BackgroundTo investigate the sensitivity and specificity of optical coherence tomography angiography (OCTA) versus dye angiography for detecting pachychoroid neovasculopathy (PNV) and to determine the morphological factors that affect PNV detection.MethodsPatients with pachychoroid phenotype were prospectively enrolled and underwent multimodal imaging examinations during the same visit. The diagnostic accuracy of fundus fluorescein angiography (FFA), FFA combined with indocyanine green angiography (ICGA) and OCTA for PNV was evaluated using multimodal imaging as the reference. Multimodal parameters of PNV were qualitatively and quantitatively assessed.ResultsPNV was detected in 58 eyes (46 patients) out of 340 pachychoroid eyes (201 patients) according to reference standard. Patients with PNV eyes were significantly older (54.6±7.56 vs. 48.2±9.1 years), were more likely to have a chronic central serous chorioretinopathy history (CSC) (93.1% vs. 12.4%) and had a worse visual acuity (0.30±0.22 vs. 0.58±0.30) than those without PNV eyes (all P<0.001). The sensitivity of FFA, FFA combined with ICGA, and OCTA in detecting PNV in patients with the pachychoroid phenotype was 67.2%, 63.8% and 98.3%, respectively, and the specificity was 87.2%, 96.8% and 100.0%, respectively. PNV not identified by dye angiography was more manifested as the absence of late plaque hypercyanescence on ICGA (P<0.001) and overall smaller capillaries without a distinct pattern (P=0.001), fewer core vessels (P=0.002) and smaller area (P=0.044).ConclusionsOCTA showed superior detection rate and accuracy for identifying PNV over dye angiography. In case multimodal imaging is unavailable, OCTA can be an effective and noninvasive method for monitoring PNV and guiding treatment decisions.  相似文献

BackgroundTo investigate the changes in retinal and choriocapillaris vessel density (VD) in patients effected by early age-related macular degeneration (AMD) and reticular pseudodrusen (RPD), using Optical Coherence Tomography Angiography (OCTA).MethodsA total of seventy-eight eyes of 78 patients (43 male, 35 female, mean age 72.61 ± 5.15) with non-neovascular AMD (38 eyes with early AMD and 40 eyes with RPD) was recruited in this observational prospective study. Forty eyes of 40 healthy subjects represented the control group. The VD was measured in superficial capillary plexus (SCP), deep capillary plexus (DCP) and choriocapillaris in different macular regions.ResultsThere were no significant differences in VD of the SCP and DCP among the controls and the two study groups (p > 0.05). The VD of the choriocapillaris revealed a statistically significant reduction in early AMD and RPD groups respect to controls (p < 0.001). Furthermore, the patients with RPD showed a significantly decreased VD respect to patients with early AMD in different macular regions (p < 0.001).ConclusionsThe quantitative analysis of retinal and choriocapillaris blood flow by OCTA provided useful information regarding the vascular changes in non-neovascular AMD patients suggesting that the choriocapillaris loss is mainly involved in the pathogenesis of RPD.  相似文献

BackgroundTo investigate and compare the peripapillary and macular microvascular parameters between eyes with primary angle closure glaucoma (PACG) and primary open-angle glaucoma (POAG) using optical coherence tomography angiography (OCTA).MethodsSeventy-nine eyes of 43 patients with primary angle closure glaucoma (PACG), 78 eyes of 43 patients with primary open-angle glaucoma (POAG), 64 eyes of 35 patients with primary angle closure (PAC), and 73 eyes of 40 control subjects underwent imaging with OCTA. Perfusion density (PD) and vessel density (VD) for the macular area, and PD and flux index (FI) for the peripapillary area were calculated automatically. The area under receiver operator characteristic curves (AUC) were constructed to distinguish PACG and POAG eyes from healthy control eyes.ResultsThe peripapillary FI in all quadrants and PD and VD of the macular outer circle in superior and inferior quadrants were significantly lower in PACG and POAG eyes than in control eyes. The peripapillary FI in the inferior quadrant was significantly lower in the POAG group than in the PACG group (0.348 ± 0.06 vs. 0.369 ± 0.06, p = 0.04). The remaining OCTA parameters in the peripapillary and macular area did not show a significant difference between the POAG and PACG groups. Eyes with PAC presented significantly lower PD and VD than healthy control eyes at the superior and inferior quadrant of the macular outer circle, while retinal nerve fiber layer and ganglion cell inner complex thickness were not significantly different from than control eyes. The best diagnostic parameter was peripapillary FI in both PACG (AUC: 0.922) and POAG (AUC: 0.938) eyes.ConclusionsWe found significantly lower peripapillary FI in the inferior quadrant in POAG eyes compared to the PACG eyes, which may indicate the different underlying pathogenesis between POAG and PACG. The PAC eyes had lower macular PD and VD than normal eyes. This suggests that retinal vascular impairment may develop earlier than structural damage in PAC eyes.  相似文献

