ObjectiveThe aim of this study was to assess the role of ENAM rs3796703, LTF rs1126478, and TNF-α rs1800629 in high caries susceptibility.DesignThe present case–control study included 1005 unrelated children under 4 years old: 505 with severe caries (dmft index ≥4) and 500 who were caries-free (dmft index = 0 and without white-spot lesions). Questionnaires were obtained from parents and gardians about the children’s diet and oral behavioural habits. All the children received dental examinations and oral swabbing for human genomic DNA collection. ENAM rs3796703, LTF rs1126478, and TNF-α rs1800629 were genotyped by Sanger sequencing.ResultsThe frequency of the ENAM rs3796703 T allele (6.7% in the caries group and 4.2% in the caries-free group), CT genotype (12.7% in the caries group and 8.4% in the caries-free group), TNF-α rs1800629 A allele (4.8% in the caries group and 6.8% in the caries-free group), and AG genotype (8.7% in the caries group and 13.2% in the caries-free group) were significantly different between the caries and caries-free groups (p < 0.05). No significant difference was found in the LTF rs1126478 allele frequency and genotype distribution between the two groups. The ENAM rs3796703 CT genotype increased caries susceptibility by 60.9% compared to the CC genotype (β = 0.746, OR = 1.609), and the TNF-α rs1800629 AG genotype reduced caries susceptibility by 47.4% compared to the GG genotype (β = −0.642, OR = 0.526). In terms of habits covariates, prolongation of night feeding time by 1 month increased caries susceptibility by 3.3% (β = 0.033, OR = 1.033); additionally, sweets and acidic drinks consumption 1–2 times per day increased caries susceptibility by 218.2% (β = 1.158, OR = 3.182), and consumption 3 or more times pe/r day increased susceptibility by 883.5% (β = 2.286, OR = 9.835) compared to non-consumption. Topical fluoride application decreased caries susceptibility by 43.0% (β = −0.562, OR = 0.570).ConclusionsThe ENAM and TNF-α genes are likely associated with caries experience in Chinese children. The ENAM rs3796703 CT genotype might be involved in caries susceptibility, while TNF-α rs1800629 AG genotype might be involved in caries protection.  相似文献

AimTo evaluate the microleakage of recently available glass ionomer based restorative materials (GC Fuji IX GP, GC Fuji VII, and Dyract) and compare their microleakage with the previously existing glass ionomer restorative materials (GC Fuji II LC) in primary and permanent teeth.MethodOne hundred and fifty (75 + 75) non-carious deciduous and permanent teeth were restored with glass ionomer based restorative materials after making class I cavities. Samples were subjected to thermocycling after storing in distilled water for 24 h. Two coats of nail polish were applied 1 mm short of restorative margins and samples sectioned buccolingually after storing in methylene blue dye for 24 h. Microleakage was assessed using stereomicroscope.ResultSignificant differences (P < 0.05) were found when inter group comparisons were done. Except when GC Fuji VII (Group III) was compared with GC Fuji II LC (Group II) and Dyract (Group IV), non-significant differences (P > 0.05) were observed. It was found that there was no statistically significant difference when the means of microleakage of primary teeth were compared with those of permanent teeth.ConclusionsGC Fuji IX GP showed maximum microleakage and GC Fuji VII showed least microleakage.  相似文献

ObjectiveTo evaluate the association between polymorphisms in DLX1, DLX2, MMP13, TIMP1 and TIMP2 genes with dental fluorosis (DF) phenotype.DesignFour hundred and eighty one subjects (108 with DF and 373 DF free) from 6 to 18 years of age were recruited. This population lived in Rio de Janeiro, a city with fluoridation of public water supplies. DF was assessed using the Deańs index modified. Only erupted permanent teeth were assessed. Genetic polymorphisms in DLX1, DLX2, MMP13, TIMP1 and TIMP2 were analyzed by real-time PCR from genomic DNA. Association between DF, genotype, and allele distribution were evaluated using chi-square and logistic regression analyses with an alpha level of 5%.ResultsDF was more prevalent in Afro-descendants than in Caucasians (p = 0.08; OR = 1.83; CI 95% = 1.18–2.82). Logistic regression analysis adjusted by the ethnicity demonstrated a statistical difference for TIMP1 genotype (p = 0.033; OR = 2.93, 95%CI, 1.09–7.90). When only the severer cases of DF were analyzed, polymorphisms in DLX1 and DLX2 were associated with DF (p < 0.05).ConclusionOur results provided evidence that polymorphisms in TIMP1, DLX1 and DLX2 genes may be associated with DF phenotypes.  相似文献

