A Clinical Study on Treatment of Senile Psoriasis by Replenishing Qito Activate Blood——A Report of 40 Cases

40 cases of senile psoriasis were treated by the therapeutic principle of replenishing qi to activate blood,and the changes of T lymphocyte subgroups and indexes of haemorheology were observed. The results showed that CD4 was significantly increased, CD8 significantly decreased, and the CD4/CD8 ratio significantly raised; and that the specific viscosity of whole blood at high shearing rate, and at low shearing rate, the specific viscosity of plasma, packed cell volume, and fibrinogen all significantly decreased after treatment. It is therefore concluded that the therapeutic method of replenishing qi to activate blood can exert an effect of improving immunologic function and blood circulation.

Frequent Ventricular Extrasystole Treated by Needling Neiguan （PC 6） plus Oral Administration of Mexiletine——A Report of 30 Cases

Purpose:To observe the therapeutic effect of needling at Neiguan(PC 6)plus oral administration ofmexiletine.Methods:60 cases of frequent ventricular extrasystole were randomly divided into two groups:a treatment group,and a control group.In the control group,mexiletine was orally administered,and in thetreatment group needling at bilateral Neiguan(PC 6)plus oral administration of mexiletine were given.2weeks of treatments constituted a therapeutic course.Results:Of the 30 cases in the treatment group,23cases were markedly effective,5 cases improved,and 2 cases failed;while in the control group 16 caseswere markedly effective,8 cases improved,4 cases failed,and 2 cases aggravated.The total effective ratesof 90.3% and 80.0%,respectively in the treatment and control groups showed a very significant differencebetween the two groups(P<0.01).Conclusion:Needling at bilateral Neiguan(PC 6)may enhance thetherapeutic effect for frequent ventricular extrasystole.     

The TCM Remedies for Treatment of AIDS——A Clinical Report of 60 Cases

Objective: To evaluate the clinical effects of TCM remedies in treatment of acquired immune deficiency syndrome (AIDS). Method: 60 cases of AIDS or AIDS-related complex (ARC) were divided into four different TCM patterns and treated accordingly. Results: Of the 60 cases, 52 patients (86.7%) experienced remarkable improvement in general symptoms and lab findings, including virus loading and CD4 T lymphocyte count. Conclusion: The TCM remedies could definitely improve the symptoms and signs of AIDS or ARC, enhance the immune function, decrease the possibility of contracting opportunistic infection, improve the life quality, and prolong the survival period, with no apparent toxic and side effects.

Treatment of Prolapse of Lumbar Intervertebral Disc by Tuina Massotherapy Combined with Oral Administration of Buyang Huanwu Tang——A Report of 75 Cases

A Clinical Study on Haunglian Fire-Purging Mixture In Treatment of 46 Cases of Primary Hypertension

In order to observe the therapeutic effects of Huanglian Fire-Purging Mixture (黄连清降合剂) on primary hypertension, 46 cases of primary hypertension in the treatment group were treated with Huanglian Fire-Purging Mixture to clear away heat from the liver, relieve mental stress, purge fire and remove toxin;and the other 26 cases of primary hypertension in the control group were treated with Niuhuang Bolus for Lowering Blood Pressure (牛黄降压丸). The effect in the treatment group was obviously superior to that in the control group (P＜0.05). The Huanglian Fire-Purging Mixture shows noticeable effects 3-6 hours after medication. The mixture can improve the clinical symptoms, the left ventricular diastolic function and myocardial ischemia, correct dyslipoproteinemia and dysglycemia, and reduce blood viscosity. And it is safe and with no obvious adverse reactions.

The Combined Use of Acupuncture and Chinese Medicines for Treatment of Menopausal Syndromes——A Clinical Report of 63 Cases

Objective To evaluate therapeutic effects of the combined use of acupuncture and Chinese medicines in 63 cases of menopausal syndrome. Methods Ninety-three cases of menopausal syndrome were randomly divided into 2 groups. Sixty-three cases of the treatment group were treated by the combined use of acupuncture and Chinese medicines. Thirty cases in the control group were only given Western medicines. Results The total effective rate was 96.83% in the treatment group, and 73.33% in the control group. Conclusions The combined use of acupuncture and Chinese medicines is more effective for treating menopausal syndrome.     