BackgroundUsing OCT and OCTA imaging, we aimed to determine whether COVID-19 induces pathological changes in vascular and morphological structures in the pediatric retina.MethodsThe current prospective, cross-sectional, observational clinical study included recovered pediatric patients with COVID-19 evaluated between May 2020 and June 2020. Retinal vascular (radial peripapillary, superficial, and deep capillary plexus vessel densities) and morphological (peripapillary retinal nerve fiber, ganglion cell layer, retinal, and choroidal thickness) in the optic disk and macula regions were quantitively assessed using OCT and OCTA. Data were compared between COVID-19 patients and age-matched controls.ResultsThe COVID-19 group included 32 eyes of 16 patients and the control group included 32 eyes of 16 cases. Fundus and biomicroscopic examinations revealed no signs of pathology in the COVID-19 group. Mean peripapillary retinal nerve fiber, ganglion cell layer, and choroidal thickness values were significantly greater in the COVID-19 group than in the control group (p<0.05). OCTA indicated that mean superficial and deep capillary plexus vessel densities, and choriocapillaris flow area values were significantly lower in the COVID-19 group than in the control group, whereas mean radial peripapillary capillary plexus vessel density values were significantly higher (p<0.05).ConclusionsEven if fundus examination results appear normal in pediatric patients with COVID-19, vascular and morphological changes may be observed in the retina. Further studies with larger numbers of patients are needed to elucidate the clinical significance of vascular and morphological changes in this population.  相似文献

Purpose: To evaluate the characteristics of vascular density (VD) of the retinal capillary plexuses in idiopathic macular hole (IMH), the fellow eye, and healthy control eyes by optical coherence tomography angiography (OCTA).Methods: A retrospective cases series study involving 20 unilateral eyes (20 patients) with IMH, the unaffected fellow eyes (n = 20) and 20 health controls, with age- and sex-matched, was conducted in Shanxi Eye Hospital from January 2019 to December 2021. VD of the retinal capillary plexuses measurements were obtained by OCTA.Results: Four quadrants of superficial capillary plexuses (SCP) in IMH eyes were not significant compared with that in the unaffected fellow eyes (all P > 0.05). The four quadrants of deep capillary plexuses (DCP) in IMH eyes were lower than that in the unaffected fellow eyes (all P < 0.05). Different regions retinal thickness in the IMH eyes was higher than that in the unaffected fellow eyes (all P < 0.05). a significant negative correlation between deep vessel density and retinal thickness in different quadrants among IMH eyes (all P < 0.05). Additionally, the correlation between the vascular density of SCP and retinal thickness was significant in macular fovea area (= 0.519, P = 0.019). <0.001.Conclusions: The morphology of retina and choroid in idiopathic macular hole is different from that in fellow eye. The thickness of choroid in the fovea area of the unaffected eye also showed a decreasing trend. Taken together, the mechanism of macular hole may be further understood, that is, the decrease of choroid thickness may occur before the macular hole formation. It was verified again that the choroidal blood flow area in macular fovea of IMH patients was significantly lower than that in fellow eyes and healthy eyes.  相似文献