ObjectivesTo evaluate the dentine microtensile bond strength (μTBS), nanoleakage (NL), degree of conversion (DC) within the hybrid layer for etch-and-rinse and self-etch strategies of universal simplified adhesive systems.Methodsforty caries free extracted third molars were divided into 8 groups for μTBS (n = 5), according to the adhesive and etching strategy: Clearfil SE Bond [CSE] and Adper Single Bond 2 [SB], as controls; Peak Universal Adhesive System, self-etch [PkSe] and etch-and-rinse [PkEr]; Scotchbond Universal Adhesive, self-etch [ScSe] and etch-and-rinse [ScEr]; All Bond Universal, self-etch [AlSe] and etch-and-rinse [AlEr]. After restorations were constructed, specimens were stored in water (37 °C/24 h) and then resin–dentine sticks were prepared (0.8 mm2). The sticks were tested under tension at 0.5 mm/min. Some sticks from each tooth group were used for DC determination by micro-Raman spectroscopy or nanoleakage evaluation (NL). The pH for each solution was evaluated using a pH metre. Data were analyzed with one-way ANOVA and Tukey's test (α = 0.05).ResultsFor μTBS, only PkSe and PkEr were similar to the respective control groups (p > 0.05). AlSe showed the lowest μTBS mean (p < 0.05). For NL, ScEr, ScSe, AlSe, and AlEr showed the lowest NL similar to control groups (p < 0.05). For DC, only ScSe showed lower DC than the other materials (p < 0.05).ConclusionsPerformance of universal adhesives was shown to be material-dependent. The results indicate that this new category of universal adhesives used on dentine as either etch-and-rinse or self-etch strategies were inferior as regards at least one of the properties evaluated (μTBS, NL and DC) in comparison with the control adhesives (CSE for self-etch and SB for etch-and-rinse).  相似文献

BackgroundChemokines and cytokines may occur in dentinal fluids in response to local infection and inflammation. To test this hypothesis, we assessed the presence and concentration of inflammatory mediators in fluid extracted from the coronal occlusal dentine of trimmed teeth.DesignFreshly extracted sound, carious, and restored molars were trimmed through the enamel to expose the underlying dentine, etched with 35% phosphoric acid, and rinsed. Fluid was extracted from the coronal occlusal dentine of these trimmed teeth by centrifugation at 2750 × g for 30 min.ResultsWhen assessed by MALDI-TOF, fluid extracted from the coronal occlusal dentine from 16 molars contained at least 117 peaks with different masses suggesting that this fluid was rich with molecules within the appropriate mass range of potential mediators. Indeed, when assessed for chemokines and cytokines, fluid extracted from the coronal occlusal dentine from 25 extracted molars with caries lesions, 10 extracted restored molars with occlusal amalgam, and 77 extracted sound molars contained IL-1β, TNF-α, IL-6, IL-8, IL-12(p70), and IL-10. A significant elevation was found for TNF-α (p = 0.041) in extracted fluid from teeth restored with amalgam fillings.ConclusionsOverall, fluid extracted from the coronal occlusal dentine of trimmed teeth may be useful in identifying proteins and other molecules in dentine and pulpal fluids and determining their role as mediators in the pathogenesis of oral infection and inflammation.  相似文献

ObjectiveAn amelogenin-derived peptide has been shown to promote remineralization of demineralized enamel in an in vitro model of initial caries induced by pH cycling. The present study examines whether the peptide exerts similar effects within the complex oral environment in vivo.DesignSpecific pathogen-free Sprague-Dawley rats (n = 36) were infected with Streptococcus mutans, given ad libitum access to Diet 2000 and drinking water supplemented with sucrose (10%, w/v), and then randomly divided into three groups treated with 25 μM peptide solution, 1 g/L NaF or deionized water. Molar teeth were swabbed twice daily with the respective solutions for 24 days. Then animals were killed, their jaws were removed and caries lesions were analyzed using the quantitative light-induced fluorescence-digital (QLF-D) technique to measure changes in mineral content. To verify QLF-D results, caries were scored for lesion depth and size using the Keyes method, and analyzed using polarized light microscopy (PLM).ResultsMineral gain was significantly higher in teeth treated with peptide or NaF than in teeth treated with water (p < 0.05), based on the QLF-D results (ΔF and ΔQ). Incidence of smooth-surface and sulcal caries based on Keyes scores was similar in rats treated with peptide or NaF, and significantly lower in these groups than in rats treated with water (p < 0.05). Lesions on teeth treated with peptide or NaF were shallower, based on PLM. No significant differences were observed between molar enamel caries treated with peptide or NaF.ConclusionsThis amelogenin-derived peptide can promote remineralization in a rat caries model, indicating strong potential for clinical use.  相似文献

