Summary. This leakage study, in vitro , used methylene blue dye as a marker to detect the extent of apical fluid penetration after buccal roots from maxillary first bicuspids were instrumented either by the standard technique or serially, and obturated with laterally condensed gutta-percha and sealer, a single gutta-percha master cone and sealer, or sealer alone. The linear extent of dye penetration was measured after the roots were split longitudinally. In this study the laterally condensed gutta-percha and sealer technique resulted in the least apical penetration of dye. The single gutta-percha cone and sealer technique groups had less dye penetration than the groups where obturation was with sealer alone. The use of the standard or serial technique of preparing canals resulted in no significant difference in the quality of obturation using a single gutta-percha cone with sealer or using sealer alone.  相似文献

An in vitro dye leakage study was performed to compare the apical leakage of a fill with injectable calcium phosphate cement (CPC) filler/sealer and a master silver cone with leakage from a fill of Sealapex sealer and laterally condensed gutta-percha. Ten instrumented, extracted, single-rooted human teeth were obturated with either laterally condensed gutta-percha and Sealapex as the sealer or with a single master cone and the CPC paste sealer. Additional teeth were included in the study to serve as controls. The teeth were placed in 1% poly-R dye solution (pH 7.0) for 5 days. After the teeth were longitudinally sectioned apical leakage of dye was measured. There were no significant differences between the CPC and Sealapex groups. The single cone CPC procedure provided an adequate apical seal against dye penetration. Should retreatment become necessary the single cone may be removed to provide access for instrumentation.  相似文献

An in vitro dye leakage study was carried out to compare the apical microleakage of vitapex (calcium hydroxide based paste) when used with single gutta percha cone with that of dentalis KEZ (calcium hydroxide and zincoxide eugenol based sealer) and zincoxide-eugenol sealer when used with laterally condensed gutta percha obturation technique. One hundred single rooted human anterior teeth were instrumented and randomly divided into three experimental groups of 30 teeth each and two control groups of 5 teeth each. Teeth in the first group were obturated using a single master gutta percha cone and vitapex as root canal sealer and those of second group were obturated with laterally condensed gutta percha using dentalis KEZ as sealer. Third experimental group was filled with laterally condensed gutta-percha using zinc-oxide eugenol as sealer. Teeth were then suspended in 2% methylene blue. After this, teeth were demineralized dehydrated and cleared. Linear dye penetration was determined under stereomicroscope (x10) with calibrated eye piece. Results of this study showed that calcium hydroxide based endodontic material leaked comparatively less as compared to zinc oxide Eugenol sealer. Vitapex with single gutta-percha cone provided an adequate apical Seal against dye penetration.  相似文献

OBJECTIVE: To evaluate and compare the sealability and radiographic quality of root fillings in extracted teeth by using lateral condensation of gutta-percha or alpha-phase gutta-percha in conjunction with a single gutta-percha cone. STUDY DESIGN: A total of 108 single-rooted teeth were divided into 2 groups of 54 teeth based on canal shape. Canals were prepared to a minimum 0.055 taper and enlarged to a size 35 at the working distance. Irrigation was done with 17% EDTA and 2.5% sodium hypochlorite (NaOCl) to remove smear layer. One group was obturated by using cold lateral condensation of gutta-percha; the other group was obturated with thermomechanically compacted alpha-phase gutta-percha and a single cone of gutta-percha. Apical extrusion of sealer or gutta-percha was recorded. Sealability of each technique was assessed by dye penetration. The radiographic quality of obturation was also determined. RESULTS: Root canals filled with alpha-phase gutta-percha and a single cone had significantly more extrusion of sealer than canals filled by lateral condensation. Lateral condensation achieved significantly better scores for radiographic quality. There was no significant difference between the 2 filling techniques in terms of apical or coronal leakage. CONCLUSIONS: Thermomechanically condensed alpha-phase gutta-percha used in conjunction with a single gutta-percha cone had poorer radiographic quality than laterally condensed gutta-percha.  相似文献