PurposeThe aim of this study was to evaluate the ocular disorders in COVID-19 patients, two to three months after infection.MethodsIn this cross-sectional, historically controlled study, fifty-one COVID-19 patients were compared with thirty-seven age, and gender-matched healthy individuals. After complete ophthalmological examination, all participants underwent peripapillary and macular optical coherence tomography, and optical coherence tomography angiography (OCTA) measurements (OptoVue Inc, Freemont, CA, USA).ResultsThe time between the initial onset of symptoms, and ophthalmologic examination was 63.31±15.21 (40–95 days). Ophthalmic examination of all the recovered COVID-19 patients was within normal range. None of the peripapillary and macular OCTA parameters were significantly different between the two groups with pairwise comparisons, but after adjusting for age, gender, axial length, and signal strength index (SSI), recovered COVID-19 eyes showed a significant increase in peripapillary retinal nerve fiber (RNFL) thickness, superficial, and deep macular vessel densities in parafoveal and perifoveal regions compared with healthy control eyes (p<= 0.05). Inner retinal thickness overall is higher in recovered COVID-19 eyes compared to healthy eyes after adjustment.ConclusionPatients with moderate-intensity SARS-CoV-2 pneumonia had altered peripapillary and macular vessel density compared to healthy subjects. Further investigation is warranted to analyze the correlation of these changes with disease severity as well as evolution of these changes over time.  相似文献

BackgroundPostural sway during quiet standing has been shown as a useful task to assess risk of falling in older adults. While the risk of falling is consistently reported to be higher in older females than males, the sex-related differences in postural sway are not consistent across the studies.Research questionWhat are the effects of age and sex on postural sway during quiet standing during different stance conditions?MethodsWe examined the effects of age (40 young and 34 older adults), sex (37 males and 37 females), and their interaction on the postural sway during different stance conditions. We compared the center of pressure (CoP) velocity, amplitude and frequency during parallel (eyes open and eyes closed) and semi-tandem (eyes open) stances.ResultsOur results suggest that postural sway is similar between sexes in young participants, while older males exhibit larger postural sway than older female participants (10/21 outcomes). Older female participants exhibited lower CoP amplitude (but larger total and anterior-posterior CoP velocity) compared to young female participants. We also found that the increase in the postural sway with increasing task difficulty is more pronounced in older vs. young adults.SignificanceThis study shows that ageing-related changes in postural sway are sex- and task-specific. Researchers and clinicians need to be aware of these effects when comparing groups or monitoring changes in time.  相似文献

BackgroundOcular involvement is common in transfusion-dependent beta-thalassemia (TDβ-T) patients. We aimed to investigate the effect of splenectomy on optical coherence tomography angiography (OCTA) findings in TDβ-T patients.MethodsThe study is a prospective cross-sectional study. A total of 45 eyes of 23 patients with splenectomy (34.04±8.83 years), 18 eyes of 9 patients without splenectomy (27.44±5.43 years), and 54 eyes of 27 controls (33.22±6.44 years) were included. Vessel density in superficial capillary plexus, deep capillary plexus and radial peripapillary capillary, foveal avascular zone, choriocapillaris flow area, choroidal and retinal thickness detected by OCTA were evaluated. p < 0.05 was considered significant.ResultsVessel density of superficial capillary plexus and deep capillary plexus were similar in patients with and without splenectomy, and controls. Choriocapillaris flow area was significantly decreased in patients with splenectomy than that in those without splenectomy and controls (2.02±0.12 vs. 2.17±0.1 and 2.14±0.12; p < 0.001). Choroidal thickness was significantly lower in patients without splenectomy than in patients with splenectomy and controls (260.05±61.02 vs. 305.11±42.13 and 298.89±29.14, p = 0.008). Parafoveal and perifoveal thickness of the full retina and outer retina were significantly lower in patients without splenectomy than in patients with splenectomy and controls (301.06±10.0, 279.78±10.28 vs. 311.04±14.89, 290.87±13.67 and 316.63±13.57, 289.56±9.31, p < 0.001 and p = 0.002; 174.72±7.81, 167.17±6.21 vs. 182.87±8.81, 173.60±7.09 and 185.11±9.26, 173.96±6.79, p = 0.001 and p < 0.001, respectively).ConclusionsOCTA findings can provide information about the microvascular effects of splenectomy on the retina of patients with TDβ-T.  相似文献