ObjectivesIn dental research multiple site observations within patients or taken at various time intervals are commonplace. These clustered observations are not independent; statistical analysis should be amended accordingly. This study aimed to assess whether adjustment for clustering effects during statistical analysis was undertaken in five specialty dental journals.MethodsThirty recent consecutive issues of Orthodontics (OJ), Periodontology (PJ), Endodontology (EJ), Maxillofacial (MJ) and Paediatric Dentristry (PDJ) journals were hand searched. Articles requiring adjustment accounting for clustering effects were identified and statistical techniques used were scrutinized.ResultsOf 559 studies considered to have inherent clustering effects, adjustment for this was made in the statistical analysis in 223 (39.1%). Studies published in the Periodontology specialty accounted for clustering effects in the statistical analysis more often than articles published in other journals (OJ vs. PJ: OR = 0.21, 95% CI: 0.12, 0.37, p < 0.001; MJ vs. PJ: OR = 0.02, 95% CI: 0.00, 0.07, p < 0.001; PDJ vs. PJ: OR = 0.14, 95% CI: 0.07, 0.28, p < 0.001; EJ vs. PJ: OR = 0.11, 95% CI: 0.06, 0.22, p < 0.001). A positive correlation was found between increasing prevalence of clustering effects in individual specialty journals and correct statistical handling of clustering (r = 0.89).ConclusionsThe majority of studies in 5 dental specialty journals (60.9%) examined failed to account for clustering effects in statistical analysis where indicated, raising the possibility of inappropriate decreases in p-values and the risk of inappropriate inferences.  相似文献

ObjectiveTo investigate fluid flow through dentine in primary teeth in vitro using the replica technique, and to compare the results with those obtained from permanent dentine.DesignThe experiments were carried out on 22 extracted, mandibular, primary, incisor teeth. The incisal edge was removed to 1 mm below the dentino-enamel junction and half the exposed surface etched with phosphoric acid. The exposed dentine was blotted dry and the pressure in the pulp cavity held at 0, 15, 30 or 45 cm H2O above atmospheric for 30 s. Fluid that accumulated on the dentine surface was recorded with impression material and a replica made with epoxy resin which was examined in a scanning electron microscope.ResultsStructures resembling fluid droplets were present in the replicas of unetched dentine in all 22 teeth, and at all the pulpal pressures tested. The droplets formed at 45 cm H2O were significantly larger (median diam., 5.14 mm; interquartile range, 3.26 mm; Friedman repeated measures analysis of variance on ranks (RMAVR) and Tukey test) than those formed at other pressures. There was no evidence of droplets in the replicas of etched dentine with any of the pulpal pressures.ConclusionsThese results demonstrate that fluid will tend to flow from dentine in deciduous teeth when it is exposed. They are similar to those obtained in a previous study in this laboratory on permanent teeth. The fact that fluid droplets were absent from etched dentine suggests that, after being blotted, the etched dentine matrix absorbed fluid that tended to flow out through the dentinal tubules.  相似文献

ObjectiveSince some probiotic bacteria are cariogenic themselves, their suitability for caries management is questionable. Inactivated bacteria or their supernatants have been found to exert probiotic effects, whilst having several advantages compared with living bacteria. We hypothesized that viable and heat-inactivated Bifidobacterium animalis BB12 reduces the cariogenicity of Streptococcus mutans (SM) in vitro.DesignWe assessed mono- and mixed species biofilms of SM and viable or heat-inactivated BB12. Biofilms were grown in a continuous-culture-system under cariogenic conditions on smooth proximal enamel or cavitated dentine. For each of eight experimental subsets (4 biofilms × 2 hard-tissue conditions), a total of 32 specimens was used. After 10 days, bacterial numbers of 12 biofilms per group were analysed, and all specimens submitted to transversal microradiography.ResultsMineral loss was higher in cavitated dentine than smooth enamel for all biofilms (p < 0.001, t-test). BB12-monospecies biofilms induced significantly less mineral loss than SM in both enamel (p < 0.05) and dentine (p < 0.001). Viable BB12 did not significantly reduce cariogenicity of SM (p > 0.05), whilst heat-inactivated BB12 decreased cariogenicity of SM in dentinal cavities (p < 0.01). Bacterial numbers were higher on dentine than enamel (p < 0.05), but not significantly influenced by biofilm species (p > 0.05).ConclusionsHeat-inactivated BB12 reduced the cariogenicity of SM in dentinal cavities in vitro. Inactivated probiotics might be suitable for caries control.  相似文献

