Correction for ‘Tantalum(v) 1,3-propanediolate β-diketonate solution as a precursor to sol–gel derived, metal oxide thin films’ by Christopher Beale et al., RSC Adv., 2020, 10, 13737–13748, DOI: 10.1039/D0RA02558E.

The authors regret that the plasma treatment and printing parameters were reported incorrectly in the subsection “Deposition on a-SiO2 for UV/Vis spectrophotometry” in the Experimental section of the original article.Before printing, the substrate for both samples was subjected to an argon plasma treatment for 5 minutes (150 W, 0.6 mbar). The plasma power is now corrected to be the same as stated in the “Deposition on a-SiO2 for Raman/XRD” subsection, where originally it was incorrectly stated that “the power was set slightly higher” for the Raman/XRD samples. AimsSpeckle-tracking imaging is a novel method for assessing left ventricular (LV) function and ischemic changes. The aim of this prospective study was to assess the diagnostic accuracy of global longitudinal strain (GLS) and regional longitudinal strain (RLS) parameters at rest in comparison to stress echocardiography findings for detecting significant coronary artery disease (CAD) in patients with diabetes mellitus (DM).MethodsWe prospectively studied echocardiographic characteristics at rest with Speckle tracking echocardiography (2D STE) measures; then stress echocardiography and coronary angiography data in 34 diabetic patients without regional wall motion abnormality (RWMA) at rest. Patients were grouped according to coronary angiography and stress echocardiography results into two groups CAD (+) vs control group CAD (−).ResultsGLS at rest was lower in the CAD (+) group ((-14.2 % ± 3.1 vs -17.8 % ± 3.1 in the control group CAD (−), P=0.004). GLS at rest had the highest area under the ROC curve (AUC) (AUC 0.78, sensitivity 61%, specificity 91%,P=0.009) with the cut-off of -14.5% which is equal to predictive power of wall motion scoring index (WMSI) at peak stress to detect significant CAD (AUC=0.76 (95% CI 0.58–0.94, P= 0.016) with the cut-off value of 1.21).ConclusionsGlobal longitudinal strain at rest by STE showed excellent specificity (>90%) and good sensitivity (60%) for the diagnosis of severe CAD among the diabetic population with unknown CAD. This is the first study showing that GLS at rest with cutoff value at -14.5% had good and equal diagnostic accuracy as WMSI at peak stress to detect significant CAD among the diabetic population.  相似文献

Tantalum oxide is ubiquitous in everyday life, from capacitors in electronics to ion conductors for electrochromic windows and electrochemical storage devices. Investigations into sol–gel deposition of tantalum oxide, and its sister niobium oxide, has accelerated since the 1980s and continues to this day. The aim of this study is to synthesize a near UV sensitive, air stable, and low toxicity tantalum sol–gel precursor solution for metal oxide thin films – these attributes promise to reduce manufacturing costs and allow for facile mass production. By utilizing 1D and 2D nuclear magnetic resonance, this study shows that by removing ethanol from the precursor solution at a relatively low temperature and pressure, decomposition of the photosensitive complex can be minimized while obtaining a precursor solution with sufficient stability for storage and processing in the atmosphere. The solution described herein is further modified for inkjet printing, where multiple material characterization techniques demonstrate that the solution can be utilized in low temperature, photochemical solution deposition of tantalum oxide, which is likely amorphous. Tested substrates include amorphous silica, crystalline silicon wafer, and gold/titanium/PET foil. The hope is that these results may spark future investigations into electronic, optical, and biomedical device fabrication with tantalum oxide, and potentially niobium oxide, based films using the proposed synthesis method.

A general palladium-catalysed selective C–H halogenation reaction is reported, which was successfully achieved for a large variety of functionalized aromatic rings incorporating diverse N-directing groups. By using simple alkali halides of MX type as the nucleophilic reagent source (M = Li, Na, K, Cs and X = I, Br and Cl), and phenyliodanediacetate oxidant, clean C–H-iodination, bromination and chlorination reactions were performed. This general protocol of selective ortho-monohalogenation, which complements but contrasts with the classical methods using electrophilic reagents, is achievable in a short time (30 min) with microwave irradiation assistance. The reaction was extended to substrates bearing N-directing pyridine, pyrimidine, pyrazole, oxazoline, naphtho[1,2-d]thiazole, and azobenzene groups. Notably, the topical and selectivity-challenging s-tetrazine, as a nitrogen-rich heteroaromatic, was successfully halogenated by this protocol.