BackgroundReading text messages is associated with accidents while walking in community places.Research questionTo what extent does reading text messages at different stages of obstacle circumvention affect avoidance strategies while walking in young vs. older adults?MethodsSixteen healthy young and 14 older adults were assessed while walking and viewing a virtual environment (VE) simulating a subway station with three virtual pedestrians positioned 7.5 m away from the participant in the centre (0°), left and right (±40°). As participants advanced 0.5 m towards a target in the far space, a virtual pedestrian randomly approached them. Text messages were delivered at onset of pedestrian movement (0.5 m; early message) or during obstacle circumvention (2.5 m; late message). A Vicon motion capture system captured trajectory displacement while walking.ResultsIn both age groups, accuracy of message report (AMR) was reduced for early compared to late messages (p < 0.001), although older adults showed larger deterioration (p < 0.001) compared to younger participants. Locomotor outcomes (obstacle clearance, onset time of avoidance and walking speed) showed no differences between young and older participants (p > 0.05). Early messages led to slower walking speed (p < 0.001) and more frequent collisions compared to late messages and the no-message condition. Late messages yielded faster walking speed (p < 0.001) and onset time of avoidance (p < 0.02) compared to the other conditions.SignificanceResults indicate that the stage of an avoidance strategy at which text messages are received impacts on pedestrian circumvention, with early messages posing a greater challenge to collision avoidance. In older adults, the reduced AMR suggests larger dual-task interference and prioritization of the walking task. The lack of further walking speed reduction in older vs. young adults may put them at greater risk of collisions in crowded, unpredictable community environments.  相似文献

BackgroundHarmonic ratios (HRs), recurrence quantification analysis in the antero-posterior direction (RQAdetAP), and stride length coefficient of variation (CV) have recently been shown to characterize gait abnormalities and fall risk in people with Parkinson's disease (pwPD) at moderate disease stages.Research questionThis study aimed to i) assess the internal and external responsiveness to rehabilitation of HR, RQAdetAP, and CV, ii) identify the baseline predictors of normalization of the gait stability indexes, and iii) investigate the correlations between the gait indexes modifications (∆) and clinical and kinematic ∆s in pwPD at Hoehn and Yahr disease staging classification 3.MethodsThe trunk acceleration patterns of 21 pwPD and 21 age- and speed-matched healthy subjects (HSmatched) were acquired during gait using an inertial measurement unit at baseline (T0). pwPD were also assessed after a 4-week rehabilitation period (T1).Each participant's HR in the antero-posterior (HRAP), medio-lateral (HRML), and vertical directions, RQAdetAP, CV, spatio-temporal, and kinematic variables were calculated.ResultsAt T1, HRAP and HRML improved to normative values and showed high internal and external responsiveness. Lower HRs and higher pelvic rotation values at baseline were predictors of ∆HRs. A minimal clinically important difference (MCID) ≥ 21.5 % is required to normalize HRAP with 95 % probability. MCID ≥ 36.9 % is required to normalize HRML with 92 % probability. ∆HRAP correlated with ∆HRML and both correlated with ∆stride length and ∆pelvic rotation, regardless of ∆gait speed. RQAdetAP and step length CV were not responsive to rehabilitation.SignificanceWhen using inertial measurement units, HRAP and HRML can be considered as responsive outcome measures for assessing the effectiveness of rehabilitation on trunk smoothness during walking in pwPD at moderate disease stages.  相似文献

BackgroundControl of body orientation requires head motion detection by the vestibular system and small changes with respect to the gravitational acceleration vector could cause destabilization.Research questionWe aimed to compare the effects of different head orientations on gait stability in young adults, dancers and older adults.MethodsThree groups of 10 subjects were evaluated, the first composed of young adults (aged 18–30 years), the second composed of young healthy dancers under high performance dance training (aged 18–30 years), and the third group composed of community-dwelling older adults (aged 65–80 years). Participants walked on a treadmill at their preferred speed in four distinct head orientation conditions for four minutes each: control (neutral orientation); dynamic yaw (following a target over 45° bilaterally); up (15° neck extension), and down (40° neck flexion). Foot and trunk kinematic data were acquired using a 3D motion capture system and the gait pattern was assessed by basic gait parameters (step length, stride width and corresponding variability) and gait stability (local divergence exponents and margins of stability). Main effects of conditions and groups, as well as their interaction effects, were evaluated by repeated-measures analysis of variance.ResultsInteractions of group and head orientation were found for both step length and stride width variability; main effects of head orientation were found for all evaluated parameters and main effects of group were found for step length and its variability and local divergence exponents in all directions.SignificanceAs expected, the older adults group showed less stable gait (higher local divergence exponent), the shortest step length and greater step length variability. However, contrary to expectation, the dancers were not more stable. The yaw condition was the most challenging for all groups and the down condition seemed to be least challenging.  相似文献