Genetic disturbances during dental development influence variation of number and shape of the dentition. In this study, we tested if genetic variation in enamel formation genes is associated with molar-incisor hypomineralization (MIH), also taking into consideration caries experience. DNA samples from 163 cases with MIH and 82 unaffected controls from Turkey, and 71 cases with MIH and 89 unaffected controls from Brazil were studied. Eleven markers in five genes [ameloblastin (AMBN), amelogenin (AMELX), enamelin (ENAM), tuftelin (TUFT1), and tuftelin-interacting protein 11 (TFIP11)] were genotyped by the TaqMan method. Chi-square was used to compare allele and genotype frequencies between cases with MIH and controls. In the Brazilian data, distinct caries experience within the MIH group was also tested for association with genetic variation in enamel formation genes. The ENAM rs3796704 marker was associated with MIH in both populations (Brazil: p = 0.03; OR = 0.28; 95% C.I. = 0.06–1.0; Turkey: p = 1.22e?012; OR = 17.36; 95% C.I. = 5.98–56.78). Associations between TFIP11 (p = 0.02), ENAM (p = 0.00001), and AMELX (p = 0.01) could be seen with caries independent of having MIH or genomic DNA copies of Streptococcus mutans detected by real time PCR in the Brazilian sample. Several genes involved in enamel formation appear to contribute to MIH.  相似文献

ObjectiveEvaluate the efficacy of 0.8% arginine, potassium nitrate and sodium fluoride mouthwashes on dentine hypersensitivity reduction.MethodsSix week randomized, double blinded, two cell, parallel single centre clinical study in the Dominican Republic; subjects were randomized into three treatment groups: mouthwash containing 0.8% arginine, PVM/MA copolymer, pyrophosphates, and 0.05% sodium fluoride in an alcohol-free base (arginine); mouthwash containing 2.4% potassium nitrate and 0.022% sodium fluoride (potassium nitrate); a control mouthwash containing 0.05% sodium fluoride (negative control). Tactile and air-blast dentine hypersensitivity assessments were conducted at baseline, thirty minutes post rinsing and two, four, and six weeks of twice-daily product use. For treatment group comparisons, ANCOVA and post hoc Tukey's pair-wise comparisons (α = 0.05) were done.ResultsSeventy-five subjects were enrolled; 69 subjects completed the study. There were no differences after thirty minutes of a single use, among the three groups with respect to mean tactile and air blast hypersensitivity scores compared to potassium nitrate and negative control mouthwashes (p < 0.05). The arginine group presented a statistically significant improvement in the mean tactile scores compared to potassium nitrate and negative control groups after two, four, and six weeks (p < 0.001) of product use; the arginine group showed a statistically significant enhancement in air blast hypersensitivity mean scores compared to potassium nitrate and negative control groups after two (p = 0.001), four (p < 0.001), and six weeks (p < 0.001) of product use.ConclusionA mouthwash containing arginine provides a significant and superior reduction in dentine hypersensitivity compared to potassium nitrate and a negative control mouthwash after two weeks.  相似文献

