A need for academic remediation in prelicensure nursing education has presented over the past several years. Presently, it remains unclear as how best to provide effective remediation for underperforming nursing students. This article presents a concept analysis of remediation within the context of nursing education using the Walker and Avant method. Developing a standardized definition and implementation strategies for remediation in nursing education will allow nurse educators to meet the remediation needs of underperforming students.  相似文献

PURPOSE: The purpose of this analysis was to explore the concept of nurse competence. DATA SOURCES: Data sources include EBSCOhost, Gale PowerSearch, ProQuest, PubMed Medline, Google Scholar, and Online Journal of Issues in Nursing. DATA SYNTHESIS: This paper utilizes Rodgers' evolutionary method to analyze the concept of nurse competence. CONCLUSION: Antecedents to nurse competence include personal and external motivations. Attributes include integrating knowledge into practice, experience, critical thinking, proficient skills, caring, communication, environment, motivation, and professionalism. Consequences include confidence, safe practice, and holistic care. Implications for nursing responsibility regarding defining nurse competence and ensuring nurse competence need to be identified. More research is needed to determine the best evaluation methods for the different facets of nurse competence.  相似文献

TOPIC. The term nursing care is widely used throughout nursing and allied health literature; however, the meaning of the term is not clear. PURPOSE. The purpose of this analysis is to explore the essence of the term nursing care and to develop an operational definition of the concept. SOURCES OF INFORMATION. Using the Walker and Avant (2005 ) method, dictionaries, thesauruses, and current nursing literature are studied for meanings, usages, and attributes. Model, borderline, and contrary cases are also presented. CONCLUSIONS. Intended as a preliminary exploration of nursing care, this work serves as the foundation for further study of the concept.  相似文献

That nursing is a science and an art is commonly accepted. While much emphasis has been placed on the science in nursing, the art of nursing is less well-understood. A concept analysis using Rodgers' evolutionary perspective was conducted to examine the meaning of the art of nursing. Through the analysis, a definition emerged suggesting that the art of nursing is the intentional creative use of oneself, based upon skill and expertise, to transmit emotion and meaning to another. It is a process that is subjective and requires interpretation, sensitivity, imagination, and active participation.  相似文献

PURPOSE. This Conceptual Model for Nursing Information describes the core activities of nursing, the collection of information about these activities, and argues that these activities must be described using standardized nursing languages. DATA SOURCES. Relevant literature, both national and international, was reviewed and summarized. DATA SYNTHESIS. A maximum data set for nursing was developed. CONCLUSIONS. In the United Kingdom, a new and radical approach to the process of nursing is required; one that demonstrates that nursing is the decision‐making that takes place in all core activities of nursing. IMPLICATIONS FOR NURSING PRACTICE. Unless nurses have a clear view of what the profession requires from technological solutions for the recording of nursing activities, less than optimal solutions will be forced upon the profession.  相似文献

PURPOSE.  To analyze the concept of contamination and discuss the implications for nursing practice, research, and education.
DATA SOURCES.  Published research articles, official governmental publications, policy reports, and textbooks.
DATA SYNTHESIS.  Various attributes of contamination are described using the Walker and Avant method of concept analysis and include: (a) exposure to a contaminant, and (b) contaminant exists in a dose sufficient to cause adverse health effects. The major antecedents of contamination include the presence of a contaminant, dose, duration of exposure, route of exposure, and individual human differences. Major consequences of contamination include organ and systemic responses, and psychological, social, and economic effects.
CONCLUSIONS.  Contamination is an important concept and is essential to the discipline of nursing. The concept of contamination is separate from exposure. Precision in the use of diagnostic language describing contamination incidents will lead to greater accuracy in outcomes and interventions for individuals and groups experiencing overt or covert contamination resulting from accidental or intentional acts. Broad agreement on the definition, antecedents, and consequences of contamination will improve the likelihood of successful management of contamination events.
IMPLICATIONS.  The nursing profession makes an important contribution to the improvement of individual, community, and societal environmental health. Clarifying the concept of contamination is an important first step in building the nursing science that will lead to identifying sound nursing interventions.  相似文献

PURPOSE. This philosophical inquiry examined similarity using the concept analysis methodology by Walker and Avant (2005 ). DATA SOURCES. Data were obtained from Google, CINAHL, PsychINFO, and PubMed using keywords “similarity,”“concept analysis,” and “similarity concept analysis.” DATA SYNTHESIS. Various definitions, uses, and defining attributes of similarity were identified; model cases were presented along with antecedents, consequences, and empirical referents. CONCLUSIONS. The concept analysis of similarity identified five defining attributes, antecedents, consequences, and different ways to measure the concept. IMPLICATIONS FOR NURSING PRACTICE. Representing nursing care involves similarity and when applied can promote or enhance shared understanding.  相似文献

Remediation, in higher education, is a multifaceted concept used to describe student-focused activities aimed at achieving course-specific learning outcomes. Within academic programs of nursing, research data describe formal and informal methodologies used to provide remediation. Informal remediation activities are casual and thus not definable. A concept analysis of formal remediation provides a framework for defining the concept, developing measurable outcomes, and describing when to implement the intervention.  相似文献

Self-confidence is important for both students and professional nurses to possess. Because nursing practitioners must exude confidence, clarification of its meaning is necessary. Walker and Avant's (2005) eight-step method of concept analysis was used as the framework for this examination. As a result of the analysis, three defining attributes of self-confidence were realized: belief in positive achievements, persistence, and self-awareness. Nursing faculty must be cognizant of the phenomena that are prerequisite to self-confidence and promote them in nursing students. Achieving self-confidence will allow more autonomous practice to be built, ultimately benefiting those recipients of nursing care.  相似文献
