Conventionally, fabricating a facial prosthesis requires complicated steps and sophisticated skills. Particularly, the facial impression can be uncomfortable for the patient and can cause compression because of the weight of the material. The new approach presented in this report could simplify the fabrication of facial prostheses using a noncontact three‐dimensional digitizer and binder multinozzle inkjet printer, without computed tomography or making a conventional impression. Treatment time was reduced, and the patient expressed satisfaction after 6 months follow‐up. 相似文献

Prosthodontic rehabilitation of a congenital or acquired defect of the ear is considered a challenging and skill‐dependent procedure. This technical report describes a novel approach for direct digital scanning of the unaffected contralateral ear using an intraoral scanner and external markers. The obtained digital data of the ear was exported, digitally mirrored, and successfully positioned to a virtual model of a human head with a missing ear. This technique demonstrates the potential application of CAD/CAM in the design and fabrication of an auricular prosthesis for patients with a unilateral ear defect. 相似文献

Auricular defects comprise a large proportion of maxillofacial deformities. Most patients with acquired deformities have psychosocial ineptness and seek cosmetic rehabilitation. Although minor defects can be corrected surgically, extensive deformities are difficult to reconstruct with plastic surgery. Contrary to that, prosthetic restoration can provide excellent esthetic results. The conventional methods of maxillofacial prosthesis fabrication are time consuming and the outcome depends on the technician's skill. The advent of CAD/CAM technology in the field of dentistry has brought enormous improvement in the quality of health care provided. In the past decade, several methods have been described employing CAD/CAM techniques for the cosmetic rehabilitation of auricular defects. This clinical report details the integration of multiple digital technologies of CT scanning, computer aided design, and rapid prototyping to construct an ear prosthesis with limited number of appointments. 相似文献

Rapid prototyping (RP) is a technology that produces physical models by selectively solidifying ultra violet (UV) sensitive liquid resin using a laser beam. These models can be formed using various techniques. A study was undertaken to compare the dimensional accuracy and surface details of three prototype models with a 3D STL (standard template library) image. In this study the STL file was used to produce three different rapid prototype models namely; model 1—fused deposition model (FDM) using ABS (acrylonitrile butadiene styrene), model 2—Polyjet using a clear resin and model 3—a 3 dimensional printing using a composite material. Measurements were made at various anatomical points. For surface detail reproductions the models were subjected to scanning electron microscopy analysis. The dimensions of the model created by Polyjet were closest to the 3D STL virtual image followed by the 3DP model and FDM. SEM analysis showed uniform smooth surface on Polyjet model with adequate surface details. 相似文献

There are 7 categories of additive manufacturing (AM) technologies, and a wide variety of materials can be used to build a CAD 3D object. The present article reviews the main AM processes for polymers for dental applications: stereolithography (SLA), digital light processing (DLP), material jetting (MJ), and material extrusion (ME). The manufacturing process, accuracy, and precision of these methods will be reviewed, as well as their prosthodontic applications. 相似文献

IntroductionMaxillofacial region is one of the most complicated arrangements of bony and soft tissues in human body, superiorly bounded by cranial bones and inferiorly by the mandible with interposed dentition. This is one of the reasons which make injuries to this region difficult to manage and often controversial. The severity and patterns of these injuries have changed considerably due to the increasing reliance on fast road transportation facilities and interpersonal violence.Materials and methodsThe aim of the present study is to analyze retrospectively the changing patterns of mid-face fractures in a sample of patients reporting to Department of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery in AIIMS Bhubaneswar, India, from April 2017 to April 2018. A performa was prepared which included age, sex, etiology of injury, alcohol influence, and treatment given during hospital stay.ResultsRoad traffic accidents contributed 68.11% of zygomaticomaxillary complex (ZMC) fractures, followed by assault (18.11%) and fall from height (13.76%). RTA was the major cause of atypical ZMC fractures as compared to conventional ZMC fractures (P < 0.001).DiscussionDue to modern lifestyle and changes in fast transportation, recent fracture patterns do not follow the tell-tale signs or patterns and often need unique and patient-specific treatment plan, making the skills of maxillofacial surgeons the pivotal factor in better prognosis. 相似文献
