An autopsy case of bronchiolo-alveolar adenocarcinoma in the lung is reported. The patient is a 70-year-old male who complained of severe cough with 500–600 ml watery sputum a day, loss of weight, and general fatigue. Autopsy revealed numerous whitish tumors in various sizes with multiple cysts in both lungs, with no metastasis being found in any other organs. Histological findings identified the tumor as a bronchiolo-alveolar adenocarcinoma originating from the lungs. Electron-microscopic findings showed that the tumor cells were covered by prominent microvilli, and contained abundant irregulary-shaped cytoplasmic vacuoles suggestive of mucin. 相似文献

Free radicals are involved in the pathogenesis and/or progression of Parkinson's disease (PD). Several ergot derivative dopamine (DA) agonists have been reported to scavenge free radicals in vitro and to show a neuroprotective effect in vivo. We investigated the in vitro free radical scavenging and antioxidant activities of cabergoline, a long-acting ergot DA agonist, as well as its ability to activate glutathione (GSH), catalase (Cat) and superoxide dismutase (SOD) activating effects and its in vivo neuroprotective properties against 6-hydroxydopamine (6-OHDA) intracerebroventricularly (i.c.v.) in mice. The striatal DA turnover induced by i.c.v. injection of 6-OHDA was completely normalized by pretreatment with cabergoline. Moreover, cabergoline scavenged free radicals in vitro and significantly reduced lipid peroxidation in vitro and in vivo. Furthermore, daily administration of cabergoline to mice significantly increased striatal GSH levels by activation of RNA expressions of GSH-related enzymes, although striatal Cat and SOD activities did not change. In addition, our present results suggest that repeated administration of cabergoline attenuates both 6-OHDA-induced nigrostriatal DAergic dysfunction and DA neuronal cell death, since cabergoline also had a neuroprotective effect in the immunohistochemical experiment. In conclusion, our findings indicate that the multiple antioxidant mechanisms of cabergoline, such as activation of the GSH system and the direct free radical scavenging activity, may explain the neuroprotective effect of this ergot DA agonist. 相似文献

(1) Background: Protein stimulates the secretion of glucagon (GCG), which can affect glucose metabolism. This study aimed to analyze the metabolic effect of a high-protein diet (HPD) in the presence or absence of proglucagon-derived peptides, including GCG and GLP-1. (2) Methods: The response to HPD feeding for 7 days was analyzed in mice deficient in proglucagon-derived peptides (GCGKO). (3) Results: In both control and GCGKO mice, food intake and body weight decreased with HPD and intestinal expression of Pepck increased. HPD also decreased plasma FGF21 levels, regardless of the presence of proglucagon-derived peptides. In control mice, HPD increased the hepatic expression of enzymes involved in amino acid metabolism without the elevation of plasma amino acid levels, except branched-chain amino acids. On the other hand, HPD-induced changes in the hepatic gene expression were attenuated in GCGKO mice, resulting in marked hyperaminoacidemia with lower blood glucose levels; the plasma concentration of glutamine exceeded that of glucose in HPD-fed GCGKO mice. (4) Conclusions: Increased plasma amino acid levels are a common feature in animal models with blocked GCG activity, and our results underscore that GCG plays essential roles in the homeostasis of amino acid metabolism in response to altered protein intake. 相似文献

Methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus (MRSA) is highly contagious. It is spread by direct contact with MRSA-infected people or objects. Healthcare workers' hands are the most common vehicle for the transmission of healthcare-associated pathogens from patient to patient and within the healthcare environment. The present study aimed to investigate the correlation between the incidence of MRSA among Staphylococcus aureus recovered from clinical culture and the use of alcohol-based hand rub solutions or gloves and antimicrobial use density (AUD). All data were examined every 6 months between January 2005 and June 2008. The increasing use of alcohol-based hand rub solutions was correlated with a decreasing incidence of recovery of MRSA from clinical cultures (r(2) = 0.58). A statistically significant (P < 0.05) correlation (r(2) = 0.68) was observed between glove use and the incidence of MRSA. On the other hand, we did not find any correlation between the AUD of each antibiotic group and the incidence of MRSA. Thus, we suggest that it is important to use not only alcohol-based hand rubs, but also gloves, because MRSA is transmitted from patient to patient by the hands of healthcare workers. 相似文献