ObjectivesThe purpose of this study was to consider the impact of surface defects on quantitative light-induced fluorescence (QLF) and micro-digital-photography (MDP) measures, in relationship to lesion depth.MethodsSimulated enamel carious lesions were developed on 45 extracted human teeth. Images of each tooth were captured with both QLF and MDP. The teeth were sectioned and lesion depth was measured with polarized light microscopy (PLM). Pearson correlations were computed using data from the 27 lesions which did not have surface loss, and then separately based upon the 18 lesions which did display surface loss. MDP variables ΔR and ΔX measure reflected light, whereas QLF variables ΔF and ΔQ measure fluorescence.ResultsA strong correlation was identified between lesion depth and ΔF (r = ?0.765, p < 0.0001), and ΔQ (r = ?0.827, p < 0.0001) on intact lesions while a weak but suggestive, although non-significant, correlation was identified between average lesion depth and ΔR (r = 0.369, p = 0.059) and ΔX (r = 0.595, p = 0.0011). However, the corresponding correlation was not statistically significant, when lesions with surface loss were considered for QLF and MDP measures.ConclusionsQLF measures ΔF and ΔQ were strongly correlated with lesion depth in lab-simulated lesions with no surface loss, but not among lesions with surface defects. The two MDP-associated measures, ΔR and ΔX, could not be said to differ significantly when lesions with and without surface defects were compared with lesion depth. Because intact lesions can be remineralized, accurate assessment of their status is imperative for caries treatment.Clinical significanceDental caries is still widely prevalent today. We now know that with early stage detection, remineralization can be accomplished. Being able to identify dental caries in its reversible stage (before physical surface loss) is paramount for the clinician to be able to treat the disease non-invasively.  相似文献

Fluorescence-based devices are adjunct tools for caries detection. Both DIAGNOdent 2095 (LF) and DIAGNOdent 2190 (LF pen) were developed for this application. The purpose of this in vivo study was to compare the relationship between the measurements obtained using the LF and LF pen devices in primary and permanent teeth. The same sample of occlusal and smooth surfaces caries were evaluated by one examiner using both LF and LF pen devices in children. For occlusal caries, measurements were made at 51 sites in primary teeth, and at 83 sites in permanent teeth. For smooth surface caries, measurements were made at 63 sites in primary teeth, and 163 sites in permanent teeth. The values obtained with the LF pen for occlusal caries in primary and permanent teeth (17.6 ± 2.14, 20.6 ± 1.40, respectively) were significantly higher than those obtained with the LF (9.7 ± 1.24, 11.3 ± 0.78). For caries on smooth surfaces, the values obtained with the LF pen for primary and permanent teeth (8.2 ± 1.22, 7.2 ± 0.45) were higher than those obtained with the LF (4.5 ± 0.57, 3.3 ± 0.23). For both occlusal and smooth surface caries, the values were significantly different between the two devices (P < 0.01). The Spearman's correlation coefficients comparing the LF and LF pen values for primary and permanent teeth were Rs = 0.87 and 0.86 for occlusal caries and 0.80 and 0.74 for smooth surface caries, respectively. Values from both devices showed high correlation coefficients, indicating similar principle of function. However, the actual values were significantly different, which indicated that the values obtained with the two devices did not agree. The LF pen should be used with caution in patients for whom the LF is already being used to manage caries.  相似文献

ObjectivesThe objective of this study was to investigate the effects of dentine primer containing dual antibacterial agents, namely, 12-methacryloyloxydodecylpyridinium bromide (MDPB) and nanoparticles of silver (NAg), on dentine bond strength, dental plaque microcosm biofilm response, and fibroblast cytotoxicity for the first time.MethodsScotchbond Multi-Purpose (SBMP) was used as the parent bonding agent. Four primers were tested: SBMP primer control (referred to as “P”), P + 5% MDPB, P + 0.05% NAg, and P + 5% MDPB + 0.05% NAg. Dentine shear bond strengths were measured using extracted human teeth. Biofilms from the mixed saliva of 10 donors were cultured to investigate metabolic activity, colony-forming units (CFU), and lactic acid production. Human fibroblast cytotoxicity of the four primers was tested in vitro.ResultsIncorporating MDPB and NAg into primer did not reduce dentine bond strength compared to control (p > 0.1). SEM revealed well-bonded adhesive–dentine interfaces with numerous resin tags. MDPB or NAg each greatly reduced biofilm viability and acid production, compared to control. Dual agents MDPB + NAg had a much stronger effect than either agent alone (p < 0.05), increasing inhibition zone size and reducing metabolic activity, CFU and lactic acid by an order of magnitude, compared to control. There was no difference in cytotoxicity between commercial control and antibacterial primers (p > 0.1).ConclusionsThe method of using dual agents MDPB + NAg in the primer yielded potent antibacterial properties. Hence, this method may be promising to combat residual bacteria in tooth cavity and invading bacteria at the margins. The dual agents MDPB + NAg may have wide applicability to other adhesives, composites, sealants and cements to inhibit biofilms and caries.  相似文献