The purpose of this study was to evaluate in vitro the apical seal of root canals prepared with a new rotary system, Anatomic Endodontic Technology (AET) and filled with a methacrylate based endodontic sealer and a single gutta-percha cone and a lateral condensation technique, using the methacrylate based endodontic sealer/filler or Grossman's cement. The root canals of 45 freshly extracted human maxillary anterior teeth were prepared and then randomly assigned to three groups of 15 teeth each. After cleaning and shaping the teeth were obturated as follows: in group 1 the canals were filled with a methacrylate based sealer and a single gutta-percha cone; in group 2 the canals were filled using a lateral condensation technique with gutta-percha and the methacrylate based sealer; and in group 3, the canals were filled by means of lateral condensation of gutta-percha and Grossman's cement (control group). The specimens were stored in 100% relative humidity at 37 degrees C for 72 h, after which the coronal portion and the root surface of each tooth was covered with three layers of nail varnish and a final layer of sticky wax. After immersion in 2% methylene blue dye for 7 days, the specimens were imbedded in clear orthodontic resin and sectioned. Dye penetration was evaluated by an independent investigator using a stereo microscope. The results demonstrated that more pronounced leakage occurred in root canals obturated with the lateral condensation technique and Grossman's cement (p < 0.05). The least amount of dye leakage was observed for group 1 and 2 in which the methacrylate based sealer was used, either with a single gutta-percha cone or with lateral condensation of gutta-percha.  相似文献

The effect on coronal leakage of the use of either a single gutta-percha cone or cold lateral condensation of gutta- percha, with a glass ionomer sealer cement was studied. In addition, the effect of the removal of the smear layer was also determined. Eighty-eight single-rooted teeth were prepared chemomechanically using hand files, with the balanced force technique. Lubrication was provided by either Hibiscrub (maintaining the smear layer) or an EDTA -containing paste (to remove the smear layer). Copious irrigation was carried out with 2.2% sodium hypochlorite. The teeth were allocated randomly to four groups of 20 teeth each, the remaining eight teeth served as controls. Two groups of teeth, one with and one without smear layer, were obturated with either a single gutta- percha cone or cold laterally condensed gutta-percha, with Ketac Endo as the sealer. The teeth were stored for 6 weeks, thermocycled, and the extent of coronal leakage determined for each group after immersion in India ink for 90 h. The teeth were demineralized, dehydrated and immersed in methyl salicylate, which rendered them transparent. Linear measurement of maximum dye penetration was recorded. The mean depth (+ SD) of leakage for the groups in which the smear layer was left intact was 1.68mm (+0.38) for the single cone (Al) and 2.29 mm (+ 1.58) for lateral condensation (Bl). When the smear layer was removed the mean depth of leakage For the single cone group (A2) was 2.04 mm (+ 0.73) and 2.37 mm (+ 1.70) for the laterally condensed group (B2). There was no significant difference in coronal leakage between the groups (P>0.05).  相似文献

The purpose of this study was to evaluate the potential of using mineral trioxide aggregate as a root canal filling material by comparing its apical sealing ability with that of laterally condensed gutta-percha with sealer and high-temperature thermoplasticized gutta-percha with sealer in extracted bovine teeth. Sixty bovine incisors with single canals were prepared in a standard manner using LightSpeed instruments, randomly divided into three groups of 20 teeth, and obturated. The sealing ability of each technique was assessed by immersion in 1% methylene blue dye for 3 days. The teeth were cleared, and the linear extent of dye penetration was measured with a stereomicroscope. Data were analyzed by the Kruskal-Wallis one-way ANOVA followed by Dunn's test. Canals filled with laterally condensed gutta-percha or thermoplasticized gutta-percha showed significantly less apical dye penetration than canals obturated with mineral trioxide aggregate (p < 0.001). There was no significant difference in leakage between the laterally condensed group and the thermoplasticized group. The results suggest that gutta-percha obturation may provide an apical seal that is superior to MTA.  相似文献

This study investigated the seal created by cold burnishing the gutta-percha exposed after apical root resection of endodontically treated teeth. Sixty single-rooted extracted human teeth with a single straight canal were divided into four experimental groups of 15 teeth each. In two of the experimental groups the canals were instrumented and obturated well with laterally condensed gutta-percha and sealer. The remaining two groups were instrumented and poorly obturated with laterally condensed gutta-percha and sealer. The apical 2 mm of all the teeth were then resected and the effect of cold burnishing the exposed gutta-percha was investigated using a linear dye penetration technique. Under the condition of this study, cold burnishing gutta-percha after apical root resection of a well-obturated root canal resulted in a poorer apical seal than if no burnishing were performed. Cold burnishing the exposed gutta-percha after apical root resection of poorly obturated root canals improved the apical seal as compared with nonburnished poorly obturated canals.  相似文献

