Prolonged ultraviolet-B radiation is regarded as a risk factor for pterygium, and that could explain its prevalence is much higher in the low latitude area.

The surgical haemostatic options for damage control of pelvic fractures

Unstable pelvic fractures usually associated with haemodynamic instability and early mortality is usually secondary to uncontrolled haemorrhage, so the goal of unstable pelvic ring disruptions treatment is preventing early death from life-threatening haemorrhage. Damage control orthopedics is a good choice for the treatment of severely injured pelvic fracture patients who are in an ‘unstable’ or ‘in extremis’ clinical condition. In this case, according to the principle of damage control, timely and decisively implement of appropriate as well as effective surgical hemostasis is necessary, so pelvic packing, angiography and embolization, internal iliac artery ligation, and/or artery balloon occlusion must be considered immediately life-saving. The blood loss and the subsequent transfusion requirement can be decreased by performing limited surgical interventions, which may be beneficial to critical ill patients, reduce the developing of systemic complications, affecting the outcome of patients, and eventually reduce early mortality.

Cancerous pain is commonly seen inthe intermediate or advanced cancers. It isusually caused by the local infiltration,spreading and metastasis of cancer cells af-fecting the nerves, so the pain is generallypersistent and aggravating all the time. Sincesuch pain is hard to relieve, the patients of-ten suffer a lot. NI may make the consciousnessand depth of anesthesia monitoring safe, simple, accurate,and economic. It is important that NI is more accurate thanclassical electroencephalographic variables.^1 Weber et al2believed that the NI was an objective and true index in theevaluation of propofol sedation in children.

Treatment determination based on syndrome differentiation is the key of Chinese medicine. A feasible way of improving the clinical therapy effectiveness is needed to correctly differentiate the syndrome classifications based on the clinical manifestations. In this paper, a novel data mining method based on manifold ranking （MR） is proposed to explore the relation between syndromes and symptoms for viral hepatitis. Since MR could take the symptom data with expert differentiation and the symptom data without expert differentiation into the task of syndrome classification, the clinical information used for modeling the syndrome features is greatly enlarged so as to improve the precise of syndrome classification. In addition, the proposed method of syndrome classification could also avoid two disadvantages in previous methods： linear relation of the clinical data and mutually exclusive symptoms among different syndromes. And it could help exploit the latent relation between syndromes and symptoms more effectively. Better performance of syndrome classification is able to be achieved according to the experimental results and the clinical experts.     

Intraspinal endometriosis: a case report

Endometriosis (EM) is defined by the presence of tissue histologically and functionally similar to the endometrium outside the uterus. EM has been mostly reported in the pelvis. Intraspinal endometriosis (IEM) is so rare that only four cases have been reported in the literature, to our knowledge.1-4 Two years ago, a patient was admitted to the Second Affiliated Hospital of Lanzhou Medical College and was treated successfully (with 2 years of follow-up).     

Study on Proteomics in Hepatic Metastasis of Colorectal neoplasms

Colorectal cancer is one of the most frequent cancers in the world. Hepatic metastasis is the most common site metastatic disease and dominant cause of death in colorectal cancer patients. In the large majority of cases, cell dysfunction in CRC results from multiple rather than single, gene interactions, so to be able to predict occurrence of disease and treatment outcome, more studies on comparative proteomics are needed both in sporadic and in hereditary colorectal cancer. This article is about the proteomic study on hepatic metastasis of colorectal cancer which helps to identify the specific proteins that play important roles in hepatic metastasis. The study of protein molecules with their expressions correlated to the metastatic process would help to understand the metastatic mechanisms and thus facilitate the development of strategies for the therapeutic interventions and clinical management of cancer.