ObjectiveTooth decay is one of the most common oral infections observed in skeletal assemblages. Sex differentials in caries frequency are commonly examined, with most studies finding that females tend to have a higher frequency of carious lesions (caries) compared to males. Less research has examined differences in caries between males and females with respect to age in past populations. Findings from living populations indicate that caries frequencies are higher in females, at least in part, because of the effects of estrogen and pregnancy. We are interested in the interaction of age, sex, and caries in medieval London, during a period of repeated famines, which might have exacerbated underlying biological causes of caries sex differentials.DesignWe examined caries in adults from two medieval London cemeteries dating to c. 1120–1539 AD: St. Mary Spital (n = 291) and St. Mary Graces (n = 80) to test the hypothesis that males and females have different caries frequencies irrespective of age. The association between maxillary molar caries and sex was tested using hierarchical log-linear analysis to control for the effects of age on caries frequencies.ResultsThe results indicate a higher frequency of maxillary molar caries in females (P < 0.00), and that the age distribution of caries differs between the sexes (P = 0.01), with a consistent increase in frequency with age for females until late adulthood, but not males.ConclusionsThe difference in caries frequencies is not explained by differences in the age distributions of the sexes. Differences in the age patterns of caries for males and females could be the result of biological factors that present during reproductive age, differences in diet, or differential access to resources during famine.  相似文献

ObjectiveEvaluate the efficacy of three regimens integrating toothpaste, toothbrush and mouthwash in reducing dentine hypersensitivity.MethodsEight-week single-centre, three-cell, double-blind, randomized study was conducted in the Dominican Republic. Subjects entered one of the three regimens: (1) toothpaste containing 8% arginine and 1450 ppm mono-fluorophosphate, in a calcium carbonate base, a soft-bristle toothbrush followed by a mouthwash containing 0.8% arginine, PVM/MA copolymer, pyrophosphates, and 0.05% sodium fluoride; (2) toothpaste containing 5% potassium nitrate and 1450 ppm sodium fluoride, a soft-bristle toothbrush, followed by a mouthwash containing 0.51% potassium chloride and 230 ppm sodium fluoride; and (3) toothpaste containing 1450 ppm mono-fluorophosphate, a soft-bristle toothbrush followed by a fluoride/arginine free mouthwash. Tactile and Air-Blast dentine hypersensitivity measurements were performed at baseline, two, four, and eight weeks. For treatment group comparisons, ANCOVA and post hoc Tukey's pair-wise (α = 0.05) were used. Kaplan–Meier survival analysis was performed to evaluate Time to Treatment Improvement.Results120 subjects were enrolled, 118 completed the study. The Tactile hypersensitivity mean scores showed statistically significant improvement at two, four and eight (p  0.001) weeks in the arginine regime; the potassium regime did not show significant (p  0.05) improvement. Air-Blast Hypersensitivity scores had a statistically significant decrease at two (p = 0.006), four (p = 0.006) and eight (p = 0.002) weeks in arginine and potassium regimes (p  0.05). The most effective treatment proved to be arginine (p  0.05) compared to the potassium regime.ConclusionArginine regimen provided the greatest reduction in Tactile and Air-Blast dentine hypersensitivity compared to potassium and negative control regimens; and provides faster dentine hypersensitivity relief than potassium regimen.  相似文献

ObjectivesThis study analysed the effect of frequency of intake and amount of fluoride in milk on the remineralisation of artificial enamel and dentine caries lesions ex vivo/in situ.Materials and methodsPre-demineralised bovine enamel and dentine slabs were randomly allocated into 5 groups and fixed in removable appliances used by subjects for 7 days in each phase. Each treatment comprised milk containing 2.5 ppm fluoride daily (T1), or every other day (T2), 5.0 ppm F daily (T3), or every other day (T4) or no treatment (T5).ResultsEnamel alterations were quantified by surface hardness recovery (%SHR) and transversal microradiography (TMR), and in dentine by TMR only. Data were analysed by ANOVA and Tukey’s test (p < 0.05). For enamel, the highest %SHR was found for T1 and T3 compared to control, without significant differences between them. All groups showed positive values of ΔΔZ − T1 (247.3 ± 198.5); T2 (110.9 ± 303.2); T3 (226.0 ± 299.2); T5 (5.0 ± 288.0), except T4 (−274.5 ± 407.3). For dentine, the only group that presented remineralisation was T2 (350.0 ± 657.5).ConclusionsFluoridated milk daily seems to have higher remineralising effect on enamel than its use every other day. Dentine, does not seem to benefit from daily use of fluoridated milk.  相似文献

