Background

The Functional Assessment of Chronic Illness Therapy (FACIT)-Fatigue Scale is an internationally used validated measure. General population–based age- and sex-specific percentile norms are, however, not published to date, although these are needed as reference for the interpretation of clinical research data.

Objectives

To assess the FACIT-Fatigue Scale in a large representative sample of the German general population to examine psychometric characteristics and factorial structure and to provide population-based norms.

Methods

A nationally representative face-to-face household survey was conducted in Germany using the FACIT-Fatigue Scale. Item characteristics were examined. Internal consistency was determined using the Cronbach α. Dimensionality was analyzed using confirmatory factor analysis (CFA) and bifactor analysis. Scale score differences relating to sex and age were assessed. Sex- and age-specific percentiles were computed for the entire scale range.

Results

Of 2426 participants, 55.7% were women, and the mean age was 49.8 ± 17.4 years. The FACIT-Fatigue Scale mean was 43.5 ± 8.3. Cronbach α was high at 0.92. Although fit indices of the CFA were below desired levels (root mean squared error of approximation = 0.144, comparative fit index = 0.846, and Tucker-Lewis index = 0.815), item loadings in the CFA and bifactor analysis confirm the scale’s unidimensionality. Women were more fatigued than men, and participants who were 70 years or older showed higher fatigue scores than younger respondents. Thus, sex- and age-specific population-based percentiles were provided.

Conclusions

Reliability and validity of the German translation of the FACIT-Fatigue Scale were confirmed. This study provides general population–based sex- and age-specific FACIT-Fatigue Scale percentile norms for the first time, thereby contributing to a meaningful interpretation of clinical research data.  相似文献

On basis of earlier results it seems justified to assume that the antomical width of the attached gingiva, i.e. the distance from the mucogingival junction to the cemento-enamel junction in human type of teeth is in direct proportion to the amount of past tooth eruption. For experimental verification of this hypothesis a study was designed to assess the anatomical width of attached gingiva on supraerupted teeth in man. The material of the sutdy comprised 28 first and second maxillary mucogingival junction was marked with short pieces of metal wire, orthopantomograms were taken, and the distances from the mucongingival junction to the floor of the nasal cavity and to the cemento-enamel junction used as controls. A comparision wa also made between the supraerupted teeth and previously measured normally occluding teeth. The results indicated that even during pronounced supraeruption the teeth tend to erupt with their investing tissues while the location of the mucogingival junction remains constant. This finding is of special interest as it should make it possible to treat the problem of a too narrow zone of attached gingiva by grinding the tooth out of occlusion and allowing it and its gingival margin to erupt.  相似文献

The aim of the present study was to discover any possible correlation between specific antibodies against Actinobacillus actinomycetemcomitans (A.a.) in serum and saliva. The test group consisted of 38 patients aged 31–68 yr (mean 49) with advanced periodontitis. Twenty-nine subjects aged 23–67 yr, without periodontal destruction, formed a control group with a reference level of specific salivary antibodies against A.a. A subgingival plaque sample for culturing A.a. , a specimen of stimulated whole saliva, and a sample of venous blood were taken from each subject of the test group. Specific IgG and IgA antibodies against A.a. were determined from serum and stimulated whole saliva by means of the ELISA test. Fifteen of the patients (39%) had cultivable A.a. Six of the 15 A.a. culture-positive patients and one of the 29 reference subjects exhibited very high antibody titers against A.a. in saliva. Specific IgG and IgA antibodies in saliva correlated highly significantly with the corresponding antibody values in serum among the patients in the test group. It was concluded that among patients with severe adult periodontitis, the less invasive saliva sample has a diagnostic value equal to that of the serum sample concerning specific antibodies against A.a.  相似文献

Purpose

The aim of this study was to determine how well pre-operative size selection for total knee and hip arthroplasties based on the digital imaging with and without additional referencing correlated with the size actually implanted.

Methods

Size selection planning of total knee arthroplasty by digital templating was documented in 46 cases with reference ball (group A) and in 48 cases without ball (group B). In addition, prospective analysis of pre-operative planning was conducted for 52 acetabular components with reference ball (group C) and 69 without ball (group D) as well as stem planning in 38 cases with ball (group E) and 54 cases without ball (group F). The data were analysed and compared with the size of the final component selected during surgery.

Results

The correlation between planned and implanted size for total knee arthroplasty in group A resulted in femoral anteroposterior (AP) r = 0.8622 and lateral r = 0.8333 and in group B AP r = 0.4552 and lateral r = 0.6950. Tibial in group A was AP r = 0.9030 and lateral r = 0.9074 and in group B AP r = 0.7000 and lateral r = 0.6376. For the acetabular components, the results in group C were r = 0.5998 and group D r = 0.6923. For stems, group E was r = 0.5306 and group F r = 0.5786. No correlation between BMI and the difference between planned and implanted size was found in any of the groups.

Conclusion

In the case of total hip arthroplasty there was a relatively low correlation between planned and implanted sizes with or without reference ball. For total knee arthroplasties the already high precision of size planning was further improved by the additional referencing with a reference ball.  相似文献
