Objectives: We assessed the impact of musculoskeletal diseases, depressive mental state, and hypertension on locomotive syndrome, a condition of reduced mobility requiring nursing care. Since locomotive syndrome is a major public health issue that needs attention, its relationship with functional inconvenience in performing daily activities was also investigated.
Methods: We conducted a cross-sectional study using an Internet panel survey, comprising 747 persons aged 30–90 years. Demographics, personal medical history, and daily activity data were assessed. The 25-question Geriatric Locomotive Function Scale was used to diagnose locomotive syndrome. Stepwise linear regression analysis and logistic regression analysis were conducted to evaluate the association between locomotive syndrome, musculoskeletal diseases, and functional inconvenience.
Results: Aging, osteoporosis, and low back pain significantly increased the risk of locomotive syndrome, followed by knee osteoarthritis and lumbar spinal stenosis. Locomotive syndrome was significantly related to depressive mental state and hypertension, and led to functional inconvenience in Seiza sitting, cleaning, shopping, and strolling.
Conclusion: Locomotive syndrome was associated with functional inconvenience in performing common daily activities involving the lower extremities and spine. Osteoporosis and aging were significantly associated with locomotive syndrome. The risk of locomotive syndrome may be decreased by treating comorbid osteoporosis and instituting exercise and diet-related modifications. 相似文献
Our aim was to find out whether the quality of bone around the inferior alveolar nerve is correlated with neurosensory disturbance to the nerve after sagittal split ramus osteotomy (SSRO) in patients with mandibular prognathism. Computed tomograms (CT) were taken of 35 patients with mandibular prognathism and 35 without. To assess the density of bone around the inferior alveolar nerve, the width of the buccal cortical bone in the mandibular second molar regions was measured on CT. The Hounsfield units (HU) in the same regions were also measured. The number of HU in the mandible around the second molar regions was significantly higher (p < 0.01) in those with neurosensory disturbance (p < 0.01). The quality of bone measured by HU is associated with an increased risk of neurosensory disturbance, but the width of buccal bone is not. 相似文献
The purpose of this study was to evaluate the fabrication of a complete denture using a CAD/CAM system. Cone beam CT was used to measure the complete denture and the artificial teeth. After a 3D complete denture image was structured using 3D CAD software, we factored out the artificial teeth and obtained a 3D denture base image. A machining center cut an acrylic resin block, and fabricated an acrylic complete denture base. The artificial teeth were bonded to the cut denture base using resin cement. A 3D digitizer digitized the fabricated acrylic denture. We measured the deviations between the master 3D complete denture image and the 3D data of the fabricated acrylic denture. The average deviations from the master 3D image were 0.50 mm for the occlusal surface. This present study indicates that it is possible to fabricate a complete denture using a CAD/CAM system. 相似文献
Background: Although many epidemiologic surveys have shown that gingivitis is more prevalent in males than in females, few studies have clearly explained what causes this difference. The objective of the present study is to explain the sex difference in gingivitis based on the interaction between oral health behaviors and related factors, such as knowledge, attitude, and lifestyle, in young people. Methods: The study was comprised of 838 subjects (440 males and 398 females), aged 18 and 19 years. Gingivitis was assessed by the percentage of bleeding on probing (%BOP). Additional information was collected regarding oral hygiene status, oral health behaviors, and related factors. Structural equation modeling was used to test pathways from these factors to %BOP. Multiple‐group modeling was also conducted to test for sex differences. Results: Females had greater knowledge, a more positive attitude, a healthier lifestyle, and higher level of oral health behaviors than males. There were significant differences in the paths (i.e., from lifestyle, knowledge, and attitude to %BOP) through oral health behaviors and oral health status. Conclusions: Sex‐based differences in gingivitis in young people can be explained by oral health behaviors and hygiene status, which are influenced by lifestyle, knowledge, and attitude. To prevent gingivitis, different approaches to males and females may be useful. 相似文献

OBJECTIVE: The aim of this study was to examine the calbindin D-28k immunoreactivity in carious teeth to know whether this protein may have a function in tertiary dentine formation. METHODS: Human extracted teeth with or without carious lesions were immersion-fixed with Zamboni fixative, demineralized in 4.13% EDTA solution (pH 7.4), frozen-sectioned, and processed for calbindin immunoreactivity and hematoxylin-eosin stain. The intensity of the immunostaining was evaluated by quantitative densitometry. RESULTS: In intact teeth, numerous odontoblasts were aligned underneath the secondary dentine and their cell bodies showed the immunoreactivity. In carious teeth, tertiary dentine had poor- or rich tubular patterns under the carious lesion. Underneath the tubule-poor tertiary dentine, distinct odontoblasts could not be seen at the central site. However, some cells with a flat appearance were located at this site and were immunonegative for calbindin D-28k. On the other hand, columnar odontoblasts were seen at the peripheral site, and their cell bodies and processes showed strong immunoreactivity. Underneath the tubule-rich tertiary dentine, columnar odontoblasts were abundantly distributed, and the strong immunoreactivity was observed in their cell bodies and processes. The immunoreactivity in odontoblasts underneath the tertiary dentine with poor or rich tubular pattern was more intense than that for the secondary dentine in intact teeth (P<0.05). On the other hand, the intensity of the immunoreactivity in odontoblasts was similar underneath the secondary dentine in intact and carious teeth. CONCLUSIONS: The present study demonstrated that calbidin D-28k was actively synthesised by odontoblasts under the carious lesion. These findings may suggest that this protein plays an important role in the tertiary dentine formation. 相似文献
BACKGROUND: Gingival bleeding is frequently accompanied by an ulcerated epithelium, with repair depending on the proliferative activity of the epithelial cells. The present study examined the proliferative activity of the junctional epithelium (JE) under several different methods of toothbrushing stimulation. METHODS: Twelve dogs were used in this 3-week experiment. Prior to the experiment, all teeth underwent daily removal of plaque and calculus using a scaler. Teeth were then divided into quadrants: 9 teeth in 3 quadrants (test, 3 per quadrant) were mechanically stimulated by toothbrushing for various time intervals (10, 20, or 40 seconds) and at various forces (100, 200, or 250 gf). The 3 teeth in the fourth quadrant served as controls. The proliferative activity of the basal cells of the junctional epithelium was evaluated for expression of proliferating cell nuclear antigen (PCNA). The numbers of PCNA-positive basal cells and total basal cells were counted, and the width of the junctional epithelium was measured. RESULTS: Toothbrushing force significantly affected the PCNA-positive basal cell ratio (P < 0.05). The 200 g toothbrushing force produced the highest PCNA-positive basal cell ratio, which was significantly higher than that using the 100 g force (P < 0.05). CONCLUSION: In junctional epithelium stimulated with a toothbrush, the PCNA-positive basal cell ratio is more sensitive to toothbrushing force than to duration. 相似文献