Treatment of Post－Menopausal Urethral Syndrome with the Formula Niao Chang Shu——A Report of 40 Cases

Post-menopausal urethral syndrome is a morbid condition characterized by frequent urination and dysuria due to changes in the bladder and urethra subsequent to lack of estrogens^1. Clinically, this syndrome is often misdiagnosed as urinary infection and mis-treated with antibiotics. Although the disease could be treated with estrogens as a replacement therapy, the potential risk of carcinogenesis and other adverse reactions discovered in recent years leads to a poor acceptance of this modality. From December 2000 to February 2003, we treated 40 cases of the disease with a formula called Niao Chang Shu Fang(尿畅舒方) and obtained satisfactory results. This is reported as follows.     

External Application of Chinese Drugs on Acupoint Shenque Combined with Salpingostomy for Treatment of Sterility Caused by Obstruction of the Fallopian Tube——A Clinical Report of 45 Cases

Objective： To observe the therapeutic effect of external application of Chinese drugs on acupoint Shenque （CV 8） combined with salpingostomy for treatment of sterility caused by obstruction of the fallopian tube. Method： 75 cases were randomly divided into the following 2 groups. Forty-five patients in the treatment group were treated with external application of Chinese drugs on acupoint Sbenque （CV 8） combined with salpingostomy, while 30 patients in the control group were treated with salpingostomy only. Results： The results showed that in the treatment group, 26 cases were cured, 11 cases improved, and 8 cases failed, with a total effective rate of 82.22%; while in the control group, 14 cases were cured, 7 cases improved, and 9 cases failed, with a total effective rate of 70.00%. There is a significant difference in the total effective rate between the two groups （P〈0.05）. Conclusion： The therapeutic effect of external application of Chinese drugs on acupoint Shenque combined with salpingostomy is better than that of salpingostomy only.

The Therapeutic Effects of Rehmannia Oral Liquid for the Syndrome of Heat Accumulation with Yin Consumption in Esophagus Cancer Patients Undergoing Radiotherapy——A Report of 60 Cases

Objective: To observe the clinical therapeutic effects of Rehmannia Oral Liquid on the syndrome of heat accumulation with Yin consumption in intermediate or late esophagus cancer patients undergoing radiotherapy. Methods: The IFN-α, TNF-α, IL-1β and TGF-β1 levels in sera were determined by the method of ABC-WLISA before and after the treatment with Rehmannia Oral Liquid. At the same time, the observation was carried out on the patient's general condition, symptoms and signs, barium meal or CT examinations, and biopsy. Another 30 cases of esophagus cancer were treated singly with radiotherapy as the control group. Results: Rehmannia Oral Liquid could obviously improve the patient's general condition, and the symptoms and signs after radiotherapy. Based on the X-ray examination and biopsy, the short-term local control rate of the treatment group and the control group was 70.0% and 40.0% respectively, showing a significant difference (P<0.05). Before the treatment, the level of serum IFN-α of both cancer groups was lower and the levels of TNF-α, IL-1β and TGF-β1 were higher than that of normal group. After treatment, the level of IFN-α in both treatment group and control group increased significantly (P<0.01), and the treatment group improved more obviously than the control group (P<0.05). The level of TNF-α of both groups decreased significantly (P<0.01) after treatment, and the level of IL-1β decreased in treatment group and increased in control group without the significant difference as compared with that before treatment. The level of TGF-β1 was significantly increased in control group (P<0.05) and decreased in treatment group (P>0.05) after treatment. The difference between groups was significant (P<0.05). Conclusion: Rehmannia Oral Liquid can obviously reduce the radiotherapy reaction, improve the quality of life, and raise the therapeutic effects. The action mechanism of the Liquid may lie in balancing the cytokine network and regulating the disordered signal transmission.