PurposeWe aimed to compare COVID-19 imaging findings of young adults (19–35 years of age) with those of children (0–18 years) and to correlate imaging findings of young adults with their laboratory tests.Materials and methodsThis retrospective study included Real Time-Polymerase Chain Reaction (RT-PCR) confirmed 130 young adults (mean age: 28.39 ± 4.77; 65 male, 65 female) and 36 children (mean age: 12.41 ± 4.51; 17 male, 19 female), between March and June 2020. COVID-19 related imaging findings on chest CT were examined in young adults and compared with children by the Mann-Whitney U, and Chi-square or Fisher's exact test. Laboratory examinations of young adults were assessed in terms of correlation with radiological findings by the Spearman's correlation analysis.ResultsBilateral multiple distributions (p = 0.014), subpleural involvement, and pleural thickening (p = 0.004), GGOs with internal consolidations were more frequent in adults (p = 0.009). Infiltrations were significantly larger than 20 mm in young adults (p = 0.011). The rates of feeding vessel sign, vascular enlargement, and halo sign were significantly higher in young adults (p < 0.003). Highly significant positive correlations were found between radiological and biochemical parameters.ConclusionDistribution, size, and pattern of COVID-19 related imaging findings differed in children and young adults. Radiological findings were correlated with biochemical parameters but not with blood count results of young adults.  相似文献

PurposeExfoliative material has been shown to accumulate in ocular and systemic tissues. We aimed to perform a systematic review and meta-analysis of the current literature evaluating optic nerve head vessel density (VD) using optical coherence tomography angiography (OCTA) in patients with XFS and XFG.MethodsStudies were retrieved from PubMed, Scopus, and Web of Science databases. Studies comparing patients with XFS and/or XFG patients to healthy controls, using the optic nerve head-centred 4.5 × 4.5 mm square OCTA scan protocol were included. Pooled results are presented as standardised mean differences with 95% confidence intervals (CI). Meta-regression analysis was performed between mean difference in circumpapillary VD between XFG and controls and mean pRNFL thickness in patients with XFG.ResultsFifteen studies with 1475 eyes were included in this review. Whole image VD and circumpapillary VD (cpVD) were significantly decreased in patients with XFS [−0.78(95% Cl: −1.08, −0.47); −0.55(95% Cl: −0.80, −0.30); respectively] and XFG [−1.85(95% CI: −2.33, −1.36); −1.84 (95% CI: −2.30, −1.39); respectively] compared to healthy controls. Furthermore, pRNFL thickness decreased in patients with XFS [−0.55(95% Cl: −0.72, −0.35)] and XFG [−1.78(95% Cl: −2.21, −1.36)] compared to healthy controls. Meta-regression showed that pRNFL thickness decreased with increasing mean cpVD difference in XFG patients compared to healthy controls.ConclusionsOCTA provides non-invasive, objective and reproducible assessment of peripapillary VD and is important for the detection of vasculopathy in patients with XFS or XFG. This study provides strong evidence for decreased cpVD in the eyes of patients with XFS and XFG.  相似文献

ObjectivesTo compare the effect of a single bout of morning vs. evening exercise on cardiovascular risk factors in adults.DesignSystematic review and meta-analysis.MethodsA systematic search of studies was conducted using PubMed and Web of Science from inception to June 2022. Selected studies accomplished the following criteria: crossover design, acute effect of exercise, blood pressure, blood glucose, and/or blood lipids as the study's endpoint, a washout period of at least 24 h, and adults. Meta-analysis was performed by analyzing: 1) separated effect of morning and evening exercise (pre vs. post); and 2) comparison between morning and evening exercise.ResultsA total of 11 studies were included for systolic and diastolic blood pressure and 10 studies for blood glucose. Meta-analysis revealed no significant difference between morning vs. evening exercise for systolic blood pressure (g ∆ = 0.02), diastolic blood pressure (g ∆ = 0.01), or blood glucose (g ∆ = 0.15). Analysis of moderator variables (age, BMI, sex, health status, intensity and duration of exercise, and hour within the morning or evening) showed no significant morning vs. evening effect.ConclusionsOverall, we found no influence of the time of the day on the acute effect of exercise on blood pressure neither on blood glucose.  相似文献