In March 2020, the Italian government imposed a national lockdown which was almost completely removed in June 2020. Due to the abrupt stop of human activities, emissions of air pollutants decreased. Air pollution is an environmental risk factor for noncommunicable disease and mortality. Emerging evidence also suggests a role in male infertility. In this study, we compared sperm DNA fragmentation (sDF) levels and conventional semen parameters between subjects undergoing sDF determination and routine semen analysis in a single Italian centre, during about 6 months before (N = 119) and after lockdown (N = 105). After lockdown, we found an improvement of sperm progressive motility (48.00[38.50–58.00]% vs. 42.00[33.00–53.00]%) and sDF levels (as total: 24.79[18.33–33.97]% vs. 35.02[25.04–45.73]%, p < .001; brighter: 14.02[10.69–17.93]% vs 18.54[13.58–25.82]%, p < .001 and dimmer sDF: 9.24[5.64–15.78]% vs. 12.24[8.08–19.10]%, p < .01), mirrored by a decrease of leukocyte semen concentration (p < .01). The improvement of sperm motility and DNA quality was maintained after adjusting for leukocyte concentration and several conditions known to affect sperm motility and/or sDF levels. With a significant decrease in air pollution observed in Tuscany during and after lockdown, associated improvement in sperm motility and DNA quality in patients referred to the infertility clinic is suggestive of the potential role of air pollution in male infertility.  相似文献

Background: Considering current scientific evidence about the significant role of chronic low grade inflammation in the physiopathology of schizophrenia, it has been hypothesized that changes in pro-inflammatory cytokines such as interferon gamma may have a significant role in the predisposition to schizophrenia.

Aim: This study focuses on identifying whether the functional polymorphism of interferon gamma receptor 2 (IFNGR2) is a risk factor for the development of schizophrenia.

Methods: This study was conducted by the RFLP-PCR on a Tunisian population composed of 225 patients with different sub-types of schizophrenia and 166 controls.

Results: The IFNGR2 (Q64R) polymorphism analysis showed higher frequencies of minor homozygous genotype (RR) and allele (R) in all patients compared to controls (21.8% vs 10.2%; p?=?.006, OR?=?2.54) and (44% vs 34.9%; p?=?.01; OR?=?1.46), respectively. This correlation was confirmed only for males. This study also noted a significant increase of the mutated homozygous (RR) genotype and (R) allele frequencies of IFNGR2 in paranoid schizophrenics compared to controls (31.4% vs 10.2%; p?=?.001; OR?=?3.34 and 47.2% vs 34.9%; p?=?.009; OR?=?1.66, respectively). This increase remains significant after using binary logistic regression to eliminate confounding factors such as age and sex. Additionally, carriers of RR genotype have significant lower scores on the Scale of Assessment of Positive (SAPS) and negative (SANS) symptoms comparatively to the carrier of the QQ?+?QR genotypes, suggesting that the R recessive allele carriers could have milder symptoms.

Conclusion: The IFNGR2Q64R polymorphism is correlated with male sex and paranoid schizophrenia. It is suggested that a chronic neuroinflammation may predispose to the paranoid schizophrenia development in men.  相似文献

Aspergillus terreus is emerging as a causative agent of life-threatening invasive aspergillosis. Prognosis for affected patients is often worse than for A. fumigatus infections. To study A. terreus-mediated disease, we developed 3 infection models. In embryonated hen's eggs and leucopenic mice, the outcome of invasive aspergillosis was similar to that described for A. fumigatus. However, 10(2)- and 10(3)-fold higher conidia concentrations were required for 100% lethality. In corticosteroid-treated mice, only 50% mortality was observed, although bioluminescence imaging revealed transient disease in all infected animals. In surviving animals, we observed persistence of ungerminated but viable conidia. Cytokine levels in these mice were comparable to uninfected controls. In contrast to A. fumigatus infections, all mice infected with A. terreus developed fatty liver degeneration, suggesting the production of toxic secondary metabolites. Thus, at least in mice, persistence and subclinical liver damage are unique features of A. terreus infections.  相似文献

Due to the coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) pandemic, populations from many countries have been confined at home for extended periods of time in stressful environmental and media conditions. Cross-sectional studies already evidence deleterious psychological consequences, with poor sleep as a risk factor for impaired mental health. However, limitations of cross-sectional assessments are response bias tendencies and the inability to track daily fluctuations in specific subjective experiences in extended confinement conditions. In a prospective study conducted across three European countries, we queried participants (N = 166) twice a day through an online interface about their sleep quality and their negative psychological experiences for two consecutive weeks. The focus was set on between- and within-person associations of subjective sleep quality with daytime experiences, such as rumination, psychotic-like experiences, and somatic complaints about the typical symptoms of the coronavirus. The results show that daily reports of country-specific COVID-19 deaths predicted increased negative mood, psychotic-like experiences, and somatic complaints during the same day and decreased subjective sleep quality the following night. Disrupted sleep was globally associated with negative psychological outcomes during the study period, and a relatively poorer night of sleep predicted increased rumination, psychotic-like experiences, and somatic complaints the following day. This temporal association was not paralleled by daytime mental complaints predicting relatively poorer sleep quality on the following night. Our findings show that night-to-night changes in sleep quality predict how individuals cope the next day with daily challenges induced by home confinement.  相似文献

We present a case of a relapse of HL revealed by a skin involvement. A biopsy of the skin lesion showed infiltration by a mixed cellularity and Reed–Sternberg cells.