This study evaluated the sectional gutta-percha obturation technique advocated by Lightspeed Technology, Inc. Single relatively straight-canaled teeth were prepared with rotary instruments and divided into three groups. Groups A and B served as controls and were obturated using laterally condensed gutta-percha and either Roth's 801 or Ketac-Endo sealer. Group C was obturated using the Lightspeed technique that included placement of a 5-mm apical section of gutta-percha, followed by backfill with Ketac-Endo sealer and a single gutta-percha cone. All teeth were suspended in India ink for 14 days then cleared. Four additional teeth, which were obturated as in group C then sectioned, revealed a tightly adapted apical section of gutta-percha with a very thin layer of sealer. However, voids were noted in the middle and coronal areas. There was no significant difference in apical microleakage among the three groups. The sectional method was significantly faster than lateral condensation and seems to offer promise as an effective obturation method.  相似文献

目的:比较5种根管充填糊剂的根管封闭能力。方法:选择75个直根管的恒牙,经开髓拔髓,Mtwo镍钛根管器械预备后反复冲洗后随机分为5组,分别采用实验组1:氧化锌丁香油糊剂,实验组2:Endomethasone根管充填糊剂,实验组3:Cortisomol根管充填糊剂,实验组4:Vitapex糊剂,实验组5:AH-plus糊剂,加牙胶尖严密充填。将所有离体牙置于37℃,100%湿度的恒温箱3d后选用透明牙染色法测量微渗漏深度。结果:实验组1:(2.35±0.768)mm,实验组2:(1.78±0.548)mm,实验组3:(1.54±0.322)mm,实验组4:(3.22±0.452)mm,实验组5:(0.98±0.536)mm。各组微渗漏深度值差异有显著性(P〈0.05)。其中实验组4的微渗漏值显著高于其他各组(P〈0.05),实验组5的微渗漏值显著低于其他各组(P〈0.05),实验组2的微渗漏值稍高于实验组3,结果无显著差异。结论:在Mtwo镍钛器械预备下,AH-Plus糊剂充填根管可有效的减少根管微渗漏的发生,但长远疗效有待进一步的观察。  相似文献

This study compared the apical leakage of roots obturated with gutta-percha using either a dual-cure resin based cement (Panavia F) or an epoxy-resin sealer (Thermaseal plus) with or without the application of an acidic primer (ED Primer). Eighty-six single rooted canine teeth were decoronated, cleaned, and shaped by using hand and rotary instruments, randomly divided into four groups, and obturated as follows: group A (n = 20): ED Primer applied followed by thermoplastized obturation with gutta-percha and Thermaseal Plus sealer; group B (n = 20): thermoplastized obturation with gutta-percha and Thermaseal Plus; group C (n = 20): ED primer applied followed by thermoplastized obturation with gutta-percha and Panavia F; group D (n = 20): thermoplastized obturation with gutta-percha and Panavia F. Both a negative control (n = 3; entire root coated with wax) and a positive control (n = 3; obturated with only a fitted master cone) were included in the study. Groups A, B, C, D, and the controls were immersed in molten sticky wax, leaving the apical 2-mm exposed, and quickly chilled. All teeth were immersed in 1% methylene blue dye solution for 10 days, rinsed, and sectioned longitudinally. Apical dye penetration was measured stereomicroscopically at 10-fold magnification. The analysis of variance and Duncan Multiple Range were used for result analysis. The specimens obturated with gutta-percha and an epoxy-resin sealer (with or without an acidic primer) demonstrated significantly less linear dye penetration than specimens obturated with gutta-percha and the dual-cure, resin-based cement (with or without an acidic primer).  相似文献