BackgroundFrailty is a common geriatric syndrome and is characterized by decreased physiological reserve and increased vulnerability towards adverse health outcomes including falls. Turning is a challenging task and is reported to be one of the daily activities that leads to falling in older populations.Research questionDoes 180° walking turns and 360° turning on the spot differ among frail, pre-frail, and non-frail older adults? Can 180° walking turns and 360° turning on the spot cutoffs discriminate older adults with frailty from those without?MethodsA cross-sectional study was conducted on community-dwelling older adults aged over 65 years. Frailty was assessed using Fried's phenotype method, and turning tasks were measured by inertial sensors. The turn duration (s) and angular velocity (°/s) were recorded for analysis.ResultsIn total, 109 participants were enrolled including 50 pre-frail and 12 frail individuals. Frail older adults took significantly longer and had slower angular velocities to complete the 180° and 360° turning than did either pre-frail (p = 0.002 and p < 0.001, respectively) or non-frail (p = 0.03 and p < 0.001, respectively) older adults. Cutoff times of 2.45 and 3.46 s were found to best discriminate frail people from those without frailty in both the 180° (sensitivity 83.3 %, specificity 71.1 %, area under the receiver operating characteristic curve (AUC) 0.796) and 360° (sensitivity 91.7 %, specificity 74.2 %, AUC 0.857) turn tasks.SignificanceOlder individuals with frailty syndrome had difficulty turning as evidenced by a longer turning duration and a slower angular velocity. The turn duration could be a potential biomarker of frailty in older populations. Assessing the turning performance can facilitate early detection of the onset of frailty and inform early prevention and rehabilitation interventions in clinical practice.  相似文献

BackgroundIn addition to motor deficits, Parkinson's disease (PD) may cause perceptual impairments. The role of perceptual impairments in sensorimotor function is unclear, and has typically been studied in single-joint motions.Research questionWe hypothesized that perception of whole-body motion is impaired in PD and contributes to balance impairments. We tested (1) whether directional acuity to whole body perturbations during standing was worse in people with PD compared to neurotypical older adults (NOA), and (2) whether balance ability, as assessed by the MiniBESTest, was associated with poor directional acuity in either group.MethodsParticipants were exposed to pairs of support-surface translation perturbations in a two-alternative forced choice testing paradigm developed previously in a young healthy population. The first perturbation of each pair that was to be judged by participants was directly backward, and the second perturbation deviated from the left or right from the backward direction by 1°–44°. Participants reported whether the perturbations in each pair were in the “same” or “different” direction. Judgements from 24 to 67 perturbation pairs were used to calculate directional acuity thresholds corresponding to “just-noticeable differences” in perturbation direction. Linear mixed models determined associations between directional thresholds and clinical variables including MDS-UPDRS-III score, age, and MiniBESTest score.Results20 PD (64 ± 7 y, 12 male, ≥12 h since last intake of antiparkinsonian medications) and 12 NOA (64 ± 8, 6 male) were assessed. Directional thresholds were higher (worse) among PD participants (17.6 ± 5.9° vs. 12.8 ± 3.3°, P < 0.01). Linear mixed models further showed that higher thresholds were associated with MDS-UPDRS-III score (P < 0.01), and were associated with poorer balance ability among PD participants (P < 0.01), but not among NOA participants (P = 0.40).SignificancePerception of whole-body motion is impaired in PD and may contribute to impaired balance and falls.  相似文献

