Radical correction of tetralogy of Fallot in infants under 1 year of age

The article generalizes the experience in surgical treatment of Fallot's tetrad in 20 infants. Radical correction of the anomaly was carried out under extracorporeal circulation and deep hypothermia with reduced volume rate of perfusion. Plastics of the conus arteriosus alone was performed in 6 patients, transanulus and the pulmonary trunk in 4 patients. Two patients died, the hospital lethality was 10%. A clinical effect was produced in all the other patients. The relation of systolic pressure in the left ventricle to that in the right ventricle was 0.56 +/- 0.1, the systolic pressure gradient between the right ventricle and the pulmonary artery was 18 +/- 4.2 mm Hg. Various degree of regurgitation at the pulmonary valve was revealed after the operation in all patients. It was maximum (34 +/- 10%) in transanulus plastics.     

Synthesis and Pharmacological Activity of the Oxidized Fractions of Arabinogalactan from Siberian Larch (<Emphasis Type="Italic">Larix sibirica L.</Emphasis>)

Aqueous solutions of arabinogalactan from Siberian larch (Larix sibirica L.) were subjected to oxidative destruction by a hydrogen peroxide – molecular oxygen system. The obtained high- and low-molecular-weight fractions of oxidation products were characterized by chemical and spectral methods and tested for pharmacological activity. Effect of the physico-chemical form and storage time of ferriferrocyanides on the sorption of cesium-137 in the digestive tract

In consequence of the test of Ferriferrocyanide efficiency under the intoxication of white rats by 137Cs the dependence of its sorption effect on the chemical form, production process and the degree of dispersion of the preparation is demonstrated. Maximum efficiency has been determined in Ferriferrocyanides when their degree of dispersion is 0.02-0.03 mm. Antidote qualities of the preparations can be preserved for 15 years.     

环孢菌素A阻断人HL－60抗药性细胞于G_1期而诱导敏感细胞凋亡

进一步研究了抗三尖杉酯碱的ＨＬ－６０细胞（ＨＲ２０）抗细胞凋亡的机制及该抗性和抗药性的关系。结果表明，环孢菌素Ａ（ＣｓＡ）２０，１０μｇ·ｍｌ￣（－１）诱导ＨＬ－６０细胞发生凋亡，而阻断ＨＲ２０细胞于Ｇ＿１期，就不能诱导细胞发生凋亡。低浓度的ＣｓＡ明显增加柔红霉素在ＨＲ２０细胞内的积聚，其逆转抗药性作用与阻断细胞周期运行无关。ＣｓＡ１０μｇ·ｍｌ￣（－１）处理ＨＲ２０细胞，可引起５０ｋＤａ的蛋白质高度磷酸化。结果提示：环孢菌素Ａ阻断抗三尖杉酯碱的ＨＬ－６０细胞于Ｇ＿１期，而诱导敏感的ＨＬ－６０细胞发生凋亡，其阻断作用与抗药性无关     

Independent integration of genes controlling the invasive properties and streptomycin resistance of enteropathogenic strain Escherichia coli 0124

CrossingEscherichia Coli K12 Hfr AB313 with an enteropathogenic strain ofE. coli of the serological group 0124 yielded recombinants which had lost their invasiveness. The loss of invasiveness of these recombinants was not due to the acquisition of genes controlling resistance to streptomycin.I. P. Pavlov First Leningrad Medical Institute. Age changes in vasomotor reflexes and ultrastructure of sympathetic neurons in rats after chemical desympathization

The number of cells in the sympathetic ganglia of rats was reduced by means of guanethidine to 30% (group 1) and to 1% (group 2) of normal. In rats aged 2 months pressor responses to asphyxia and to stimulation of the femoral nerve were absent. In the animals of group 1 (but not of group 2) recovery of the reflexes was observed at the age of 4 months. An increase in the number of neurofibrils was demonstrated in the neurons surviving guanethidine treatment, indicating growth of the axon of these cells. Investigation of responses to the indirect sympathomimetic tyramine revealed an increase in the number of effector sympathetic endings at the periphery at the age of 4 months in the animals of group 1. It is suggested that restoration of reflex responses in the animals of this group at the age of 4 months took place on account of growth and branching of the axons of the surviving nerve cells, as a result of which the density of the effector innervation at the periphery was restored.     

Microsurgical anatomy of VII and VIII cranial nerves and related arteries in the cerebellopontine angle

Summary The relationships of VII and VIII cranial nerves and related arteries are reviewed in 26 preparations by microdissection techniques. These vessels may be grouped in large (AICA, PICA), medium (LA, SA, CSA, RPI) and small calibre (vasa nervorum, radicullar and medullar branches). The importance of these structures in acoustic neuroma surgery, vestibular neurectomy and cross-compression syndromes is discussed. Vascular loops and elongated arteries are normal structures present at birth.This work was supported by a grant from the AJ Roemmers Foundation
