of alcoholism. Results of this study are contrasted with the adult psychiatric literature.  相似文献

The contribution of reoxygenation to ischemic brain damage   总被引:2,自引:0,他引:2  
This study examined the hypothesis that the level of postischemic reperfusion affects the severity of the resulting neuronal necrosis. In rats, tissue PO2% was monitored as an index of flow (reoxygenation) at four cortical sites by chronically implanted platinum electrodes. Twenty minutes of total global cerebral ischemia was followed by 30 min of reoxygenation. The level of reoxygenation was controlled to maintain the PO2 nearly constant at one or more of the cortical electrodes. Tissue from within 400 microns of each of 19 electrode sites among seven rats was evaluated histologically. There was a positive correlation between reoxygenation level and severity of neuronal damage. Perineuronal lucent halo formation, probably representing astrocyte foot process swelling, was negatively correlated with reoxygenation level. This study demonstrates that ischemic neuronal damage was aggravated by increased reoxygenation but that perineuronal swelling, as evidenced by halo formation, was somewhat ameliorated.  相似文献

Using radioimmunoassay the authors investigated the plasma concentration of the immunoreactive atrial natriuretic factor (IR-ANF) and its content in the atria of 4-, 8-, 12-, 16-, and 20-weeks-old spontaneously hypertensive rats (SHR), and compared the results with data obtained in normotensive Wistar-Kyoto rats of the same age. With hypertension accelerating in SHR between the 8th and the 20th weeks of life, IR-ANF content in the atrium gradually decreased, and the plasma IR-ANF concentration increased. The decline in IR-ANF was due to its decrease primarily in the left atrium. Long-term (6-day) administration of synthetic ANF to SHR with fully developed hypertension led to normalization of BP. The results do not support the hypothesis that arterial hypertension in SHR is induced by a primary deficiency of ANF. The changes in IR-ANF in the atria and plasma occur rather as an adaptive and regulatory response to increasing BP. Prolonged administration of ANF to SHR had a hypotensive effect. Therapeutic application of ANF in man depends on the development of oral and long-acting analogues.  相似文献

We targeted the MVNP gene to the OCL lineage in transgenic mice. These mice developed abnormal OCLs and bone lesions similar to those found in Paget's patients. These results show that persistent expression of MVNP in OCLs can induce pagetic-like bone lesions in vivo. INTRODUCTION: Paget's disease (PD) of bone is the second most common bone disease. Both genetic and viral factors have been implicated in its pathogenesis, but their exact roles in vivo are unclear. We previously reported that transfection of normal human osteoclast (OCL) precursors with the measles virus nucleocapsid (MVNP) or measles virus (MV) infection of bone marrow cells from transgenic mice expressing a MV receptor results in formation of pagetic-like OCLs. MATERIALS AND METHODS: Based on these in vitro studies, we determined if the MVNP gene from either an Edmonston-related strain of MV or a MVNP gene sequence derived from a patient with PD (P-MVNP), when targeted to cells in the OCL lineage of transgenic mice with the TRACP promoter (TRACP/MVNP mice), induced changes in bone similar to those found in PD. RESULTS: Bone marrow culture studies and histomorphometric analysis of bones from these mice showed that their OCLs displayed many of the features of pagetic OCLs and that they developed bone lesions that were similar to those in patients with PD. Furthermore, IL-6 seemed to be required for the development of the pagetic phenotype in OCLs from TRACP/MVNP mice. CONCLUSIONS: These results show that persistent expression of the MVNP gene in cells of the OCL lineage can induce pagetic-like bone lesions in vivo.  相似文献