BackgroundFew studies have investigated the effect of violet LED irradiation associated or not with bleaching agents on blood-stained teeth. This in vitro study aimed to evaluate the whitening efficacy and color stability of non-vital dental bleaching using 35% hydrogen peroxide (HP) photoactivated with violet LED (VL) compared to 35% HP alone and 35% HP photoactivated with blue LED (BL).MethodsFifty bovine dental crowns were used to obtain specimens of 5 × 5 × 2 mm. After selection based on a previous colorimetric analysis, the specimens were blood-stained and randomly assigned into five groups (n = 10): control (no treatment); 35% HP, 35% HP/BL; 35% HP/VL; and VL. Three bleaching sessions were performed and the colorimetric analysis (∆Eab, ∆L, and ∆WID) was recorded after 7 days, 30 days, and 9 months of the last bleaching session. Two-way repeated measures ANOVA followed by Bonferroni post-hoc test was used at a significance level of 5%.Results35% HP, 35% HP/BL, and 35% HP/VL showed higher values of ∆Eab, ∆L, e ∆WID (P < 0.05), without intra- and intergroup differences (P > 0.05). C and VL were similar in all the evaluation times (P > 0.05), showing lower values of ∆Eab, ∆L, and ∆WID (P < 0.05).Conclusions35% HP/VL can be a viable alternative for dental bleaching in endodontically-treated teeth, showing bleaching efficacy similar to 35% HP solely used, even after a 9-month follow-up. BackgroundIntegration of visual, vestibular, and proprioceptive sensations contributes to postural control. People with peripheral visual field loss have serious postural instability. However, the directional specificity of postural stability and sensory reweighting caused by gradual peripheral visual field loss remain unclear.Research questionWhat are the effects of peripheral visual field loss on static postural control?MethodsFifteen healthy young adults participated in this study. The participants were asked to stand quietly on a foam surface. Three conditions of virtual visual field loss (90°, 45°, and 15°) were provided by a head-mounted display, and ground reaction forces were collected using a force plate to calculate the displacements of the center of pressure (COP).ResultsThe root mean square (RMS), mean velocity, and 95% ellipse area of COP displacements in the horizontal plane increased, and RMS in the anteroposterior (AP) direction was unchanged under the smallest visual field condition compared to the largest one. The power spectrum density of COP displacements in the low-frequency band was decreased and that in the medium-frequency band was increased in the AP direction.SignificanceDuring quiet standing of young healthy adults with peripheral visual field loss, increased peripheral visual field loss resulted in lower postural stability. Postural stability in the AP direction was maintained contrary to the functional sensitivity hypothesis. Peripheral visual field loss reduced the weighting of the visual input and increased that of the vestibular input in the AP direction to maintain equilibrium.  相似文献

BackgroundTo investigate changes in retinochoroidal microvascular morphology after caffeinated versus decaffeinated coffee consumption in age- and gender-matched healthy individuals using optical coherence tomography (OCT) and OCT angiography (OCTA).MethodsIn this prospective, randomized clinical study, a staff member in charge of record keeping randomly assigned 48 healthy volunteers to two groups: caffeinated coffee consumers (24 eyes) and decaffeinated coffee consumers (24 eyes). Participants' ages and genders were recorded before consumption, and a comprehensive ophthalmologic exam was performed, followed by OCT and OCTA analyses before, 30 min, one, six, and 24 h after blindly consuming either of the coffees.ResultsCaffeinated and decaffeinated coffee consumers had mean ages of 23.45 ± 0.92 and 22.73 ± 1.13, respectively (p = 0.407). The following parameters changed significantly in caffeinated coffee consumers 30 min and 1 h post-consumption (pre-consumption versus 30 min versus one hour post-consumption; p < 0.05): a) parafoveal superficial capillary plexus vessel density (%): 54.45 versus 51.8 versus 51.92, b) parafoveal deep capillary plexus vessel density (%): 55.16 versus 52.45 versus 52.83, c) outer retinal flow area (%): 8.87 ± 1.91 versus 8.03 ± 1.88 versus 8.11 ± 1.93, d) choriocapillaris flow area (mm2): 20.95 ± 0.98 versus 19.82 ± 1.20 a versus 19.62 ± 0.95, and e) sub-foveal choroidal thickness (µm): 295.06 ± 5.45 versus 277.08 ± 5.33 versus 260.71 ± 58.61. No significant differences in any OCT and OCTA parameters were found between consecutive measurements in decaffeinated coffee consumers (p > 0.05).ConclusionsCaffeinated coffee appears to transiently reduce parafoveal vessel density, capillary flow area, and sub-foveal choroidal thickness. Lack of these microvascular morphological changes in decaffeinated coffee suggests a potential caffeine-induced vasoconstrictive effect.  相似文献