We tested the hypothesis that AH Plus and Roeko Seal Automix (RSA) sealers alone are no less effective in preventing coronal microleakage than gutta-percha compacted with sealer. Freshly prepared sheep incisor root canals were obturated with warm gutta-percha alone, AHPlus or RSA alone, or warm gutta-percha with AH Plus or RSA (n = 20 each group). Coronal leakage was assessed under vacuum conditions with Indian ink and tooth clearing. Sealer-only backfills with AH Plus and RSA yielded significantly more dye-free canals than backfills of gutta-percha alone or with sealer (p < 0.001). Warm gutta-percha with or without sealer kept no more canals sealer free than the positive control. Mean dye penetration was 0.92% of canal length for AH Plus and RSA backfills, 27.42% for gutta-percha only backfills, 26.47% for gutta-percha with RSA and 13.92% for gutta-percha with AH Plus. Sealer only backfills allowed significantly less leakage than those including warm gutta-percha (p < 0.001). Sealer-only backfills may be a viable alternative to traditional gutta-percha and sealer compaction methods.  相似文献

Summary. The quality of the apical seal using the single cone gutta-percha obturation technique with four different dentinal bonding agents was assessed by measuring the linear penetration of methylene blue dye. No leakage was measurable in 75 per cent of the canals sealed with Scotchbond, 70 per cent of canals sealed with Restodent, 60 per cent of canals sealed with Dentin-Adhesit, and in 30 per cent of canals sealed with GLUMA. The mean linear dye penetration in canals sealed with these agents was 0.32, 1.95, 0.57 and 2.41mm, respectively. There was no statistically significant difference between the single cone gutta-percha technique and the laterally condensed gutta-percha technique when Scotchbond was used as sealer ( P > 0.01).  相似文献

AIM: To compare the area occupied by gutta-percha, sealer, or void in standardized .06 tapered prepared simulated curved canals and in mesio-buccal canals of extracted maxillary first molars filled with a single .06 gutta-percha point and sealer or lateral condensation of multiple .02 gutta-percha points and sealer. METHODOLOGY: Simulated canals in resin blocks with either a 30 degrees curve and radius of 10.5 mm (n = 20) or a 58 degrees curve and 4.7 mm radius (n = 20) and curved mesio-buccal canals of extracted maxillary first molars (n = 20) were prepared using .06 ProFiles in a variable tip crown-down sequence to an apical size 35 at 0.5 mm from the canal terminus or apical foramen. Ten 30 degrees and 58 degrees curved resin canals and 10 canals in the extracted teeth group were obturated with .02 taper gutta-percha cones and AH 26 sealer using lateral condensation. The time required to obturate was recorded. The remaining canals were obturated with a single .06 taper gutta-percha cone and AH 26 sealer. Excess gutta-percha was removed from the specimens using heat and the warm mass vertically condensed. Horizontal sections were cut at 0.5, 1.5, 2.5, 4.5, 7.5 and 11.5 mm from the canal terminus or apical foramen. Colour photographs were taken using an Olympus 35 mm camera attached to a stereomicroscope set at x40 magnification, and then digitized using a flatbed scanner. The cross-sectional area of the canal contents was analysed using Adobe PhotoShop. The percentage of gutta-percha, sealer or voids to the total root canal area were derived and data analysed using unpaired Student's t-test and the Mann-Whitney U-test. RESULTS: In the 30 degrees curved canals the levels had between 94 and 100% of the area filled with gutta-percha with no significant difference (P > 0.05) between the lateral condensation and single cone techniques. In the 58 degrees curved canals the levels had 92-99% of the area filled with gutta-percha, with the single cone technique having significantly (P < 0.05) more gutta-percha fill at the 2.5 mm level only. In the mesio-buccal canals of the teeth the levels had between 72 and 96% of the area filled with gutta-percha with no significant difference (P > 0.05) between the lateral condensation and single cone technique. The time for obturation was significantly (P < 0.05) greater for lateral condensation compared with the single cone technique in all groups. CONCLUSIONS: The .06 taper single cone technique was comparable with lateral condensation in the amount of gutta-percha occupying a prepared .06 tapered canal. The .06 single cone technique was faster than lateral condensation.  相似文献