ObjectivesThe National Institute of Dental and Craniofacial Research funded three practice-based research networks (PBRNs), NW-PRECEDENT, PEARL and DPBRN to conduct studies relevant to practicing general dentists. These PBRNs collaborated to develop a questionnaire to assess the impact of network participation on changes in practice patterns. This report presents results from the initial administration of the questionnaire.MethodsQuestionnaires were administered to network dentists and a non-network reference group. Practice patterns including caries diagnosis and treatment, pulp cap materials, third molar extraction, dentine hypersensitivity treatments and endodontic treatment and restoration were assessed by network, years in practice, and level of network participation. Test–retest reliability of the questionnaire was evaluated.Results950 practitioners completed the questionnaire. Test–retest reliability was good–excellent (kappa > 0.4) for most questions. Significant differences in responses by network were not observed. The use of caries risk assessment forms differed by both network participation (p < 0.001) and years since dental degree (p = 0.026). Recent dental graduates are more likely to recommend third molar removal for preventive reasons (p = 0.003).ConclusionsPractitioners in the CONDOR research networks are similar to their US colleagues. As a group, however, these practitioners show a more evidence-based approach to their practice. Dental PBRNs have the potential to improve the translation of evidence into daily practice. Designing methods to assess practice change and the associated factors is essential to addressing this important issue.  相似文献

ObjectivesTo compare the microhardness of sub-restoration dentine after selective carious tissue removal and placing glass ionomer restorative cement.MethodsForty-three primary molars with carious lesions extended to the inner third of dentine in subjects aged 8–12 years were included. The teeth were randomly assigned to the following carious tissue removal conditions: Group 1 - removal to the soft dentine, Group 2 - removal to the firm dentine, and Group 3 - removal to the hard dentine. Following restoration with glass ionomer restorative cement for three to six months, 30 tooth samples underwent microhardness testing performed on sub-restoration dentine and sound dentine. The Wilcoxon signed-rank test was used to compare the microhardness values of sound dentine and sub-restoration dentine within the group. The Kruskal–Wallis test was used to analyse the microhardness of the sub-restoration dentine across the three groups.ResultsAll 30 teeth available for analysis were asymptomatic, with no signs of pulpitis. The average microhardness values of sub-restoration dentine and sound dentine ranged from 16 to 23 KHN and 20 to 27 KHN, respectively. In each group, the microhardness value of the sub-restoration dentine was significantly lower than that of the sound dentine (p < 0.01). There were no significant differences in the microhardness values of sub-restoration dentine relative to that sound dentine among three groups (p = 0.86).ConclusionThe microhardness values of sub-restoration dentine with selective carious tissue removal were comparable to those with complete carious tissue removal after glass ionomer restorative cement placement.  相似文献

PurposeThe stress relaxation and compressive strength of resin, resin-modified glass ionomer, glass ionomer, polycarboxylate, and zinc oxide eugenol cements were measured to determine the characteristics of these materials after setting.MethodsA total of 19 luting cements including 12 permanent cements and 7 temporary cements were used. Cylindrical cement specimens (10 mm long and 6 mm in diameter) were obtained by chemical setting or light curing. The specimens were stored for 24–36 h in water at 37 °C and were then used for the stress relaxation and compression tests. The stress relaxation test was carried out using three constant cross-head speeds of 5, 50, and 100 mm/min. Upon reaching the preset dislocation of 0.5 mm, the cross-head movement was stopped, and the load was recorded for 60 s. Fractional stress loss at 1 s was calculated from the relaxation curves. The compressive strength and modulus were measured at a cross-head speed of 1 mm/min. Data were analyzed with the Kruskal–Wallis test and Holm's test.ResultsA zinc oxide eugenol cement [TempBOND NX] exhibited the largest fractional stress loss. A resin cement [ResiCem] showed the largest compressive strength, while a glass ionomer cement [HY-BOND GLASIONOMER CX] showed the largest compressive modulus among all tested cements (p < 0.05).ConclusionThe fractional stress loss could not be classified by the cement type. Two implant cements [Multilink Implant and IP Temp Cement] showed similar properties with permanent resin cements and temporary glass ionomer cements, respectively. Careful consideration of the choice of cement is necessary.  相似文献