OBJECTIVES: In this in vitro study, the core (gutta-percha or gutta-percha and carrier)/sealer ratio and the sealing ability were calculated for 4 different gutta-percha techniques: Thermafil, JS Quick-Fill, System B, and lateral condensation. STUDY DESIGN: One hundred single-rooted teeth were instrumented and obturated. Forty of the teeth were embedded in resin and sectioned horizontally at 1, 2,3, and 4 mm from the anatomic apex. Photographs were taken of each section, and the total area of the canal filled with core material or sealer was calculated. Sixty of the teeth were kept in wet storage for 90 days, after which the teeth were immersed in 2% methylene blue for 48 hours. The length of dye penetration was measured. RESULTS: Roots obturated with Thermafil and JS Quick-Fill contained significantly more core material than did those obturated with System B or with lateral condensation. The lateral condensation technique had the lowest core/sealer ratio (P < .05). Roots using Thermafil and Quick-Fill showed significantly less dye leakage than did the lateral condensation technique. CONCLUSIONS: Through use of these techniques in vitro, Thermafil and JS Quick-Fill with carrier and System B were found to be superior to the lateral condensation technique in terms of core/sealer ratio. Thermafil and Quick-Fill were superior to lateral condensation in terms of dye leakage.  相似文献

The aim of this in vitro study was to compare the sealing ability of Resilon/Epiphany to gutta-percha and Roth or AH Plus sealers. Leakage of the obturated roots was measured using the fluid filtration technique. There were eight groups of 12 teeth each. Group 1: obturated with Resilon/Epiphany; group 2: obturated with gutta-percha/Roth, allowed to set for 3 wk; group 3: obturated with gutta-percha/Roth; group 4: obturated with Resilon/Epiphany using a single cone; group 5: obturated with Resilon cones without using primer/sealer (positive control); group 6: obturated with gutta-percha/AH Plus; group 7: same as group 6, but allowed to set for 8 h; and group 8: sealed on the outside with three layers of nail varnish (negative control). The results showed that only the positive control (group 5) leaked significantly more (p < 0.05) than the other groups. There was no effect of time on leakage. Resilon/Epiphany was no better than gutta-percha/Roth or gutta-percha/AH Plus at sealing root canals.  相似文献

In this study the sealing ability of a new urethane methacrylate resin-based sealer, EndoRez, was evaluated using a fluid-filtration model. Sixty-four single-rooted lower bicuspids were decoronated, instrumented, and divided into 3 groups of 20 each with 4 teeth used as controls. In group A, the roots were obturated with EndoRez and a single cone of gutta-percha, group B with AH Plus and a single cone of gutta-percha, and group C was obturated using gutta-percha with warm vertical compaction and AH Plus sealer. All specimens were allowed to set for 7 days in 100% humidity at 37 degrees C. The groups were compared for differences in the amount of leakage (mm/h) using a Chi-square test. The leakage of group A was significantly higher at p = 0.01 than the other two groups. There was no significant difference in leakage between groups B and C.  相似文献

The purpose of this in vitro study was to examine the coronal leakage of canals medicated with Ca(OH)(2) compared with the canals which did not receive Ca(OH)(2) medication before obturation with laterally condensed gutta-percha points and sealer. Sixty-one single rooted permanent canines and premolars were used. The crowns were removed from the cemento-enamel junction. After the canals were chemomechanically prepared, the roots were divided into three experimental groups as group 1, 2 and 3. The canals in group 1 and 2 were treated with ethylenediaminetetraacetic acid (EDTA) and NaOCl in order to remove the smear layer and then the canals were filled with Ca(OH)(2) paste. The coronal 3 mm of the cavities were sealed with Cavit and the samples were kept in an incubator at 37 degrees C for 7 days. No intra-canal medication was applied in group 3. The root canals were irrigated with NaOCl in group 1 and with EDTA and NaOCl in group 2, in order to remove Ca(OH)(2) before obturation. Two samples from group 1 and two from group 2 were examined under SEM in order to reveal the removal of Ca(OH)(2) paste. Following this, the canals in the experimental groups were obturated with gutta-percha and sealer. The roots were placed in India ink for 7 days and the linear dye penetration was evaluated. No significant statistical difference was found in the amount of coronal dye leakage between experimental groups (P > 0.05). The results of the present study indicated that the application of Ca(OH)(2) as a temporary dressing material had no effect on coronal leakage.  相似文献
